As if I needed any more evidence that Korone is a true gamer
Yeah, that's an old school gamer, right there.
Well her pa really influenced her
No, she's a boomer
@@KABLAMMATS She is probably a millenial. I would guess early 30s.
@@markusburstrom3485 At what point does the boomer generation end and the millennial one begins? I’m still confused about that…
Towa: *witnesses the lost ancient art of blowing into a video game cartridge to get the dust out*
Towa: Funniest shit i seen fr
Towa: witnesses the lost ancient art of blowing
I remember the times... Then using paper and alcohol.
@iKilleas I used a airblower from a car wheel mini compressor 😂
The purpose of blowing is not to remove dust. The reason it works, is the metal contacts oxidize over time which degrades the electrical connection. When you blow you end up releasing moisture from your mouth into the contacts which temporarily increases the conductivity of the contacts. It's a bad long term solution, really need to clean the contacts with alcohol and make sure the insertion system of the console doesn't have worn / bent out of place pins which causes the poor contact in the first place.
Wait till she see the ancient of kicking the tv to work
I love that Korone's troubleshooting for any NES performance issues are just an automatic muscle memory response. Those gaming roots go to the very core in a way that cannot be denied.
dont forget the concussive maintenance on the tv and at times the console
@@gampie13hit the tv at 45 degrees

Me too, just depending on both devices and any cases
@@gampie13 It's the first step before the arduous process of moving the massive CRT far enough to try reseating the cables.
@@tokinosoda12thapostleofthe12 Don't forget to move the Antenna too.
It just dawned on me, that no children born these days, will ever know the power of blowing into a video game cartridge.
That and opening a game case to play something only to find the wrong game in there. Which proceeds you to playing a game of "where the hell do you belong!!"
Or accidentally plugging in the wrong way tri-color cable in the TV. You were lucky if the TV holes were color coded too. 🤣 God I hated that, cause I had to unplug everything otherwise the old cable TV didn't work watching regular television channels
@@claouslive Nah, that still happens, especially to my niece and nephew with their Switch cartridges. They'll bring a case over to our house, and end up having the wrong game in it, lol.
@@Xtoxinlolinecronomicon don't forget about the magical "antenna/coaxial switch"
@@claouslive Hahahaha true, true!
They had instructions to not blow on the cartridge back then BUT IT WORKED.
@@CartoonHangout BUT IT WORKED. Note the caps lol.

@@lancelnce Wtf? Copper absolutely does corrode.
@@gathenhielm9977 the Thing they put on cartridge pins does not corrode that's what I'm saying. Unless it's a pireted cartridge
@@lancelnce A quick google image search of "game cartridge corrosion" instantly proves you wrong.
Korone proving she's a true retro gamer by acknowledging that you shouldn't blow into the cartridge but doing it anyways.
Old habits die hard.
It can't be helped if it makes the games run through making blowing.
@@linusgustafsson2629 It _can_ be helped. Use Q-tips with a tiny bit of rubbing alcohol on them to clean the contacts.
On the NES specifically, it's not rare for some deformation to have happened on both the cartridge connectors and the cartridge slot connectors on the console itself, this can be fixed by carefully tweaking them back into proper shape, or in the worst of cases, replacing them entirely.
@@0neDoomedSpaceMarine : For the classic NES, some sort of replacement is most desirable. The actual connector is part of the problem, as the friction of cartridge insertion is too low to reliably remove the naturally building oxides- remember, Earth's oxygen is by nature a very slow fire, and that has it's costs.
Also, apparently the plastic of the connector degrades. Best to buckle down and prepare before it stops entirely.
@@absalomdraconis You don't usually need to replace the connectors entirely.
The major issue with the NES is that it has a really unconventional cartridge port which uses that tilting elevator setup, which works, but it's really easy to accidentally apply lateral leverage on the connectors, especially when you're a little kid who don't know that's a problem.
You can fix the vast majority of NES consoles with connection problems by cleaning the connectors, and then carefully reshaping the pins. After that, it's just a matter of being a bit more gentle and conscious with handling, and then maybe cleaning the contacts every few years or so.
There did also exist some kits which replaced the elevator mechanism itself with essentially a straight slot, but those were only produced in limited numbers I think. You also don't really need them.
The original Japanese Famicom had a conventional toploading slot, so this is virtually never a problem outside of North America and Western Europe, nor for any other console with a normal toploading slot (like the NES toploader). All you need to do there is occasionally clean the contacts.
Steps to fixing a cartridge:
1. Blow on the cartridge
2. Blow on the console
3. Turn the console upside down
4. balance it on the sides
5. replug cables
You have to do it in that order
You forgot the last resort:
- Use Q-tip and alcohol
My ps1 only read disks properly when it was upside down. Then it stopped reading disks altogether and I bought the slim version. But in this state it worked for almost 3 years.
@@ivd0s My friend's C64 wouldn't load games unless there was a blanket on top of the tape deck.
I don't remember 3 and 4
@@kylewoodowens4488 3 and 4 worked for CD consoles.
Towa is too young to know the ritual of blowing on the cartridges to make them work.
She is in her mid 20s, is just that she always preferred playing on PC than having consoles for what she talked before holo.
@@TheRatedOniChannel I mean, Korone turns 40 this year so she does have more experience of the old rituals lol
or maybe she was not a gamer back then.
@@MikeHoney-qy6nlHer and Watame are the oldest followed by Botan I think.
@@MikeHoney-qy6nl It is pretty unlikely she's 40 but more closer to very late 20s to early 30s. I know about the stuff before the Korone character but I swear it's been all hearsay and nobody's been able to provide a clip. I say this because there is an older clip of Korone (in-character) saying she was still quite young when the PSP came out and her father playing it
Even I know to do the old cartridge blowing trick and I was born in '93 which was just at about the tail-end of cartridge use and transition to CDs
Hey, don't judge her Towa-sama! Doing that on cartridges works for everyone when the games are not working, you know?
The internet says it's a myth, but experience says otherwise.
@@remiremiremi111For sure. I can't count the number of times this worked on me. Just a bit of shaking and blowing air to remove "dust" works like a charm lmao.
Fun times.
yeah its weird, even the back of some carts literally tell you to not blow them, but 9 times out of 10 that little blow makes it work like factory new
Well the cartridge is dirty, you're just cleaning it "incorrectly" over time the saliva will eventually damage something in some time later, when? Who knows
When Towa went "EH??!" at the revelation that a system existed before the SNES, I felt the wrinkles form on my face.
I was binge watching Bae's and Biboo's zoomer moments but ofc, it happens in the JP side of things. It's amazing (and sad) that towa only just know the SNES (or Super Famicom) had a predecessor..
She could've just know from the games alone but never really knew where it was from. Not to give Towa any shade of anything, I like her too.. but yeah I'm turning to dust myself
There's videos out there of those canny Mr. Incredible getting older and older based on what's your first game in a franchise.
For Megaten/Persona, the player was older than the big bang before Shin Megami Tensei III gets mentioned
Towa: Korone, do the thing!

She blew in the cartridge twice and blew on the console slot once.
Then she lightly dropped the console on her carpet and then it worked.

These, and many more, are true trials that must be passed by one to become a true Gamer.
And Korone 100% has passed them all.
Stick drift is nothing compared to trying to play Atari games with that piece of shit joystick that would sometimes just not work in one direction....imagine trying to play Pacman, but you can't turn right, lol.

@@priestesslucy3299 it theoretically could be, but usually isn't. Especially on a game that's been in and out of a system in the last, like, year. Blowing on the cartridge was just glorified reseating of the cartridge pins.

This. I started watching Hololive in early 2020 thanks to Korone! I still remember all her legendary memes like my second favorite "Water in the fire?! Why?! Water in the fire?! WHY?! I notto understando", "small small turtle house" (basically both her English-only Super Mario Bros streams were goldmine of memes), "Eekum bokum", and my favorite "I'm die, thank you forever" from Calli-Korone collab about defusing bombs. Now, I cherish and adore FuwaMoco, so my JP oshi is Korone (unfortunately I do not know Japanese), but my EN oshi are FuwaMoco. I can't wait for the HoloCerberus collab!

Korone is so based.
While I don't miss all the problems cartridges had, I do miss a simpler time where some air was enough to seemingly fix most issues with our games.
I love how Korone is flexing her famicom at the end.
I adore the fact that, despite everyone using emulators for their old games, Korone still uses actual hardware from ancient times.
I'll never not have respect for this dog, she's so cool.

Towa-sama this is something we have been doing for a long time
First of all, Towa laughed so hard at Ollie's charged rifle joke. Second of all, she laughed so hard at Kaela's hilarious talk to ghost in Phasmophobia. And now, she laughed so hard at Korone blowing the cartridge

Yo that's pretty cool. They released a 20th anniversary cartridge, it even says 2017 on the start menu. It's on NSO, but if Korone wasn't a retro gamer, or this collectors item didn't exist, this fantastic moment never woulda happened ww
No matter what everyone says, if it works, it works 😂Its amazing that she's streaming gameplay from the classic console.
Hololive members aren't allowed to use emulators, so any game they play is on original hardware. (Throwback to that stream where Miko brought her playstation but it was a PS4 instead of the PS3 they needed, so she ran out last second to buy a PS3.) I'm guessing Korone has a huge console collection!
If you have the money and brains it's not very hard, can do it much better quality than korones cheap composite to HDMI box, using a retrotink, ossc or framemeister.
@@Zanpaa I think she does, there was a stream where she talked about it, I think the xboxes are some of the consoles she wanted but couldn't get, but she's played on famicom, super famicom, N64 (banjo), playstation (digimon world), playstation 2, playstation 3 (siren), playstation 4 (crash bandicoot 4) , sega saturn (dropped it on a getting over it stream 😅).

I mean there was the 3ds which used the cartridge .. I still blew on the cartridge slot and the cartridge itself and it worked xD
One does not simply escspe their gaming roots.
They call them cassettes!
That's interesting
I think that was probably common in a lot of places, they were chunky plastic units you put into a machine hooked up to your TV to play, just like VHS tapes.
Some people would call them 'tapes' but we knew that was obviously wrong, because unlike VHS or 8-track there was clearly no reels of tape inside these cassettes.
Blowing into a game cart is a rite of passage.
Those two have such wonderful genuine laughs, and they are both prone to get into a loop laughing at each other's funny stuff. Like laughter oscillation, i love it :D

What you're *_actually_* supposed to do is use pressurized air or isopropyl alcohol to clean the contact points. Just a light dab will do. Spitting into the cartridge will corrode the contact points.
I'm glad that Korone and Towa played _Shockman Zero._ It's one of the better Japanese exclusives for the SNES.
We didn't have those easily back in the day 😂
Pretty impressed how much you were able to catch of Towa's short-of-breath speech.

Yeah, Towa's too young. She does not know the struggle. 🤣
She really shouldn't do that. It will add moisture to the cartridge metal contacts and corrode them.
The right thing to do is shaking it gently with the contact side down or using pressurized air to clean it.
Korone mentions that towards the end.
Yep, at the end of the clip she actually addressed that. She knows you aren't supposed to but it's become a habit.
Have you like watched the whole clip..?
