I lost 15 pounds in a month drinking yerba mate everyday. Im able to workout hard for 2 hours. Im less hungry and do not crave junk, I think more clearly and no longer have constipation issues. I swear by this stuff!
Sara this stuff is amazing, I understand what you mean!! It's like some miracle drink that somehow people do not even promote as if it's normal for them but when you lack the vitamins and minerals all of a sudden your body starts functioning correctly!
I'm a shift worker, and I'm always looking for a new way to get a caffeine buzz. I heard mate is pretty carinated, so I ordered a bag of mate on eBay. I didn't know what to do with it, so I went to find a TH-cam video. As I was watching your video, I realized it was you that I ordered my mate from! I'm going to go give this a try now. Thanks for the mate and the video!
Mate changed my life. It restored my brain back to normal. I Finally feel like I can connect with people and partake in social events without any anxiety.
I’ve been drinking Yerba tea for over 10 years and each time I drink it I feel uplifted, calm, clear headed, confidence and have mental clarity. I LOVE this tea. Please be aware that it’s an acquired taste if it’s your first time, so I suggest adding a teaspoon of honey to combat the bitter taste. Oh yeh, I simply use a cafetiere to filter it. Enjoy!
this type of mate that you are preaparing is a variety called mate cocido (coocked mate) we give it to the kids with sugar and milk it is delicious! you can prepare it with coffee too if you want. Greetings from Argentina
@@montyblum5922 actually the cancer risks are related to yerba mate but not for the infusion by it self, but due to the temperature of the water. When you sip a beverage through a Straw (bombilla) you drink it faster, and when you are used to the temperature you are vulnerable to burn your stomach, and that's when you have more risk of cancer
Right on. I'm a big fan of making 3-4 batches. Adding some agave nectar or maple syrup, pouring it into a big glass pitcher and put it in the 'fridge to drink the rest of the week.
Hi, drinking mate this way is also traditional in southamerica, it has a different name, its called "mate cocido".. and has a very interesting variation called "cocido quemado" where you burn a little bit of brown sugar and yerba before putting hot water in it, the flavor is much stronger in "cocido quemado".
Thank you for this Video! My husband and I are Truck Drivers and I really wanted to find an easier way to make Mate. I Love mate and drank it everyday for years. My husband has never but, has agreed to start drinking it with me.So, I plan to serve him his with some organic honey 🍯. We own a similar French press , I'm very excited to try this. 😊😊😊
In hot weather, I like to steep it over night when it cools down by placing it in the fridge for Superman Style Mate! I offer my clients this amazing alternative to coffee which gives more of a slow steady release of caffeine rather than the nervousness and opiate like extreme sleepy effect some receive from coffee.
Hey, Dave, gracias, mi amigo. Because of your enthusiasm about yerba mate, I started drinking it about a year ago and now, I will never go a day without a nice cup of mate. The comments section of youtube isn't big enough to list the great things this "tea" does for me. My health has completely changed for the better. All the different brands and concoctions and ways to brew this stuff make it an absolute joy. Keep spreading the word. The sad part is how little our human brothers and sisters in certain countries know about yerba mate. Everyone in the world should drink it, every day. If they did, it would put hospitals out of business and cancer would be a thing of the past. (And your Mission variety is one of my favorites, dude. An excellent yerba mate.)
Truly appreciated those kind words, my friend! Thanks so much. Our Mission to spread mate has never been more important than now. Here's a link to our little mate group you may enjoy t.me/circleofdrink
I agree entirely with you , I've been drinking Yerba Matè for 4 years now , here in the U.K. ! I often drink my Matè with Rooibos & Melissa , very potent plants too 😋 Also , Dave , I have a lot of Gratitude and Respect for you too , as I searched the internet for Yerba Matè 4 years ago and I was basically led by your information & teachings online. I drink today almost daily and it helped myself cut alcohol out quiet dramatically, blessings to you Brother 💜
@@Twit.Tw00 Good to hear, Don. I'm still drinking it, too. I've not tried Yerba with Rooibos but now that you mention it, I think I'll try it. Rooibos is another favorite of mine. Interesting comment about alcohol because I feel the same way. I quit alcohol completely and the Yerba helped me to not have "withdrawal" symptoms, which is another benefit that's unexpected. Great stuff!
Try to drink it the traditional way (mate & bombilla), and its great to hear the benefits about mate, but I'm unsure about the cancer part, drinking too hot mate can put you at risk of intestinal cancer!!. Greetings!.
This is not the traditional way but I find a very effective way of extracting. I like to use this way to sometimes my Yerba. I do notice that it gives me that wellbeing and calm feeling right away when I use the French press. Thank you 🙏
With coffee, when you finish pressing it, you are best to decant all of it immediately to minimize bitterness as the hot water continues to act on the plant matter after pressing, removing excessive tannins from the grounds. Albeit slightly less so, this seems to be true to my palate with Yerba Mate as well. Just another consideration to anyone French pressing it. :-)
Thanks so much this helped me out a lot. I tried a commercial bottled yerba mate tea and I was so impressed at my level of alertness and energy that I bought myself a loose lease version of it. Making it in the french press was really nice and easy for me to do.
Thank you for this video. I ordered Mate for the health benefits. But I was ignorant about the history and the ritual of making it. After watching several videos, I was afraid that I would mess up with the gourd and my expensive Yerba Mate order would be a waste of money. I came across this video, and I can do this! I have to purchase a French press, but I can do this.
Just drinking my first ever cup of Yerba Mate and I love it! Thank you so much for this video, I will be brewing this way and taking it with me in a thermos to work now.
I could not find my thermometre, so I poured boiling water into a beaker about 3/4 full then topped it up with filtered tap water. I am so impressed, the flavour was lovely and mellow. I am a true convert! Now to tell all my friends.
What you are doing, in Uruguay we call, mate cocido. And the old way to do it (my mom style), she would warm up water, as you said, without boiling, to the temperature of drinking it, she would turn of the fire, add the yerba mate, mix it until it soaked in and then drain it with a colander and a very thin piece of cloth, so no yerba goes thru. After that she would add some sugar and put it in the fridge to cool off. She would serve it with some ice, and use is as a fresh drink, we were kids and used to drink it all the time!
Wondering how many times you'd reuse the Yerba Mate using the french press method? I have not tried Yerba Mate and want to give it a try and have a french press, I like the fact that it can be reused so many times with the traditional method.
I use a teapot with a fine filter. Seep for 5 mins. Then decant to flask to keep at the perfect temperature ❤. Bonus it’s easier to clean than the traditional method.
Thanks for the video. I just purchased this tea from Circle of Drink from eBay and never had it before. Thought it was just tea. When reading the label I realized it was different and found this video on my research. It arrived with a nice note and fast, thank you.
That is call "mate cocido". The method is valid. One trick you also can try. Boil water 100 degree, put yerba mate as much as you want. Boil it 10 second and off the stove. Just wait 5 minute and the yerba mate will naturally go down without press. Testy with milk and little sugar.
All that fuss just to make mate cocido. I'm a yanqui who lived in Argentina for a long, long time. You can also boil water in a saucepan, throw some mate in and stir it until you get the color (strength) you want. It only takes a minute. When you take it off the heat, add a little slosh of cold water. It stops the 'cooking" and makes the leaves sink to the bottom. Then pour it and drink it. You can add sugar and/or milk if you like. Or, if you're really in a hurry/lazy, get mate en saquitos (mate in bags) and make it in a cup like tea with a tea bag.
If you just made your yerba mate with the french press (using fresh herbs) and you would like to reuse the yerba mate to make another batch, but you are not going to make another batch immediately (maybe a few hours later), how would you store the yerba mate (I.E. open container, air tight container, etc...) (I can't keep mine in the french press because it is stainless steel)? Also, is there a time frame the used batch of yerba mate should be used within (I.E. after a day the old batch should be discarded and a fresh batch of yerba mate should be used in the french press)?
Great video Dave. I've been following you with your videos for a few years now. What is the best tempature to infuse the yerba mate? And I know that it varies with all yerba mates. I am drinking rosamonte right now. I often just heat the water from my coffee maker I think that it heats up to 180. Is that to hot or cold? I think that with a bombilla and gourd it be around 160 but with a french press I'm just winging it. Great video brother.

@CasualDude Hi mate ! ..... Cruz de Malta is a milder flavour and smoked , (to dry it), I believe , with the plant twigs still in! Perfect balance 🍵😎 I usually use about 5 tea bags of peppermint tea , I only using the contents of the tea bags and disguard the 'paper'. It's just my personal preference. Sometimes Melissa plant too - it tastes like lemon grass! I prefer to use 3 scoops / tbsp of Yerba per litre , then I chuck the leaves out unless I'm going to do a refill within the same day , I'll use the same leaves again but with another 3 scoops of Yerba also. Kraus Pure Leaf ( organic ) is much stronger / bitter than the weaker Cruz de Malta, hope that you find your happy medium and enjoy The Drink of The Gods 👍
@CasualDude Yes , Kruz de Malta is a lighter brown but I find it is much smoother and I love the flavour ( twice the price of Kraus organic tho ! ). I buy in bulk now from Urushop in Leicester :)

Excellente, kind sir! I love leaving mine for as long as possible, often when I'm night shifts I prepare it in the morning and drink it during the night and MAN (!), does it kicks :D (also it seems to be very helping when you catch a cold)
how do you get that extentsion on the end of the plunger? my bodum doesnt have that... seems like it makes a big difference, as it doesn not reach reach far enough to press the mate..
I recently came up with an idea of making my powdery yerba mate in a pressure espresso maker and I can't believe I didn't think about it earlier, so struggled with the powder in my mouth lol
Is using the gourd less bitter than using this French press ? I just used this French press and it's bitter af ! What brand of Yerba mate is less bitter ?
I learned to drink both mate cocido and tereré when I was in Paraguay. Tereré is mate made with cold water. What I like to do is make mate cocido in my French press and then chill it in the fridge. It's the perfect thing for when it is baking hot outside.
KC, why not stir it? Don't know. But, it stays good for a very long time after brewing. Like, several days. The yerba settles to the bottom but it's still good. I get two good presses from yerba before is starts to lose flavor.
Rather than “heaping teaspoon,” a better measurement for reference would be a tablespoon. the amount in each spoon is surely more than 2 teaspoons, but it looks close to one tablespoon.
That plastic thing below the metal part of the press. What is it called and where do I get it? I have a bodum too, but it only has the metal part, and doesnt go down to the bottom. So when i make the mate it only strains out the water, I cant actually press it to get all the water out of the wet leaves. Maybe you cant just buy that one part by itself, so telling me the model of your french press would help me too.
*****, you can reuse Mate leaves? Woo hoo! Okay, it's the perfect health beverage. I can make it in my son's French Press and it's now cheap, too?! How do I do this? Should I store the used Mate leaves in the frig? Does each successive brewing have fewer healthy compounds in it?

+Khalifa Almannai Appreciate it!
Hi, I‘d like to start drinking Yerba mate. Could you please recommend a brand?
Mission Organic Yerba Mate.
what type of mate for french press? mate with powder or just leaves and sticks?
Brazilian style Erva Matè ( powdered Matè) won't work in a French Press as it blocks the holes & French Press won't press down - I've tried !
Is using the gourd less bitter than using this French press ? I just used this French press and it's bitter af !
What brand of Yerba mate is less bitter ?
good stuff bro
thanks for the info.
Thanks a lot.
Can you Tell me, How many Times can i use the same mate letters?
, 🇦🇷
I learned to drink both mate cocido and tereré when I was in Paraguay. Tereré is mate made with cold water. What I like to do is make mate cocido in my French press and then chill it in the fridge. It's the perfect thing for when it is baking hot outside.

I was wondering about the ability to use a Toddy to make iced Yerba Mate. Do you have any advice on how to make yerba mate with this fashion?
this is amazing!! can I make yerba mate iced?
Mohammad Alhumazi sure! We have many article about how to prepare it cold on circleofdrink.com.
Sure, It's called tereré.
Is it safe to drink while fasting?
I personally do quite often with no issue.
Definitely going to try this out tomorrow :)
What does that mean bottom French press??
I just tried this for my first cup of mate. Is there a good way to store the steeped mate?
Mr. Wizard Fridge should be fine.
How would vigorously stirring effect it adversely? Oh and how long does it stay good after a brew and how many brews from a press?
KC, why not stir it? Don't know. But, it stays good for a very long time after brewing. Like, several days. The yerba settles to the bottom but it's still good. I get two good presses from yerba before is starts to lose flavor.
My first day pressing with mate! Can i add a mushroom matrix powder to the mate?
Sure.
Rather than “heaping teaspoon,” a better measurement for reference would be a tablespoon. the amount in each spoon is surely more than 2 teaspoons, but it looks close to one tablespoon.
Can you do this with ERVA mate? Fine powder?
If there are particular steps to take with French pressing erva would you please make a video (:
Thank you for this great video! There are always some dust in the tea. I wonder how to deal with the dust? Thanks!
Tianyi Kou the powder is good.
Different yerba's have different amounts of dust added to them.. or not.
Awesome video. So helpful.
'Heaped teaspoon' ... that's a tablespoon...
shhh... that's my secret recipe.
Great video! Thanks!
Andrew Posfai did you ever figure out what it is? I can't find it anywhere.
Khor Ba i have a bodum press where the metal sift goes all the way down to the bottom when empty. Works well!
what type of bodum are you using i don't see many pictures with the big black piece on the bottom of the filter
34 oz.
Hi Dave, what's the best yerba mate to prepare mate cocido? and why? Thanks.
Eleo Basili Hey. There is no best, but I prefer the Earthy clean taste of Mission.
can u reuse it in french press ? or u throw it out after u filled one whole french press thingy and drank
hey buen sistema. el mate es tradicional de mi pais. una formas mas de las tanta que existen
Is it also possible to put the hole mate after you used the french press into a thermos flask instead into some cups?
hi do you know how to infuse fruit on frech press , if so can you make a video?
+champir3 Add the fruit to the french press just as you would tea and it'll infuse.
I always make my mate this way...however, do yo think I could french press Gaucho chimarrao? it is quite powdery
+V de Vasc. Sure, people do it. Not as easy.
Cool, tried it! Works quite well.. Many thanks!!
Great
Another question! Is it possible to reuse the Mate leaves when brewing this way or am i best to use fresh leaves?
You sure can. Use up to 2-3 times.
What's frig?
the refrigerator. Sorry
Sure, many people brew their mate up to 2-3 times.
Mate changed my life. It restored my brain back to normal. I
