@@52BuickBoi Lou Diamond Phillips' character here is very different from his Ritchie Valens in La Bamba, aside from them both coming from poor Hispanic backgrounds
This powerful scene shows when one is cutting ties with a group in order to become independent. I like to see this scene more like angel going through a mature phase and deciding for once to go his own way, mission accomplished!
It may have seemed like a random act of disobedience, but Angel was straight up pissed for being accused of cheating. This showed him starting to become nihilistic, like no amount of work or dedication would ever be enough, or even be believed. Might as well fuck with some cops, because you're stuck.
the way i see this is angel is making an analogy on his life as a gang member using the star dialog. they burned out a long time ago. as if hes telling his friend hes already tired of the gang life. maybe im over analyzing things loll
I think it's more an analogy for his frustration on the tests being questioned. As if life's not gonna give him a shot at being successful and gave up on him because it decided he wasn't worthy.
@@seanthomas3432 my coworker went to Rome, Italy for a week back in 2019 and said it’s dirtier than L.A. He was surprised with the amount of litter out there
Angel made the smartest decision. To walk away like that. I did the same thing. And never turned back. And living for me and Jesus Christ. I live happily ever after. 🙏🙏🙏🙏💯
This scene is a lot more then I realized now watching it as an adult. So Angels acting out because the school thought that him and other students cheated on the exam, that he had actually worked really hard to pass. Probably feeling let down that he tried to do the right thing and yet again the mindset of “it wasn’t worth it”
My brother's friend did the same thing while my brother was driving home from a bar. His "friend" started riding out the window and got my brother pulled over by the police. My brother ended up getting a D.U.I .
I appreciate the nicely placed big piece of cardboad on the ground so Angel can fall on it and not get his clothes dirty, which is vital as every scene is shot several times, so it would be a pain in the the ass to clean the clothes each time. Cardboard gets best Supporting Actor.
The lack of knowledge Angel's best friend has, and worse, his inability to listen to what he's been told about the universe, is just a way to show the audience how much Angel's life is going to waste if he's forced to stay in the hood with such uneducated, close-minded people. Angel won't grow and his friends aren't helping. The lashing out at cops just underscores the futility of hope when you try your best but the much larger system will find a way to knock you back down. Angel walking off was him frustrated with the whole situation.
The Sun is 93 million miles away, light travels at a rate of 186,000 miles per second. That's means it takes sunlight 8 and 1/3 minutes to get to us. So yeah I have no idea where he is getting 1000 years from. This guy needs to stay in school and pay attention.
The sun is 8 light minutes away from Earth. The closest star other than the sun is Proxima Centauri is 4.26 light years away. It has a neighbor called Alpha Centauri, which is the closest naked eye star in the night sky at 4.36 light years. The average distance of the top 300 brightest stars as we see them in the night sky is about 350 light-years, so 1000 light-years as a distance to naked eye stars is not that uncommon. The farthest naked eye star is about 16,000 light years away. The idea that the stars could've already ceased to shine is only true for a select-few stars. Astrophysicists have a good idea of how much time stars spend on the main sequence period of their lifetime, and most of the stars are most likely still on their main sequence if you were to teleport faster than light to see them in their present state. It is very few stars where astrophysicists predict that the star may have already ceased its main sequence period, or met its final stage of existing as a star, with Betelgeuse being a notable example. Betelgeuse is a geriatric star that has already exploded from its main sequence size to the red supergiant we see today. For all we know, it could've already gone supernova, and the supernova light may be already on its way to us. You can see an artist's conception of what this would look like in our sky, which we may even see in our lifetime.
"This guy needs to stay in school and pay attention" I pictured you pointing to yourself when you said that 😄. He's talking about stars. Most of the stars in the sky are over 1,000 light years away, meaning all of that starlight took over a thousand years to get here.
I'm glad he walked away he really cares about his future.
