This film garnered my respect for Gosling , he absolutely killed it

he played the guy everyone hates, but did it in such a way we were all kinda pulling for him.
You should check out Half Nelson. I think he could have easily earned the Oscar that year. It's my favorite movie but whatever it's good and he's good in it prove me wrong if you think I'm wrong boyyyyyyy

I loved his character. His portrayal was so hilarious and yet so gooood.

He actually finished second in that competition.
I thought that part was kind of hokey (but hilarious). I was in the industry working for investment advisory firm in 2008 doing I.T. work. Everyone, absolutely everyone knew who and what a Quant was.

Just wanted to add some background.
It is one of my favorite movies of all time, because I lived and worked through it. Another great one is "Margin Call" no way a comedy, but it was great with Jeremy Irons playing as John Tuld a character based on Dick Fuld from Lehman
@@charles-y2z6c thanks for reminding me, still need to see "Margin call". I remember watching "The wolf of Wall Street" and this film and thinking that I'm interested in the stock market world and might consider working there one day, although both films did everything to demystify the glamour and romanticism of this world.
They picked the right cast for this flick. 4 very intelligent men in their own right. There's no doubt it helped them properly interpret a complicated, technical plot, understand their character's plight and execute their performance.

Great scene and one of the actors breaks character almost laughing.

The best film about the economy and the nightmare of 2007. So well done and great acting by all. Loved Ryan's portrayal.
favorite line is when he's talking to Steve C. @ that industry expo, "I know you love to talk..."
Gosling f'ing nailed this role... Even for those who doesn't like him as a person/actor, this film is a must ...

Addition to making money is the one addition that is entirely understandable even if you don't have it.
Most of the beautiful things in life? Like it or not, they're propped up by money. And even the ones that are not are kept from going sour if you have money in the pocket. Money represents your ability to actually do anything in society.

amazing film, don't know how I haven't seen it earlier, almost no marketing campaign or probably obscured by other big franchise movies, but if you haven't seen it yet see it, if not purely for the awesome cinematic experience, watch it for the education
When you consider the all-star cast, it's amazing how little publicity the film received. But I 100%, if you have no interest in finance, you will still enjoy from the cinematic experience.
I have a few theories about the lack of publicity....

@@MacDaddy635 The first time I watched it, I had zero fucking clue what the heck they were on about but I enjoyed ever bit of it.
The second time I watched, I understood at least the gist of it (not least because I'm beginning to teach myself about financial markets and investing), if not all the particulars. Enjoyed it even more.
Criminally underrated movie.
This guy's acting was so good, I still hate him today.

"it's tipping the idea that this is already sort of in a subversive way happening again" - he had no idea that in about 5 years the american government would be printing 6 trillion dollars and only giving only $1,200 to each citizen. While citizens are happy to receive that amount they don't understand their share is actually closer to $18,000. So who does the rest go to?
Awesome can't wait for this movie....and he is still looking good at 35 y.o

The characters may have been walking a moral tightrope but the industry, the institutions, the government and the system have completely fallen off the cliff to the abyss of no moral.

I've watched the film six times. Such fine fine performances from all involved. I love it. The awful thing is I hate the screwballs who engineered the scheme and won. Outside of the film I want them locked up and for all their money to be given to the millions of people who lost out.
That would be the bankers, not any of the characters of the film.
The movie went out of their way to present the simple fact that the bubble happened due to a combination of greed and stupidity.
The characters just decided to just make a buck instead of getting fucked over by the system like every other American.

The screwballs who engineered the crisis were the turdmuffin bankers who doled out shitty loans and kept betting on financial instruments derived off those shitty loans.
These people? They merely profited off it post facto. But hey, if it has to happen, someone might as well profit off it because it would've happened one way or the other.
Doesn't make them "good" but doesn't make them "villains" either.

@@tiffles3890 None of the players really give a damn for anything except money. They were portrayed as morally concerned in the film, but in bios that does not really shine through. I am glad they won, but that doesn't mean I have to like them.

Unless you were living the last 15 years under a rock, you already knew there was a bubble on the house marketing and that the banks got saved by the government.
