    FINALLY! Someone who can get to the point AND knows WTF he's on about! THANK YOU! Much frustration trying to turn my MS into a KDP paperback. Grrr. Glad for your expertise.

    Dude,... I have been living in a personal state of KDP torture. You explained the first thing vexing me. Why wouldn't the cover PDF load. It would not load because you have to have the interior information uploaded first. That was just the first point of incredible frustration that melted away with your explanations. Thankyou so much. Your voice is a pleasure to hear as aversed to some squeeky fifty mile an hour gibberish that some of these girls have. Following their instructions is akin to an exercise in futility. Thankyou once again. Tony Wylder

    Awesome post David. You covered most of the formatting topics and thanks for suggesting the fonts. This video will save us spending money on outsourcing formatting tasks.

    Thank you for all the valuable knowledge. I followed your tutorials and now my book looks great and almost ready to go. However, I have a question...I placed a page break on every page-is this necessarily wrong to do for ebooks? Or should I only have page breaks after each chapter? Will a page break on each page make the e-book look messy or cluttered or is this okay? Thanks again. I couldn't have gotten this far without you!!!

    • @DVSPress
      @DVSPress  3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Yes you want to remove all page breaks besides those that are between things like chapters.

    David, are you familiar with LaTeX at all? I’ve been using it to write/format my novels and short stories, and the visual output it gives you is incredibly satisfying.

    Hi David. Copied my whole book from normal word doc to an Amazon template and it splits my paragraphs in a weird form. When I click backspace to bring them together it simple jumps to other page and loses the formation. Have tried everything and the only thing that works is copying page by page. Any suggestions?
    Amazing video!! Great tips and content

    will a page border design in word throw of the look of my ebook format?

    Your videos are great. Thank you. I am starting from scratch and have two questions. If I use fonts like Times and Helvetica do I have to buy them? Can you give more names of free fonts? Does the header on Chapter Number page appear by default or does it have to be manipulated?

    • @DVSPress
      @DVSPress  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Times you do not need to buy; header and footer fields are not shown by default; you must put something there.
      A very good free font for books is EB Garamond.

      @@DVSPress Word has given me problems with me saving my manuscript and then when I want to go back and continue writing the computer doesn't let me. It will give me an error message that says that the named file either does not exist or has been removed. Forcing me to click on the remove from recents button, therefore losing all of my work in the process. What can I write my book in instead where I hopefully, should never have this problem come up ever again?

  • @MatildaRabbit

    I think there’s an option built into word to save as a pdf with no add-ins. That’s how I do it.

      Won't properly imbed your font in most cases. Should be fine for times new roman

    So is Times New Roman a free commercial font where I can use it to print on KDP or would I have to buy a license to use it ?

    What was Microsoft thinking when they came up with 8 points as the default space value anyway ? Why would you _ever_ want that ?

    I have literally lost myself and my manuscript in a word wormhole. It kept saying "cannot save, please rename" Now I have 14 versions of the same story. It keeps nagging about adding pics needing to be 'embedded." I want to run away now.

      Google docs is the same things as Word. Maybe you can try that!

    I'm sorry, but you just zoomed through the page number and header area. I've been having such a difficult time trying to figure out section breaks for each chapter. I can't find one tutorial that can guide people through step-by-step and trouble-shooting instructions as to how to do this without difficulty. Your formatting technique seems good, but it zoomed right on through it and totally confused me. I'm not tech-savvy, as you can probably tell, so if you have a video on this area designated specifically for section breaks for headers and footers, with the ability to remove them from chapter heading pages, that would be awesome.

    How about Helvetica?

    • @DVSPress
      @DVSPress  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      You can use it for chapter headings but there's probably a better choice.
      Never use it as a body font, ever.
