I think the reason the movie didn't break box office and stuff was because it follows a somewhat overused narrative trope. "Lone wolf and a cub", "Leon", "Mandalorian" are three primary examples that come off the top of my head. That being said, I like this trope. But at the time critics didn't like it that particular trope much.
Perfectly cut jokes lmao. On a serious note, I really enjoy hearing you talk about the morals of the story of each of the anime you make a video on. It says a lot without spoiling anything. The feeling we're left with after watching a piece of media is really what sticks with us in the end after all. I may not remember the details of every anime but I will remember the feelings it gave me.
fun fact the fight choreographer for cowboy bebop also choreographed this movie as well that's why the fights are so smooth and flowing, but seriously watch this movie it's one of my all time favorites
I just finished watching kotaro lives alone on Netflix and he was a orphan also (with a heart of gold of course)... definitely gotta check this out now.
That was an awesome review. Definitely will have to watch. Also, the cutting away from punchlines was hilarious. Maybe one of these days, you’ll find out whether or not you are g
Even though I already knew about this film, I want to say that you pay a very nice tribute to it. If you're looking for films (not necessarily animated films) in the same style, you should really check out the "Lone Wolf and Cub" film series (I think someone already mentioned it) as well as "The Man from Nowhere" (which must have inspired the John Wick license). I also think that the relationship between Nanashi and Kotaro has something very Kitano, that is to say that it is poetic and sweet while being brutal and dangerous at the same time (by the way, it reminds me a lot of the one between Kikujiro and Masao from the movie "Kikujiro"). Obviously, you'll have understood, you should really think about watching all his works if you haven't already. Anyway, I love your channel, I'd love to see a video dedicated to "Redline" (the anime of course!) "Maquia: When the Promised Flower Blooms", "Mind Game" without forgetting "Memories". I almost forgot, I discovered your channel thanks to your video on "Drive" by Winding Refn which was recommended to me. If you want to see similar films other than the ones you mentioned in this one, check out Melville's "Le Samouraï" (which must have inspired him) and Kim Jee-won's "A Bittersweet Life", I think you'll enjoy it. 😉
I love this movie so much, and i recommend you to watch Dororo (i only watched 2019 version) It's a story that inspired so many movies that so many people love including this one.

Nice review. I’ll check it out. Have you ever watched kids on the slope? One of the most underrated or maybe under appreciated animes in my opinion.
As a tween, I was traumatized by Ninja Scroll, so Im getting from you this is much less disturbing...
