Noraly, a policeman asked for your papers because in Russia, especially outside of cities, people drive motorcycles without any documents. They just don't have them and don't care.
Артем Чемадуров He asked for her passport first though. Traffic cops are greedy, useless and, thus, bored most of the time. So thats why they like to harass travelers. GIBDD should be gone!
Actually, road police in Russia doesn't need your passport. All they need are you driving licence, insurance and vehicle documents. And typically, they called these 3 things by "Documents". It's true for the road police only. Ride safe.
In Canada they would also ask to see your drivers license. It’s the first thing they ask for after you’re pulled over. Those police seemed friendly. Nice to see.
Я посмотрел видео со стороны итальянки и аж слезы навернулись, мы и правда гостеприимная нация, мы любим разговаривать, любим делиться опытом и рассказами.
usually distance to horizon is about 5 km. so almost any country is bigger than that, Russia is no exeption. but yeah. it feels so... vast here... for the lack of better word =)
For others that may drive in U.S.A for first time. You will always be asked for a drivers license if you are involved with a police traffic stop. I know some countries your license is not something you carry with you all the time. So get a certified copy or international license or whatever beforehand. Thank you "Itchy Boots" for your content. Love watching.

I’m just amazed by the friendliness of the people you came in contact with. It opened a totally new perspective for me on most, if not all of these countries you have visited so far in this series. Absolutely love your positive attitude Noraly.
It's great to see the pre-Revolution architecture in the towns you pass; it conjures up a dusty slower paced life. The space is extraordinary. Ride safe.
It's pretty common practice in Russia to ask for your drivers license, because there are plenty of folks who drive without one (they don't own one), as far as I know. The same's in the Baltic states (At least Lithuania and Latvia).
Well, this is bullshit of course.. Another stereotype. A person has either never been to Russia, or is deliberately spreading lies, like the Western media.
Love Russia. Friendliest overland country I've visited. Helps if you know some basic phrases. Hard language to learn tho. The policeman was flirting. 😁
Grandes extensiones en un país muy grande, bonitos paisajes, gracias Noraly cómo siempre va uno conociendo el mundo con el arduo trabajo de la embajadora del mundo
Even if police in Russia may seem stopping for no reason and talking to you casually, it's pretty serious quick background check. These police folk are trained in detecting counterfeit ids, behavioral patterns, to spot a threat. In Astrakhan region, there is heroin route from Afghanistan and weapons smuggled, so you can notice some of the police stations are heavily armored and have high-caliber machine guns although in most areas away from border there are no road checkpoints anymore. These days Astrakhan area is very safe though.
@@MrRenics Actually, during the Chechen Wars and the War in Dagestan, every patrol vehicle in the southern regions (Stavropol Krai, North Ossetia, Kalmykia, etc) had an AKM or an AK-74 with three spare magazines as standard issue equipment. Some patrol vehicles even had an RPG-18 too, and on some police stations there were watchtowers with PKM or in some cases NSV machine guns. Sure, an ordinary policeman from Moscow or SPB does not carry anything, but his service sidearm, but things are quite different in the southern part of Russia.
@@IGLArocknroll What are you treating me here, doctor? I myself worked in the police of the Russian Federation for 31 years, and I know all the intricacies of the service. Noraly, a policeman asked for your papers because in Russia, especially outside of cities, people drive motorcycles without any documents. They just don't have them and don't care.
Так а че насчет осаго я не понял? На мотоциклы тоже нужна страховка, у нее разве была?
Артем Чемадуров He asked for her passport first though. Traffic cops are greedy, useless and, thus, bored most of the time. So thats why they like to harass travelers. GIBDD should be gone!
Actually, road police in Russia doesn't need your passport. All they need are you driving licence, insurance and vehicle documents. And typically, they called these 3 things by "Documents". It's true for the road police only. Ride safe.

In the arsenal of the Russian police there are no such weapons as high-caliber machine guns, and there is no need to compose fables. 😀😀😀😀😀
- driving license
- documents on vehicle (bike)
- valid insurance
That's it. No passport needed.

2.Insurance paper
