  • Bible Messianic Prophecy 3 - "Messiah ben Joseph" or "Messiah ben David" Are there Two Different Messiahs? Mottel Baleston, Teacher
DID THE RABBIS BELIEVE IN TWO VERY DIFFERENT MESSIAHS? WHY DID THEY FOCUS ON MOSHIACH BEN DAVID WHEN WE NEEDED MOSHIACH BEN YOSEF FIRST?
This series on Messianic Prophecy in the Hebrew Scriptures (Old Testament) examines those passages predicticing the coming of a Messiah and Savior. Each part is 27 minutes, and was filmed in 2020 by our friends at GLC, God's Learning Channel at their studios in Texas. They have a fine ministry, and deserve your prayer and support. Their contact info is on the videos.
Mottel Baleston was born into a Jewish home in New York City and attended Jewish and public schools there. He came to faith in Messiah Jesus after reading the Messianic prophecies in the Jewish Bible. He is Director of the "MESSENGERS OF THE NEW COVENANT", communicating the Good News of Messiah to the Jewish community, discipling Jewish believers and educating Christians concerning the Jewish roots of their faith. He has served as Messianic Rabbi of a Congregation in New Jersey, as well as a Hebrew class instructor. His articles appear in Ariel Magazine, and his teaching videos on several online venues.

Messengers” carries on a work of sharing Messiah Jesus within the Jewish community using the principle of 1st Cor. 9:20, seeing Jewish people come to faith and doing basic discipleship of Jewish believers. We’ve seen many Jewish people come to faith in our Messiah. We also educate Christians about the Jewish roots of faith in Jesus, help prepare them to reach their Jewish friends with the Good News of Messiah and fight anti-semitism by correcting mis-information about the Jewish people.

Thank you for explaining Ben Joseph and Ben David. My son in law is Jewish and I am trying to write back and forth with him comparing Genesis from Christian viewpoint and letting him explain his viewpoint. I pray we can keep our discussion peaceful and that sometime he we see Jesus as both Joseph and David.

Yes, I've been recommending the Mitchell book since it came out. This video was filmed before that book was issued, based on material Dr. Arnold Fruchtenbaum researched & taught in his classes many years ago. On my later videos I've urged people to purchase the Mitchell book, he did a very through research on this important subject. Big contribution to scholarly research.Shalom, Mottel

As usual Rabbi Baleston has given us a very clear understanding in this episode. My takeaway is that if the jews has been sent a messiah ben David he could possibly have taken care of the roman occupation problem but that would leave them with the sin problem, sometheing that messiah ben David could never have done. The jews (and all of us) have the sin problem and this is what needed to be taken care of, the ocupation problem under ben David would accomplish nothing. Rabbi Baleston said it right, we all need to get right with God, "alll have sinned", we all need Jesus. When the jewish people insist that he, Jesus failed to accomplish all the things they feel he should have done they fail to see that jesus had to first address the sin problem that is in all of us, to the jew first and also to the gentile, sin is everyone´s stumbling block and we all need to have this taken care of first!🙏Israel Perez viewing and learning from Guatemal, C.A.

Interesting. The Messiah ben Joseph was rejected by his brothers, delivered to estrangers, presumed dead, but was alive and prospered among gentiles. After, his brothers met him again and recognized that his dreams were truly from God.

Thus, Jesus fulfils the Samiritans' expectations of a messiah Ben Joseph. The samritans were not looking from the Jews.

Thank you for explaining Messiah Ben Joseph, as a Christian I have always seen Jesus as Messiah Ben David, especially since his genealogy is Davidic, through his step father Joseph and through his mother Mary, this was through the levitate marriage laws and laws for families with no sons for their daughters, and Mary was an only child. I know that the Davidic lineage of Jesus was never questioned in scripture. But I am glad to know that Messiah Ben Joseph also fits Jesus.

Mottel Baleston. We have a common friend who says you are in his class. Jeff A. From Alaska. I want to try to get you up here to teach us, maybe over a few days but I’m not the guy to make that happen. We could learn a lot from you

    • @messengersmessianicjewisho1058

Yes !! Dr. Jeff A. is an excellent Instructor, a real believer and an Old Testament Scholar. I've now had him for two classes, and I just signed up for a third coming up: Second Temple Judaism. I particularly appreciate his PowerPoints accompanied by Audio Lectures. His gentle diplomacy in refereeing an online required discussion on the place of Mosaic Law for believers was skillful, clearly the result of years of experience. My current schedule for the next year probably rules out Alaska for now. All the best, Shalom, Mottel

      Chaver yikar,
That's a very heavy accusation, and it rests or falls on only one issue:
Was Yeshua Moshiach ben Yosef ??
In the first century CE, tens of thousands of Yehudim dat'tim saw the
messianic miracles and were convinced that He was Moshiach ben Yosef.
You are looking for Moshiach ben David, but Moshiach ben Yosef had to come first.
Re Moshiach ben Yosef, this is what the Vilna Gaon said:
“This is one of Yosef’s attributes. Not just in his generation but in every generation,
Mashiach ben Yosef recognizes his brothers and they do not recognize him.
It is an act of the Satan which conceals Mashiach ben Yosef’s attributes,
such that the Jews unfortunately do not recognize his footsteps and in fact scoff at them…
If not for this, our troubles would already be over.
If Israel recognized Yosef, Mashiach ben Yosef footsteps comprising the ingatherings
of the exiles, we would already be completely redeemed.” -
(Rabbi Eliyahu of Vilna - The “Vilna Gaon” 1720-1797 Kol HaTor 2:39)
Many other Gedolim said similar things about the concept of Moshiach ben Yosef.
No, my laying this out is not a Chillul HaShem, it is pointing to HaKadosh Baruch Hu.
      b'Ahavat Yisrael, Mottel
