- This episode is the first time I hear Undertale in context (sort of) with that umbrella, going on a date with my favorite skeleton, Papyrus, and being chased into oblivion by undyne. Enjoy.

Marco, you can equip the armor you find/buy, there are some pieces that have abilities

Fun fact: the white dog you encounter everywhere represents the head developer of Undertale Toby Fox.
Another fun dog fact: If you try and phone Toriel with the dog in your inventory, you will know why she has stopped answering.

Watching Marco jammin to Snowdin is very entertaining. You really can't help but dance to most of the track
Another funny fact: after using Sans' telescope, you can see Frisk has been bamboozled with the old marker-stain-around-the-eye trick.
I like what you brought up about the tension brought on by the suddenly serious private conversation with sans. I never noticed before that he only puts an order in to get grillby out of earshot. Whatever happens with the ketchup, he always leaves his food untouched and tells you he wasn't hungry in the first place. It really comes off like he just didnt want anyone listening in when he brought up flowey.
To the monsters, looking up to where the sky should be and be reminded of the absence of stars makes you realize that the cave where they live is more of a prison than a home.

Every Undertale glitched speedrunner's heart just exploded
Hey Marco, it's time once again for me to continue my story about cool moments from my blind playthrough.
The statue and the umbrella hit me hard. The statue was clearly important at one point, and the fact that it had such a nostalgic-feeling song playing once you got it out of the rain made it more poignant. I remember taking a few moments to gather myself with my friends, and they all understood.
Right after that, you have the chase from Undyne, and then the sequence with the same song (albeit at its normal key) while someone has found you after you have fallen again.
All of this, and yet you still get the chuckles with the annoying dog.
I LOVE the Waterfall music. It's definitely in my top 5 for the game. It's like... deep and dramatic, but ethereal at the same time.
Real nice to live this through you again, Undertale is so dear and close to my heart and I love seeing others having fun with it, I love that you got the piano part, almost nobody does on their first (or well, second lmao) gameplay, your reaction was hilarious. Can't wait for next week!!
One thing about Dating Start! that is interesting to me is that it is (most likely unintentionally) very similar to Turnabout Sisters from the Ace Attorney series. Give both a listen side by side sometime if you're interested.
Actually, this is intentional! Toby is a known fan and I believe has officially said that this is where he drew inspo for all three of the date tracks
Fun additional fact: He said in an interview that the earliest versions of Susie from Deltarune were based on Maya Fey!

Loving it! Wonder if you would play Deltarune or OMORI after this... both games have great music and similar strengths in having well-developed characters to interact with, be warned that OMORI is quite a long game though.
quiet water is so important to me for the stupidest reason, it was always my alarm when i was like 11 and now as an adult started using it as an alarm again. it is literally the only alarm that doesnt scare the hell out of me HAHA

In this episode the best thing for me was waterfall.. I dunno, I feel so much pain and suffering in that piano.. just imagine: you and all the monsters are trapped underground, being unable to even see the stars. Everything you have here is "fake" stars, which are, according to one of the theories are just glowworms. Monsters come here to whisper their dream - to see a real sky some day.. this is so..oppressive..

Edit: when sans mentions the echo flowers, he's being real there. There's lore drops in the echo flowers, but you have to interact with the flower before making any other noise, like say, making a mouse squeak. Very interesting stuff If you look into it

Papyrus has dialogue for each area you are in whenever you call him on the phone. It is so delightful

Have you ever listened to the music of the Ace Attorney games? The music in the Papyrus date seems to have been inspired by it. I recommend checking out the songs "Turnabout Sisters" and "Pursuit ~ Cornered 2001" to get a sense of the musical similarity.
Yeah, If i remember well, some undertale music was inspired by some AA music, with is great!

OH, and additional Fun Fact as compensation: the presence of a dating sequence at all may be a leftover from an earlier plan where it seems you were supposed to date and potentially marry Mettaton (as mentioned in the original Kickstarter and some of the old dev notes on cut dialogue that Toby has posted)
This matters to literally nobody but CORRECTION to my Fun Fact: It seems Toby's notes actually indicate that all bosses except the final one were intended to be datable from very early in the planning stages, but things ultimately shook out so Papyrus was the only boss who got a proper one

I really think that you would love some music from Hunt: Showdown, it's unlike any other (almost). I would call our Rise Up Dead Man, and Sinner's Blues. A fun fact is the band is made up of devs of the game.
