    I do a lot of kayak fishing in NJ. This was great information. Thanks for sharing. I wanted to target white perch but in a kayak you don't want to deal with blood worms. Too messy. Now I have my arsenal.

      Thanks so much Lou!! Comments like this really make my day, also make me happy to make videos just like this. I personally love bloodworms and don't mind the mess, but I definitely get it. Those other baits and lures do work really good, give fish bites a try if lures are slow. Would love to hear how you made you out!!! Thanks so much again for watching and the really nice comment.

    Very interesting thank you for sharing information also you stated you fishing New Jersey I'm looking for a head bolt out of Jersey that does the freshwater or brackish water fishing for the white perch

      Thanks so much for the tuning in and the comment... I really appreciate it. I'm so glad you found value in the video... head boats that fish for perch in NJ, wow that is a great questions. The suggestions I would have for you is simply dock fish or bridge fish or bank fish for these perch given the right conditions. I actually did a video on this to help out if your interested. you can find that video here: th-cam.com/video/he3pMqNhXDo/w-d-xo.html As far as head boats are concerned your best bet is to book a seat on any back bay pontoon boat as they will fish areas for flounder/fluke that "can" be very similar to perch spots in the early spring. There are also plenty of boat rental places in NJ shore points that you can take advantage of and find your own spots for perch. I'm not sure I know of a head boat in NJ that specifically targets white perch exclusively. If you find one, please let me know. I hope this helps. Let me know if you have any more questions. Thanks so much again for watching.

    Could use any worm or bait on a bottom rig and itll catch white perch bluegill really any small fish in any water

    • @Johnnyfishalot
      @Johnnyfishalot  หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      ehhhhh I wouldn't say any worm... White perch in the saltwater environment especially really do prefer bloodworms and these fish can also get picky (just like all fish). Also there are times where they are very VERY small pesky fish around that will steal your bait, and you could find yourself going through a small fortune in bait, which is where artificial lures and fish bites really are nice... Hope this helps... thanks so much for watching and the great comment. Really appreciate it.

    I don’t know know where you’re from but in Maryland store-bought shrimp is very expensive and grass shrimp from the bait shop is very cheap

    • @Johnnyfishalot
      @Johnnyfishalot  หลายเดือนก่อน

      Hey Matthew... I fish in NJ mostly, but also fish in MD (though I don't buy grass shrimp in MD). Here in NJ I can say buying live grass shrimp in the bait shops is pretty expensive compared to a giant bag of shrimp in the grocery stores... I also noticed in MD I would always get Salmon scraps at the grocery stores after they filleted the salmon, but I can't really find that in NJ too much either. Very weird considering the states aren't that far apart. That's awesome though that you getting good deals on live grass shrimp down there... awesome!! How's the fishing been down your way?

    Great tips thanks! I fish a small fw pond that’s maybe 80 acres that’s loaded with WP. Max depth ~15feet. What would be your go to bait/lure from a kayak?

    • @Johnnyfishalot
      @Johnnyfishalot  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks so much Wallabeezy for watching, the kind words, and the question. The go to bait for me that catches Perch all year round is bloodworms. Since they are expensive, however, I often substitute blood worms with blood worm scented fish bites. Addition comment: honestly for fun, if the fish are shallow and active like spring time I'd use a swimming soft plastic like a road runner, or crappie magnet... and if the fish are deeper 5 - 15 ft (like in your pond) a blade bait is SUPER fun! But, again, probably the best all around go to bait (for me) is bloodworms. I hope that helps! Let me know how you do. I'd love to know and love talking fishing! Have a great weekend.

      @@Johnnyfishalot I do well with nightcrawlers on bottom from shore but that’s hit or miss since the schools move so much. From the yak I’ve done well with small plastic minnow jigs in deep water and gulp minnows. The problem is finding them. That should improve once I get a depth finder though. Another weird thing I noticed is sometimes I will jig near the bottom and get no hits. Then when I’m reeling in to redrop it they will chase it all the way up and swipe right near the boat. I’m talking 10-15ft of water. Seems like they sit in the middle of water column at times. Anyways thanks for the tips and I’ll check your other vids 👍🏻

      @@pololife Hey Wallabeezy... That's awesome! sounds like your really figuring those fish out. Sounds like your doing exactly what you should be doing in figuring those fish out in your body of water... sounds awesome. You are 100% correct by the way, perch can literally be anywhere in the water column, it really depends on the time of year, water temps, weather, fishing trends etc. I love gulp baits for all sorts of different fishing, and perch is not exception. I will say if you find the perch following your baits, they are interested in hitting a lure (as they are following it), but something is putting them off where theyre not willing to take the bait. In these cases I would first try to change the profile of the bait, either larger or smaller, and/or changing the color of the bait. Often times a simple change to more accurately mimic something they are feeding on is all it takes to get them competing for your baits. Stay in touch, I'd love to know how you do and how your doing figuring out those fish. Sounds like your doing great though!! Thanks for all your support and kind words, appreciate it!!!

    You eat those fish? I used bigger live bait in Florida. But if that's what you have to catch i guess they're better than not fishin'.
    I just got a bag of the blood worm Fish Bites for catching bait, and I bet it's good to tip a bucktail jig.

    • @Johnnyfishalot
      @Johnnyfishalot  ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks again Comfortablynumb... Always appreciate your comments... you should definitely try white perch... they are delicious... the real purpose for catching them is really to eat them because they just taste so good... This is primarily why I go sea bass fishing as well... plus, it is really fun to get into the back waters with really light line and catch those fish, it is really fun. These are actually some of my best performing videos as well. Dead of winter, this is also one of the more prominiant species to catch in back water saltwater environments. Thanks so much again for the comment! Love talking fishing!!!

      Hey Robert... thanks so much for watching and the comment... I 100% agree with you. The reason it didn't make the list is they are usually harder to get, keep alive, and everything including other crabs eat them on the hook (blood worms aren't too far off either, to be honest). We bleed the the fish to dispatch them quickly and reduce any suffering, then we ice the fish to preserve the meat. This prevents the fish's ultimate sacrifice from being needless.
