Love this seed stitch vid! I'm still watching you on half-speed to try & see your hand movements. I knit continental, but wouldn't object to learning your way, "flicking", right (?). I'm very adept at mistakes, so I'm becoming very adept at fixing them. :) TOPIC: I would love to see this video, with your noticing a mistake that you had made some rows down. Show us how to LIFELINE the last correct row, frog down, knit correctly once again. That process. PLEASE. Thank you for answering my comment, similar, from the last couple of weeks. :)))
Your tutorials are great, Traci. Even though I may think I know all about a given topic, you almost always show me something new. In this case, what seed stitch looks like when worked at a *consistent* loose gauge. I kinda like it! But I really have to watch my tension when I knit.
Thank you for these very clear instructions. I am on my second seed stitch cowl. Your columns look perfectly straight. My columns seem to curve. Why would that be? I have 73 sts on 12" circular needles. Thank you.
I love your tutorials. I am a crocheter that has always wanted to be able to knit as well as I crochet. Since I found your tutorials I have been able to do just that. It has been a long slow process involving a LOT of frogging but I have got there. Thank you. I do have 1 question though about this tutorial. Do you have to have an odd number or even number of stitches cast on or does it not matter? I love the look of this stitch and I have the perfect chunky (I'm In Northern Ireland and so I use UK yarn weights.) yarn for a scarf, hat, gloves set. The stitch will bring out the colours of the yarn as it is variegated. Thank you for your awesome videos. :-)

I taught myself to knit Continental Style, but rarely use it to purl (because it's a little awkward), EXCEPT for seed stitch (and 1x1 or 2x2 ribbing), where you have to switch back and forth.

I am knitting a sweater with seed stitch now. It is not as closely stitched together as your example but that will do for now. My question is; on occasion I see a larger space between my stitches. Is that due to tension or something else. I have gone back to check for purling when I should be knitting or vise versa but do not see that to be the problem. Could you show how to start seed stitch from casting on, cause for some reason my knit and purls alternate thier leading yarn on the same row (knits will lead on back, and purls lead on front or vice versa when i try playing around with knitting the first two rows.) The knits or purls will come out twisted if I follow the video, unless I intentionally knit them according to thier leading leg. (Example: If the knit leads from front, then I purl at front. Next shows a purl leading at the back so I knit at the back... and so on.)

I'm at a point in the pattern that directs you to INC 6 seed st over the first 4 and the last 4 sts of the row 😳 I'm lost. The pattern designer no longer supports the pattern therefore un reachable :-( would you be able to offer me some help on this? The first stitch is it matters is a Purl. Thank you.
Do you have a video on broken seed stitch? I havent been able to find one anywhere. Im trying to knit a hat in the round and Id like to use a broken seed stitch with 2 colors. I love the look of it but I have no idea what Im doing! Lol
Yes - just keep in mind that seed stitch and garter stitch have different row gauges...switching from garter to seed could leave you with a floppy border.
Moss stitch in the uk is equal to us seed stitch. In the us moss stitch is different where 2 rows of knit and purl will line up and the next ones will be offset
The other video channel over-simplified the instructions. In this video, I explain that seed stitch is alternating knit and purl stitches, but your next stitch is based on what you knit the row below, and not necessarily based on starting with a knit stitch each row/round.
Lindsay Dallas Z Those mats are sold in the sewing section of Joann Fabrics. They are meant for cutting fabric with a rotary cutter, and are just called a rotary cutting mat. They come in several sizes from table size to quite portable....
On a similar note there is no official demonstration of moss stitch - odd and even numbers of stitches please.....you have some in various places but no proper demo....just saying thank you for your wonderful work.
It may have to do with your gauge...if you are using a needle size that is too big for the yarn, you'll end up with a fabric that is very loose and doesn't show off the seed stitch. You can use a smaller needle size to fix that. Usually you'll see a recommended needle size on the yarn label.

It can be an even or odd cast-on number, just be sure you're knitting the purls and purling the knits on each row - that's what makes seed stitch.

Love your videos. I make all my own dishrags and always use the seed stitch because, to me, it is mistake proof and I can knit them quickly.

Love it! I use. K1, P1 ribbing on most of my hats, so I really don’t mind the pattern at all...In fact, I like it!
You make pulling look so easy using the flicking method. That's one such I'm trying to get used to doing but so far no luck yet

I just saw a baby blanket done in the moss stitch. Is the seed stitch the same?
Sometimes they are the same stitch, with different names. Other times the stitches alternate every two rows, instead of every row.
How about a video on how to increase at either end of a flat piece. I am not sure how to do same and then have the pattern work out in the next row.
Would this stitch work in place of garder stitch? Like for edge work, I find the garder stitch boring .

No - just be aware that you're knitting the purls and purling the knits, every row or round.
In New Zealand we called it moss stitch ... have you heard of this ? whatever it's called I like it :)
Here in the US, moss stitch is a bit different...alternating Ks and Ps like seed stitch, but knitting pairs of identical rows.

A good rule of thumb is to use the needle size recommended on the yarn label. That is a good starting point.

why don't you include different type of heels which i learned that there are 16 methods of making heels! I am so shocked when I find out about this.
