This early season series was really the catalyst for the Mets to go on the season long rampage they did in the NL East in 1986. A 4 game sweep of the defending division Champions
Exactly. I remember this series vividly. One of my favorite 1986 memories. With the Cards being their strongest competition it felt like they clinched the division by the end of this sweep.
@@brandonbetts7133 The first game of the series the Mets were down 4-2 w 2 out in the top of the 9th and Howard Johnson hit a game tying HR off Worrell. They later won it in extra innings and that r ally was a huge game, maybe the biggest of the regular season that year. HoJo OWNED Worrell, always homered off him and Whitey Herzog always would check Johnson’s bat for cork.
I was serving aboard a submarine in the mid-80s, missed a lot of games. This was one of them. Bigtime Mets fan. Thank you for posting. Dirty pool by Ozzie, btw; who'se he think he is, Ty Cobb?
Mike Heath's gesture was not to the official scorer. The scorer sits up in the press box (And Heath never looks up, he looks towards the Cards dugout). More than likely his teammates were probably giving him guff for missing the popup and that is who he was gesturing to.
What would have happened, if Jim Lampley and Drew Goodman were to announce NBC's Game of the Week or you might say the Chicago Cubs take on MLB Sacramento team?
Damn!.. this intro screams my childhood, simpler times.
Dramatic ending to this game. Love 86 Mets! Thanks for posting.

They had to purposely put that on tv he had that finger held up long enough
Does anyone know what happened to Jeff Lathi that ended his career at this point?
Wow Sid!! What a killer.
31:25 that moment when you realize Clark had no clue how to play first
Did we sweep this series?
Wasn't the weather really hot for this game?
High of 88, which I guess is hot for April. You can see people in the stands with sleeveless shirts and some guys with no shirts at all.
Whoa, that's quite the middle finger from the Cardinals catcher! 40:42
Just notice that lol
as a young Cubs fan, I hated these 2 teams so much. Now as s middle aged man, I still don't like them

Why might we say that?
