i have no idea other than straight up fear how anyone would buy that she killed those women. Her mom died when she was a child. Who thought she hung her mother? What relationship would she had with the random women that we're hung that her father wouldn't have a more obvious reationship. I needed more examples of Carmine's influence to buy that people instantly believed she had anything to do with those murders.
Episode 4 could serve as a standalone episode. Milotti as Sophia Falcone showed a realistic portrayal of character changing in one episode than the majority of entire TV series. She deserves the Emmy.
Have to agree with you. I recently rewatched last of us, and it's great. Some stellar episodes. But I felt it was missing something. I was a bit let down with some major moments from the games that didn't fully come off for me. But Penguin has just been brilliant every episode and had me hooked for every moment
Joker is always winning because he's still number one. And you must remember that the same joker that flopped. He broke many records in his first flims portrayal of the character. Joaquin Phoenix is only second to heath ledgers joker! But it's no shock that the penguin is currently a head, the show is the best show on television at the moment with no competition!
This also places Alberto's actions in episode 1 in perspective too. I.e., why he was disrespectful towards the Penguin. Cause of everything done that transpired
This episode makes Carmine Falcone the most despicable man in Gotham before his Death. The man not only Killed Thomas Wayne, but he took Renewal and held the entire city in his pocket. His wife most likely caught wind of it and his affair with another woman thus giving birth to Selina Kyle and he killed her as well as Selina’s mother. Then he was so depraved he framed his own daughter for murder and out her in Arkham for 10 years. Carmine deserved to die, because he made Monsters due to his own actions.
I’m amazed at the shows ability to almost shift in tone and genre every episode whilst still building on the last and maintains an overall aesthetic and vibe. The perspective switches between Oswald, Vic and Sophia make it feel so different when we see the same events and city in the eyes of a different person. We also got to see a really earnest and sad depiction of a ‘one bad day’ scenario that so many Batman villians are famous for with Sophia in a way that felt real. Honestly masterfully done TV

Sofia has a pretty classic Batman villain origin. Half of Batman's villains only became villains because they were screwed over by someone else. Look at Batman: TAS. When Matt Hagen was introduced, he was impersonating rich businessmen to backmail them, but then it's revealed that he was in an accident that disfigured him so he became addicted to a face cream that can restore his normal appearance and then the maker of the cream used it to force him to impersonate people and get blackmail material on them. Same with Mr. Freeze, when he appeared, he was a ruthless thief who left his own henchman to die, but then it turned out that he was using his employer's cryogenic equipment to save his sick wife but then his employer showed up to shut things down and caused an accident that made him unable to feel emotions or survive at above freezing temperatures.
I typically view flashback episodes in most shows as pointless filler. But I feel this one actually did a great job in filling in the blanks and answering questions that many viewers have been wondering about. While also introducing familiar characters which should become even more relevant as the season progresses. I was intrigued the entire time and never felt bored throughout. Collin Farrell will surely be up for many acting nominations when it's all said and done. But I also believe Cristin Milioti deserves to be in that conversation as well after that incredible performance.

WOW!!.. Side bar: beginning Nov 14th, we're getting more of Mark Strong as he portrays 'Emperor Javico Corrino' in "Dune: Prophecy", coincidentally also on Max (and Crave in Canada).
I thought that the end was more like Arya Stark killing the entire Frey family as revenge for the Red Wedding. Miliotti gave an Emmy worthy performance.

I’ve been locked in a mental asylum. Some of the patients would receive electric shock therapy, when they came back from their treatment it was like they were completely different people. Some of the most inhumane treatment I’ve ever seen.
The way Falcone murdered all those women in the show is the same way he tried to murder Catwoman in The Batman. It’s so seamless how all of it connects.
This episode is absolutely astounding, although Sofia is a terrifying criminal this episode genuinely made me feel sorry for her, she didn’t ask for any of this, she was a product of her father trying to cover up her mother’s murder

The scene where she 1st goes into Arkham and gets showered, scraped, etc. Was so troubling. And thats what good art does. It makes you react. It wasnt gratuitous or over the top, but it was scary. And the actor who playes Sophia is friggin fantastic. She doesnt do, what I feel alot of actors do in these shows, she doesnt over act. I thought Magpie overacted a tad bit. But even when they gave her that fork and forced her to fight, she acted it so damn well. She better win an emmy for this role, cuz she is the best I've seen on TV in a long time.
I've wondered myself how many people could pick up on what I'm noticing. She is a very self-aware actress. Every little nuance, movement and expression is very well thought out. I don't actually think I've seen an actress give a performance like this. With Colin, I have Heath Ledger as a comparison but this is something completely different. It was like she went through the entire kaleidoscope of the female soul in this one performance.
Cristin Milioti got me to fall in love with her as Tracy in How I met Your mother, but she shines here in this series, and I'm glad she's getting a chance to stretch her acting legs.

Selina is several years younger than Sofia, so what if Carmine killed his wife after she found out about the affair with Selina's mother and perhaps the pregnancy as well(the timeline works)? And don't forget that he also killed both Selina's mom and her friend. This guy was using his position as a powerful mob boss to hide his other identity as one of Gotham's most prolific serial killers. Imagine John Gotti and Ted Bundy as the same dude
The Penguin is already one of my top three favorite shows of the year. It will most likely be going up against Superman and Lois and The Lincoln Lawyer.

As great as this episode was, I still expect Sofia not to make it out alive by the end of this season. There can only be one crime boss left, and it'll be the Penguin as expected. Not to say others won't show up later on, maybe with Batman 2 or after, Black Mask comes to mind, if they want to keep this gang/crime style thing going. A Penguin s2 with him vs Black Mask would be interesting.
Spoiler Warning: My minor issue with this episode is that Sofia telegraphs the fuck out of her plan to kill everyone at the dinner table by coming in and disrupting everything. Like I'm no psychiatrist but if the unstable woman who had just spent 10 years in an Asylum whom I framed and am ousting out of her share of the family empire came into my dinner party, interrupted me and ominously said she was ready for "a fresh start" I think I'd have one of my many bodyguards escort her to her room and make sure she goes nowhere near the furnace. I get and appreciate that we are being made to see Sofia's perspective and root for her and see how Oz fucked her over and killed her bro.. and I am 90% there... but part of why we love Oz is he always outfoxes everyone. Sofia's episode has to at least be as clever as Penguin Ep. 1, because that was Oz's intro. This felt more like her taking advantage of arrogant stupidity and just waltzing around killing everyone with seemingly no resistance and I prefer when antagonists aren't so dumb they're borderline suicidal. If Sofia had actually pretended to be a cowed and subservient member of the family (a little girl again) instead of showing how little she gave a fuck at that point, I think maybe I would buy that they didn't see it coming. It's just a little hard for me to buy that this was allowed to happen what with all the armed guards around.
Agatha and penguin are two different kinds of tones and I agree that penguin is better but agatha all along is good so far hopefully it doesn’t fumble towards the end

Episode 2 was a bit of a slog in my opinion but 1 & 4 are A+ story and acting. Unlike TLOU, characters in the Penguin behave like actual people.

20 minutes watching Joker 2 felt like one hour. 1 hour watching Penguin felt like 20 minutes.

My minor issue with this episode is that Sofia telegraphs the fuck out of her plan to kill everyone at the dinner table by coming in and disrupting everything. Like I'm no psychiatrist but if the unstable woman who had just spent 10 years in an Asylum whom I framed and am ousting out of her share of the family empire came into my dinner party, interrupted me and ominously said she was ready for "a fresh start" I think I'd have one of my many bodyguards escort her to her room and make sure she goes nowhere near the furnace.
I get and appreciate that we are being made to see Sofia's perspective and root for her and see how Oz fucked her over and killed her bro.. and I am 90% there... but part of why we love Oz is he always outfoxes everyone. Sofia's episode has to at least be as clever as Penguin Ep. 1, because that was Oz's intro. This felt more like her taking advantage of arrogant stupidity and just waltzing around killing everyone with seemingly no resistance and I prefer when antagonists aren't so dumb they're borderline suicidal.
If Sofia had actually pretended to be a cowed and subservient member of the family (a little girl again) instead of showing how little she gave a fuck at that point, I think maybe I would buy that they didn't see it coming. It's just a little hard for me to buy that this was allowed to happen what with all the armed guards around.
The Batman ruined the “twist”. We already knew her dad was the killer.
This episode makes me want that Arkham series so bad. Not 100% sure if its fully cancelled or being reworked.
This Could have been a better depiction of Joker's origin than the movie!
I like house of the dragon. But The Penguin is much better.

Agatha and penguin are two different kinds of tones and I agree that penguin is better but agatha all along is good so far hopefully it doesn’t fumble towards the end
@@daydreaminavenue some of the humor in Agatha falls flat for me. The identity of Billy was the worst kept secret. The 1st 4 episodes of Agatha was good ep.5 was a downer for me. 25 minutes was BS for an episode
Agatha is a safe kids show with zero stakes and characters that we don’t care about
@@jool4867 i will agree it is a safe show & the stakes only affect the characters that are left lol. The grand scheme of the show has also not been revealed yet especially for the magically world of the MCU

The backstory of Sofia was really intense. Especially when she got electrocuted

If milloti doesn't get nominated I'm gonna riot. I see Sofia more of a survivor than a killer by instnct. She's not a predator most killers are. She had no choice living in that environment than adapt. Only Afredo visiting her? F her family.
I found it chessy how she killed the family other than that this episode was fucking incredible
How would you take out the entire family keep the kids safe and leave the one person you actually need alive all in one clean sweep...
