Have been using HA at least 7 years. It has been great. Yeah there are some thing that changed over time, but the main thing you should setup after installing is automated backups to your NAS or Google Drive.
Thanks!! I wouldn't have thought about it except that I was looking through the built-in integrations and saw Roku. Was honestly shocked by how many triggers/entities it had :)
Some day I will go into the home assistant world... then I will watch this video... again. Cool stuff man! Keep up the good work. Also; give yourself some credit man! we are probably not as smart as you!
HomeAssistant has changed a lot in the last year, and even though I've been running it for 3 years, I only started actively using it last year, and I can say I only had to dive into YAML once, and it was just editing a single line.
Setup HA on a ThinkCentre tiny ( I5 /16gb ram) since it was cheaper than a Pi. Used Linux Mint USB boot since it installed Etcher easily and installed HA from the URL. Have my Bambu & Prusa connected to it along with lights, sensors, and switches. Power use is really low running on a power brick and its convenient having everything easily controllable from from a single UI.
I really like your videos; you definitely deserve more views. Could you please make a video where you run a VM with Home Assistant in OMV? That would really help me a lot.
Thanks for your comment. I'm not sure if I *can* make that video. Currently this video is bombing. The views are about as bad as could be compared to my other videos recently. I'm going to give it a day to see what happens before I make a decision one way or the other.
Very cool! Is there a way to load balance appliances...such as having a power relay inline with the compressor power feed on fridges/freezers so the compressors don't come on and run at the same time (increasing power usage) I have 3 deep freezers and 2 fridge/freezer combos (we can and buy our meet a cow at a time, it's like ~$.80 a pound that way!), in order to stagger the run times to keep KW draw lower and have a lower power bill...does home assistant allow this type of if one is cooling, the others will stay off, and as soon as it is cool, another one will come on, keeping from having multiple power hungry electric motors from running at the same time (300-500~watts each compressor) Such a great intro/tutorial!!!! Keep em coming!!!!
I think there should be a relatively easy way to do what you're talking about (if I'm understanding correctly). You should be able to get smart thermometers and power plugs that are HA compatible and then set up routines or whatever that say are like, "if the temp of this freezer is below X for a certain time, then turn off the smart plug". then, on the other end of things, create a routine that is "if the temp of the freezer is above X for certain time, turn the plug on". That said, the compressors in the devices should be doing this automatically. If they're not, though, the above might be a good workaround.
@@DBTechYT Yes...but think of it as time balancing the load...all of them aren't running at the same time...but "A" will run and cool, then "B" or "C" can run to cool....but not "A" "B" and "C" at the same time...load balancing but not by legs of the circuits...but the time the circuits are being used th-cam.com/video/tJ3PTKHm-1s/w-d-xo.html
I am really interested in home automation, but didn't really want google or amazon to know every time I went to the bathroom, so I haven't delved into echos or google nest or any of their ilk. But having control locally is wetting my appetite. As soon as I work out how to create my home lab I am jumping in. Thanks for your tutorials.
Hey DB question for are you planning or able to do some universal remote that work with home assistant and Google home reviews or if your able to get all 4 smart home eco systems and do reviews with all of them The main reason why i'm asking how about you doing smart home remote controls for stuff like Tvs is i know there are a bunch of people wanting to replace the Logitech Harmony hubs and systems sense there isn't anymore support from Logitech This has been a idea to do for a while but sense i don't have the equipment to do youtube at the moment i thought why not see if you would try doings it
I've wondered the same thing about the views on the last video. The first video got 10k views. The second video got 5k views. The third video got 2k views. I have to mix things up from time to time to keep the channel moving forward. I may come back to OMV at some point in the near future, but I literally can't afford to make videos that don't get views.
@@DBTechYT Hi, I think the views are down because most people want to see how to set up shares, create users, set up permissions for each user, how to back up, set up JellyFin and stuff like that. Like the videos in your Raspberry Pi Homelab playlist. You have no idea how many times I've come back to them for reference. I think doing videos like, for ex, how to set up OMV7 so that even if your drive dies, you won't lose the install. I think such titles/video ideas will bring in more views.
Perfect scope, pace, level and everything. Thanks. Keep up the good work
Thank you so much!! I really enjoyed making this video :)

Finally I can change from Homeseer. Thank you for sharing.
Happy to help!

Another good video.
Glad you enjoyed it
@@DBTechYT I allways enjoy your videos.😊 I hope you will come to the integration and setting up of the mobile app, that would be helpfull.

nice
Mine is running on a Pi 4

Really cool! I'm working on how to get notifications of my window / door sensors with the sensor name in the message.
I like the implications for an easy home theater set-up in my reality where I have the means to make one lol
