Arsenal 2-1 Everton Reaction | Arsecast Extra

  • In this episode we reflect on the final day of the season, in which a 2-1 win over Everton wasn't enough to win us the title because of what happened elsewhere. We chat about how we feel after a long, mostly enjoyable campaign, but without the success everyone had hoped for, as well as contextualising Man City's fourth successive title and what it means for the Premier League as a competition. We have some listener questions about Emile Smith Rowe, whether or not it's realistic to think we can raise the level again next season, Cedric the werewolf, and lots more.

The "handball" decision is not too complicated. Since Jesus (a) had his arm down by his side (which this season has been questionably referred to as a "natural position" by officials) and (b) was not the goal scorer the referee must deem the handball to be deliberate for the goal to be ruled out (by contrast if the goal scorer handballs it it does not matter if it was accidental). I believe that the ref was asked to check if they should deem it deliberate. I also think that he, correctly, decided he couldn't tell, and so stuck with his decision. He could have just as easily been leaning over to chest the ball or dodge the boot of the Everton player, and I don't think we should ask refs to read players' minds.

    • @benjiradach1361
      @benjiradach1361 หลายเดือนก่อน +4

These were my thoughts too. No one seems to be taking into account Jesus's turn having to do with the boot coming toward him, while still trying to maintain control of the ball. He turned from his chest to his side mainly to take the boot on the arm rather than in the chest, which makes sense.

Well done. Finally, someone else gets it. 🤝 the discourse around handball is so annoying.
The law is very clear and not complicated at all. Its just that no one seems to bother reading or trying to understand it. Handball will always be a subjective decision by its very nature. If the ref can not be sure its deliberate, outside of the situations you described, they should not be giving fouls for handball.

Personally i think citeh will be absolved of most of the charges against them as the implications could be potentially catastrophic for the Premier League if they are found guilty. You can’t demote them without taking away titles. A points deduction would be irrelevant after the fact and the players would litigate not just against the club but also against the Premier League. There is also the ethical perspective concerning the players. Would you really want to take titles away from players who have done nothing wrong! The only thing i can say with some certainty is that the football authorities have really screwed this up.

The team that supposedly has the biggest rivalry is United and most of their fans are cheering for City to beat Arsenal while simultaneously outdoing the greatest record in the history of their own club. As much as I am liking Kai (after last Christmas period), he’s been playing as Centre Forward and he’s not exactly Winston Churchill!
Totally wrong from James and Andrew to fall into the trap of comparing 2 different players, different positions, different personalities etc etc.
My personal opinion (since you didn’t ask) is that we dropped valuable points against Villa (x6), against Fulham (x5) and those games that our energy/motivation was low in the camp, those are the moments that we needed all the leaders we could get, to get us through those difficult moments!

The reality of Liverpool winning a league back in... 2020!... was down to a lot of factors, like say, a global pandemic, a stop in play to recover and push the pace till the final game. Other than that, this City domination of 4 years is indicative of how much their financing has made the league into an insurmountable challenge and yet they'll see no discipline. Proud of the team but to be this nonchalant vs a team that is dominating while cheating, I just don't get how other fanbases hate us more than them.

Party can't play 4 games without needing a break , off seasons investments in quality in depth , and the addition of Obi Martin included in the first team squad will help. After reading the emails between the board of directors and the owner of Manchester City, I am convinced that the independent body will find City guilty of many, if not all of the charges.
The question is When and what the punishments will be. Man City's lawyers are the best in England and ironically their tactic has been park the bus and stall out the legal process as long as possible (and be hugely successful in the meantime) .
This is a dark mark on the Premiere League and they have done evrything they can so far to fight against City and put a strong case infront of the independent commission.

Why would City pay to an assistant manager? His job was to train players, not to oversee transfers or finances. The only way it works is if Arteta was going through drawers and stumbled upon a smoking gun, then blackmailed City. Which could only happen in movies.

in every aspect of our world the governing bodies that are supposed to be maintaining some kind of 'level playing field', if its football or housing or taxes, whatever area, they dont have the power, they cant actually punish the ultra rich in a meaningful way, even if they want to, which, does the EPL really want to punish city? i doubt it, but even if they wanted to, im not sure they can anyways. fact is there are lots of people and companies out there that are effectively above the law.
the worst bit to me is that whatever the EPL actually does, they are going to write the cover story for city themselves, because they have to pretend that everything's fine to protect themselves, and by doing that, they launder city's bs.

We rush shots under pressure and donhave enough exceptional ball strikers. Rice needs to practice free kicks and shooting as Odegaard (my fav player) isn't a threat from free kicks. Why is no one in their commentary talking about the absence of Saka? Even from the bench. I feel his absence was the first intimation. The fact of Saka not being there- as a presence- I feel was felt palpably by everyone, and I would hazard a guess, even by the players themselves.
Apart from his Gifts as a player, it was palpable on the day that Saka has a force as a talisman. And we were without him on our bidg day. The other thing, of course, is that we missed Saka the player on the day. I think the mood of everything would have been that much more buoyant if Saka was there, far less our quality of play on the day.
This was one of the first big games we've played in years without Saka on the putch or bench. It does give us a sense of how integral he is to us in so many ways- but it also alerts us to the fact that we have to diversify our pantheon. We need other lucky charms...
