tbh in a 200 even when he has a lapse in execution (bend at oly trials final) he still ran a 19.5, he was in 19.4 shape that day imo. So now I just don’t see anyone being in the same zipcode
Been saying Noah is gonna do the 100-200 meter double at Paris since 2021 and I certainly ain't changing my mind now that he's completed the harder part of that double, Lyles all the way and USA for the 4x1, Noah coming home from France with 3 golds mark my words.
Very promising to finally see him actually shut it down and truly conserve. He’s going to be dangerous if he remains this responsible en route to the final.
It's interesting how much is made of a runner's absolute best time as if it's predictive of performance. Example: Yohan Blake: 19.26 Noah Lyles: 19.31 Blake is better, right? 0.05 better, to be exact, but hang on... Yohan Blake's 4th-best time: 19.78 Noah Lyles's 25th-best time: 19.78 Noah basically wins every race against Blake in his prime EXCEPT the ONE TIME he ran 19.26. It's not all about records.
I'd like to be with you on this one as I'm a huge Lyles fan, but I think it's important to remember that Blake basically ran two years at the top level before getting seriously injured and never coming back from it (2011-2012)
Bolt - 9.58/19.19 Lyles 100m SB when he ran 19.31 was 9.95 though his PB a couple years before that year was 9.86. I think it’s fascinating that Lyle’s’ 100m is 0.28 seconds slower than Bolt’s 100m yet only 0.12 away from the 200m world record. If Lyles runs low 9.7, then it’s a wrap for him to break the 200m world record. If he runs sub 9.7, then it should be a guarantee he breaks the 200m world record. Can he break the 200m world record with a PB of 9.79? Who knows. He was only 0.12 away from it when he was running 9.95 that year with his 19.31. He truly is an amazing 200m runner based off of his 100m PB
I see what you’re saying - but the 100m and 200m are completely different events. It’s the bend that is so hard to run correctly that makes 19.19 so tough. Usain came out of the bend at 9.92 and then finished in 9.27. Lyles isn’t close to the opening 9.92 of Bolts (10.07). He’s gotta come out smoking in the first part but still I don’t think he can get 19.19. I’m thinking his peak is around Yohan’s 19.26
@@yawos9024 exactly. He’s going to trade off a faster opening 100 with a bit slower final 100. I don’t think he can get 19.19 but I think he can dip into the high 19.2X’s
With a +2.0 m/s wind and a 0.11s reaction time, given Lyles’s improvement in his 60m and 100m, he could actually run a sub 19.2. Yes, sounds crazy, but if the stars align, it will happen. And under those conditions Tebogo will run a 19.4 for silver. Without the wind boost and a fast reaction time, I think Lyles will win with a 19.4 and Tebogo silver with a 19.5.

Not really. Noah has more sub-19.7 races than anyone in history. Don't just focus on the top time someone has run: look at their top 10-15.
