From what I’ve read and my experience, crappie tend to be grouped more vertically and on some kind of structure. Bass will be spread apart horizontally.
I like these difficult cold days fishing from Greg. Reminds me of the holidays waiting for spring to come back. His vids are much appreciated especially when most of us stay inside for the winter. Nice vid bro.
Lol..Yes most of us stay inside, spending $$ on our kayaks. But it's nice to go over your gear, get some idea's for the yak, Mtc, added accessory. And stocking up on new baits..🤟🎣🙏
I like this alot. We all have those tough days. Being able to watch the decisions you make, and how you judge presentation based on what you could see on the graph. Real content.
You seem more relaxed or animated recently, and funny. Good stuff man! And ya, strange set of fish you caught. That's what I love about fishing, you never know what you're gonna get.
I love this video. One, it's on my favorite lake. Two, you had to problem solve. That showed how much skill you really have. And the fact that you didn't quit. Good fishing. Hope to see you out there one of these days. The areas you were in are big crappie schooling areas. Thanks for locating them for me. I'll be out there this weekend.
Greg, love the commitment of you fishing a different lake, and deeper depths. If it were mid summer, I believe, you'd caught allot more bass. It's this time of year. Alway's feels so difficult. But, knew you'd figure it out bro! Be safe..🤟🎣🙏
I really love this one Greg, one thing that can really get me back out on the water is identifying my weaknesses and working on them and deep water bass is definitely one of mine as well and one I am working on this time of year, so I am glad to see you out there and look forward to the next video and helping guys like me beat that learning curve just a little quicker.
I just did this today lol. My home lake is defintely a monster to tackle but offshore produces the best fish hands down. Tip for you, sit on your graph and rely on your graph heavily and always start with a swimbait
Sup Greg long time fan love how you’re showing you’re lures/baits In the corner again for us. As always you’re the man when it comes to kayak bass fishing, you’re inspiring me to fish everyday and probably get a kayak soon. ✌️
Berry is always good for the slam and the deep bite can certainly make you a hero or major zero. Having been both makes it a gamble for me everytime that case presents itself. Well done!
Love the music on your intro outro shots. You do this so well. Loved the diversity of fish caught especially the salmonid and big sunfish. More videos like this please
Congrats! Way to stick it out and not abandon your challenge. It’s why you are always getting better (although I think I saw a few moments of weakness as you looked longingly at the shore thinking it’s only a cast away!!). Confidence in fishing deep +1.
Greg please get a pan optics sonar for your kayak!!! That will vastly upgrade your bass catching skills! You can find the deep fish and see exactly what colors and baits they like more then other.. it's like sight casting without the bass being on edge and seeing you!!!
Thank you for sharing your knowledge and your thought process…I always look forward to your next videos…keep them coming and keep that positive attitude. 🙏🏼
Those bluegill look like dinner! Deepwater jigging like that can be tough. No experience fishing for bass like that, but definitely lakers and striped bass. Keep it up, you'll get em!
Story time fishing deep or shallow is very interesting topic. The way bass moce through the seasons but some bass just stay deep and some bass just stay shallow. One bait works well for deep is drop shot rig
When looking at fish on electronics schooled up, crappie, bluegill and gizzard shad tend to vertically stack. Meaning the school will be as tall as it is wide. Bass spread out more horizontal. That school in the beginning of the video were for sure bass.
Interesting to see you fish deep. Here in Australia we often fish deep in the lakes for our bass (up to 80ft in some of them) with all kinds of lures and often in big schools. Was wondering if anyone got them deep consistently as lots of clips I see suggest it’s often edges and shallows.
Try dropping a GoPro down there when you’ve got a lot of action on your fish finder to see if bass are really there or if it’s just crappie or something else
@@robtre5892 most people arent trying to spend several grand for live scope/forward facing sonar. specially on a kayak. the go pro idea would be cool for a video anyway.
@@tagg946 agreed. Livescope seems a tad expensive if you are not in a boat. They should ban that stuff anyways. In 10 years the tech will allow you to just send a drone down there to catch them for you and you can stay in the parking lot.
Greg, that was a beautiful day, beautiful bass, and the striper was beautiful. I think what could've been, would've been at least a top 5 finish for you. You've done well In your tournaments this year. Awesome job bro! 🌊 🎣 🛶
I watched a couple of videos from guys who finished higher in the food allergy tournament and they were all catching their fish offshore. Watching you struggle to catch a limit pounding the shallows made me wonder hmmm "Greg needs to up his game". This is a very welcome site to see you exploring other avenues and possibilities knock'em dead my friend.
I will follow you to the offshore structure! I caught another nice bass punching today and I would like to say thank you for showing me one of my new top favorite ways to fish!!!
thats funny, ive been fishing that island spot for the last few weeks.. yes, lots of bass there... I get them deep cranking and if they don't want it, then the jig super slow.. mostly smallies there.
Dude learning how to target deep water that is worth fishing not just open water with out electronics is so so difficult cuz we like bass see structure up to banks so we fish it for days with no or little bites cuz it feels good and confident.... good video
I had my personal best day of fishing yesterday here in Florida. 18 bass caught fishing a river from 11 to 5. biggest was only 3 to 4 pounds. And I lost the biggest fish of the day which felt bad. But non stop action out of the kayak, ultra fun
"Actually I suck" I have said these words more times then I want to admit. I'm a bank beater and I know there are hawgs deep but I don't use electronics so I stick to the banks. Good on you for trying something new.
Just done did the same. Caught my pb smallie on a deep drop shot. I’ve never tried really or caught fish on the drop shot. Now I can’t wait to do it again
Crappie typically stack up on top, so instead of being spread out on your graph, theyll be vertically stacked. Those images at the beginning of the video were big, could've been carp, kokanee, trout
I had a skunk yesterday on my buddies boat. He caught 6 on a drop shot out deep. He was trying a plethora of baits too on 6lb fluro. I had 8 lb fluro leader around 15ft. I need to totally rethink my clear water fishing.
You had an identical day to me this past weekend. Drop shot right on their heads, except my by catch were perch. Your zoom Z drop did not fail. Cheers.
Greg, serious question. Do you think ion order to be most competitive on a national kayak circuit like the hobie bos's or the kbf, or the bassmaster........do you think you need to have livescope type sonar on your kayak? I notice more and more people getting it on kayaks. Like most of the year, you'd be fine, especially spring and early summer. But when it gets down to the nitty gritty late in year and at smallmouth lakes, and going into the championships in fall.......do you think you need it to compete??
I saw that maxscent work in a giant tank with 50 bass they wouldn't eat anything and then the flatworm went in and a giant swam from the other end 30ft away and ate it. Its incredible
Im a float tube fishermen and I have a lot of success deep by reading bank and dragging bottom to feel desirable structure 20 - 35 feet of water I usually look for shallow near fast deep
Hey Greg. I know you all probably talk and such. But it would be awesome to see you collaborate more with Damien and Tas… Your videography skills are next level, and they can help you work on your weaknesses ?? Just some food for thought !!! Love the content as always !!! Much Love from South Africa !!! 🇿🇦
I really need to learn how to fish deeper too! My water is completely different though, all I have to fish is dirty stained rivers near me...I do have a bunch of 20ft+ drop offs on the channel banks that need to work on...I honestly just dont know what baits to use...
You highlighted Daminan Thao. I subbed to him also, and he has 3 separate graphs, one of which is the newer "live scope" or whatever. You think about getting one of those?
I've worked on deep structure fishing this entire year starting in February caught fish everytime due to persistence on my part on Monday November 1st in Missouri I fired up an entire school after catching the first bass off of a brush pile in 20 ft depth using a mag ned rig caught 5 more back to back the bass were hitting it before it even reached the structure
From what I’ve read and my experience, crappie tend to be grouped more vertically and on some kind of structure. Bass will be spread apart horizontally.
Was just gonna mention the same. Bass spread out, horizontally. And they like some space between them.
Greg “beat the bank” Blanchard
Lmao most accurate comment
Look at Greg Hackney how much money has he won beating the bank?
sad but true! 😅
A season or two of you focusing on more deep water fishing isnt a bad thing. Great upload.
get pan optic, absolute game changer and how Damian catches em deep
Minor sticker shock at the cost!!
Love it! Recognizing your weaknesses + doing what you you're not accustomed to = growth. Improving your craft. Beautiful thing.
Dude this was perfect. I’m always a little lost when I have to look deep for fish. I mostly fish and catch them up near or on the banks.
I like this alot. We all have those tough days. Being able to watch the decisions you make, and how you judge presentation based on what you could see on the graph. Real content.
Finally Greg works on deep water fish. Woohoo. Great to see you mastering your craft
Tip for deep fishing, pick either starting in shallow offshore, and move to deep or vice versa
Ever try a 2.8 inch keitech with a heavy jig head? Think those were shellcracker you were catching, get big and can be very fun!

“The Bluegilator “!!!!!!!!! Thanks man. Great videos. Can’t wait for tourney season to start up again. Hunting the rush!!!!!!

I like that you use a traditional graph. I don’t know if it would be as fun to watch if you were video game fishing off a live scope all day
I really love this one Greg, one thing that can really get me back out on the water is identifying my weaknesses and working on them and deep water bass is definitely one of mine as well and one I am working on this time of year, so I am glad to see you out there and look forward to the next video and helping guys like me beat that learning curve just a little quicker.
Dude, I respect the grind so much. I would’ve went straight to the bank after 3 hrs
I just did this today lol. My home lake is defintely a monster to tackle but offshore produces the best fish hands down. Tip for you, sit on your graph and rely on your graph heavily and always start with a swimbait
These late in the day videos are throwing me off!! Lol! I don’t get to watch at lunch but after dinner is fine.
Not sure if this is in your FAQ section, but wouldn't it be more efficient to pull up the pedal drive when running the electric motor?
A great day of fishing !!! Thats the way to stick with it !!! Love those bluegill ! You learned a lot today and a great video !!! Thanks !

Berryessa is really good this time of the year. I use to hate deep water fishing, but now I enjoy Nov - Feb fishing 20-60 feet.
Berry is always good for the slam and the deep bite can certainly make you a hero or major zero. Having been both makes it a gamble for me everytime that case presents itself. Well done!

Awesome how u recognize a weakness and put in the time to get better at it #lifelessons
Absolutely love your channel!!!! You should do a giveaway, fishing trip with you for the day would be amazing!
I'm with you there that deep water fishing is a grind, but it does pay off if you can get them to bite. And that first fish was a trout
Dude that spinning setup. 🔥
Congrats! Way to stick it out and not abandon your challenge. It’s why you are always getting better (although I think I saw a few moments of weakness as you looked longingly at the shore thinking it’s only a cast away!!). Confidence in fishing deep +1.
Ned rig crawfish
Greg please get a pan optics sonar for your kayak!!! That will vastly upgrade your bass catching skills! You can find the deep fish and see exactly what colors and baits they like more then other.. it's like sight casting without the bass being on edge and seeing you!!!
god i love me some greg blanchard videos.
Good goal! The only way to get better at something is to force yourself to do it and do it again and again. Now I need to listen to my own words!
Thank you for sharing your knowledge and your thought process…I always look forward to your next videos…keep them coming and keep that positive attitude. 🙏🏼
Always enjoy your videos, thank you! Me and my son got into kayak fishing because of you
Those bluegill look like dinner! Deepwater jigging like that can be tough. No experience fishing for bass like that, but definitely lakers and striped bass. Keep it up, you'll get em!

Know the depth where the fish are hanging out and hit those points! Go Greg! GO!!!
Jon B's last video is a very good on deeper water graph fishing, I learned alot!
Great video tackling one of the more challenging aspects of bass fishing. Keep it up!

If you are catching trout you're likely in water that is too cold. bass and trout tend not to overlap much.
Good ole Berryessa great place to catch deeper bass.
Try a Damiki rig. 1/4 oz. Moon Eye jig with a SK Baby ZeeToo trailer. Also a tail spinner. Dead stick the bait on the bottom for a short while.
I look forward to watching this deep water endeavour. Love watching your videos and journeys.
I will follow you to the offshore structure! I caught another nice bass punching today and I would like to say thank you for showing me one of my new top favorite ways to fish!!!
can't beat a punch bite!
thank you greg
thats funny, ive been fishing that island spot for the last few weeks.. yes, lots of bass there... I get them deep cranking and if they don't want it, then the jig super slow.. mostly smallies there.
More of these please

Start wasn't so good but sure made up for it in the evening!!!
Sweet sesh! You are a jack of all trades bass angler!

Yooooo. At 12:40, that's a massive Bluegill! I can't be the only one that thinks that! Greg totally lipped that thing! 😳
Thank god. I was all caught up and still stuck at home with covid. Thanks for the videos Greg.
Get well soon!
Crappie typically stack up on top, so instead of being spread out on your graph, theyll be vertically stacked. Those images at the beginning of the video were big, could've been carp, kokanee, trout
That was a rainbow trout and they're delicious! Great video Greg
I had a skunk yesterday on my buddies boat. He caught 6 on a drop shot out deep. He was trying a plethora of baits too on 6lb fluro. I had 8 lb fluro leader around 15ft. I need to totally rethink my clear water fishing.
Cool video Greg this is a skill I will have master for sure. Fish the moment has a lot of good info on deep fishing with electronics
Greg, great video. I sense it may be hard to discern what type of fish is on the graph.
Good job 👍 Greg !
Awesome video as always. Way to adjust
Can’t beat those brown fish! The ol variety pack forsure as well. Enjoy.
Yes! A video for the trip home!
Catching all the species like Greg’s floating on top of the Bass Pro Shop tank,…
You had an identical day to me this past weekend. Drop shot right on their heads, except my by catch were perch. Your zoom Z drop did not fail. Cheers.
Man those are some nice shellcrackers.
Bro it's definitely the flat worms!! Them suckers work!

For deep fishing Forward facing live sonar is so helpful, might be more efficient for u to fish the banks until u have it
Bro that bank of clouds over your left shoulder in the intro was B A. Had to stop 1:45 in to say that. Good one so far!
I saw that maxscent work in a giant tank with 50 bass they wouldn't eat anything and then the flatworm went in and a giant swam from the other end 30ft away and ate it. Its incredible
I believe it. its some pretty stinky stuff that the fish really like
Trust me your not the only one who needs to work on their off shore game. I'm a FL guy so I'm REALLY drawn to the bank haha
Awesome video helps me with my fishing but I'm trying out kayak fishing but hope all is well and tight lines
Caught one of those on a crank bait during spring time at berryessa too.. I thought it was a decent smallie or spotted..
Forward facing sonar and spot lock trolling motor for 2022 will bring you to the next level of offshore fishing.
you bout to start slayin those tournaments
Great video! Thanks for sharing

I’m only 2 min in, and i gotta say how proud i am of you for expanding your skills in this way!!
You accomplished your goal of finding and catching fish deep. Those MaxScent flatworms are hard to come by.
Where I fish those fish on the first couple of graph pics would be lake trout or carp ... depending on the lake.
