Delaware White Perch Run! (Spring 2021)

  • Every spring for about 1-2 months, the white perch move up into Delaware's tidal creeks and rivers. The white perch run can provide a lot of fun ultralight fishing if you know where to look for these fish. The action can be fast and furious, but the perch can also disappear in the blink of an eye. In today's video, I was able to find some white perch at the very beginning of their run up this particular creek. Hope you enjoy!

      @@timfurey7336 You might be right. They've been in the bottom of my tackle box for a few years so I wasn't sure what exactly they were. Thanks for watching!

    Your lure is a Sexy Shad from Wally world. I love them for fishing that whole creek and spillway. They are the perfect jig i have a box with 10 or 12 colors. You can fish them sooooooooo slow, and be mega productive when noone else is catching.

    White Perch and Stripe Bass both run up stream to spawn......Perch run and start biting in mid April followed by the Strippers in May.....

    Another good video Dave, I have been up there a few time in the last week. Closer to the spillway worked out good for me.

    Dude! I have that very rod with the matching reel. Also I know most of the spots you frequent. 😁. Still trying to find some of the others. Waiting for those stripe bass to run!

    Good stuff! Yeah, white perch can be pretty aggressive... and it makes sense, as they are technically "true" bass; they're in the same family as striped bass. It can be tough to find them over pound, but when they do get in that size range, they put up a heck of a fight!

    • @Orange22Fishing
      @Orange22Fishing  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      For sure! I love their aggressiveness. They seem to hit pretty much anything I put in front of them this time of year. Thanks for watching!

    Save two or three of the big ones for cut bait, keep half a dozen in a minnow bucket with a bubbler. Then use them for stripers in the Delaware. Big cats eat 'em too. Fun...then more fun!

    • @Orange22Fishing
      @Orange22Fishing  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Sounds like i'll have to try that and make a video out of it!

    White perch are a freshwater fish but they live in brackish water most of their lives. To spawn effectively they need to lay their eggs in freshwater. There is more food and space in brackish areas so they move in and out seasonally. You mention blood worms working well and that is true. White perch are very scent oriented. If you add scent and flavor to your bait it may increase your bite and catch rate. The largest white perch tend to hit metal baits like spoons.

    • @rogerredden1079
      @rogerredden1079 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      All of the brackish water ways going up stream to the fresh waters are a likely place to fish... Just don't trespass on private property or Karen may get you!!!!

    Catching on artificial is much better than worms, and of course a bait fisherman leaves behind the plastic bag on the ground. 8 pound bluefish in that little creek? That spot was fire that day.

    • @Orange22Fishing
      @Orange22Fishing  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      For sure! That location is pretty close to the bay, but still, a bluefish being caught in that creek is incredible!
