      It's a smart way to let people know or have a taste of what her Patreon channel has. I would probably have other patreon channels that I subscribe to but they don't give you any idea of the types of quality they offer so I don't bother subscribing.

    • @EmmaColbertArt
      @EmmaColbertArt  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes fixative does that. You don't really need it on Pastelmat anyway, the pastel sticks really well to that paper. Try reapplying your highlights again, you can bring it back from the darkness :-)

      Hi Gaynor, glad you're enjoying my 'Paint Alongs'. I try to keep these more simple so I can put them out for free on TH-cam, but I do colour code all my Patreon tutorials which takes me a lot of extra time. But those tutorials have the exact colour code popping up as I'm using it which is very useful. In these, instead I include the full colour list at the start and try to chat as I work. It means I can release more free content on TH-cam and keep the more in depth ones for my Patrons.

    Thanks for this Emma. I am trying out velour at the moment. My first went well on a light tone velour, my second, on black, went not so well. So watching you work on this light colour I can see how a light to mid tone is better. I can see a very light touch is also important. Much appreciated.

    • @EmmaColbertArt
      @EmmaColbertArt  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Elaine, I'm not a fan of the black paper. I've seen amazing work done on it and worked with it before. But it's too overpowering for the variety of tone I like to have in my work. I much prefer the effect of the lighter midtone papers.

    • @EmmaColbertArt
      @EmmaColbertArt  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I do blow a little dust off my work sometimes but not often needed. The surfaces I paint on don't produce a lot and I work with quite a light touch so never putting down a huge covering of pigment in one go. The sanded papers produce more dust. It's advisable not to blow the dust everywhere anyway, better to lift it up and tap the back.

    Hi Emma. I am new to pastel, starting doing landscapes and seascapes. I now would like to try to paint a snow leopard and was wondering -- if you start an animal that is light or white in color, what would be the first and second layers of color? I have watched you do animals before, but all of them have been dark in color, so I am clueless how to paint a lighter colored animal, such as a snow leopard. I also love the plastic containers you use for storing your pastels. May I ask? Where did you purchase them? I have not been able to find any in our area. Did you buy them on line? Thanks for your help.

    • @EmmaColbertArt
      @EmmaColbertArt  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Check out my newest timelapse of a lighter coloured white dog. This may help as I talk about colour too. You'll be surprised how dark you need to go even on white animals where it's in shadow. th-cam.com/video/CrHApd8ZI7A/w-d-xo.html
      The prym boxes I have either found on Ebay or a quick Google search. Unfortunately it depends what country you're in as to whether you can find them.
