I wish more documentaries would talk about how after Arthur died HenryVII kept Katherine of Aragon basically prisoner until her parents paid her dowry. She was not treated well at all until Henry VII died and then she married Henry VIII and we all know how that ended. She showed so much strength in not bending to Henry and Anne, right up to the end. She deserved better.
Katherine's parents were Ferdinand and Isabella of Spanish Inquisition fame. Maybe what happened to their daughter princess Katherine was a measure for measure consequence of all the harm they had done to Spanish Jews and Muslims?!
According to this series Henry had it beaten into his head by his father Henry VII when he was a child the importance of having a male heir. In English History Queens often ended up leading the country into civil war: th-cam.com/play/PLD2ltPK-5clGJJ2oCpcGOhlaivj3Ybw0g.html&si=iJEE1EXEGxY_oOx4
This is an informative documentary. Thank you for posting it. Good work. Note: The woman labeled as Owen Emmerson at 14:36 is probably Elizabeth Norton and the man labeled as Elizabeth Norton at 15:00 is probably Owen Emmerson. Thanks for the info.
I am puzzled that Anne Boleyn gets more compassion than Catherine of Aragon who stood by this crazy monster and just bc she couldt give him a son she was banned, humiliated. Really puzzles me. She had her fate coming. She wanted to be queen so badly and she didnt care who suffered for it. A pattern that can be found too nowadays. Women doing this to other women. She didnt deserve that ending. But still remains the fact that she took what wasnt rightfully hers. My compassion is very little therefore....
We don’t know how many choices were Anne’s own versus those of a social climbing family and a crazy narcissist with absolute power. All of his wives were victims, let’s just leave it at that.
I sympathize with both. Anne never wanted to be queen. She tried to keep her distance from Henry VIII and just didn't want to be like one of his mistresses. Her family pushed her into the arms of the king and she couldn't say no. Anne Boleyn didn't have much of a choice. King Henry VIII was the main culprit, and it wasn't all her fault.
If I had to give my best hypothesis, based on my observation from my research I think it’s because people so badly want Ann Boleyn and Queen Elizabeth 1st to be the same person if you know what I mean
Anne B saw henry impregnating her older sister with 2 children who were considered bastards. Once henry decided he wanted her- she knew he would have his way one way or another.she HAD to give into him & so for the children she might bare in the future, she held out to be his wife. Anne was nothing of what you say. Have you ever read her letters? She is intelligent, articulate, humble & a devoted Christian. Not the Anne b depicted in movies.
If you marry your brother's wife, you won't have any kids with her. Its a Christian law in the Bible. It's like a curse that will be placed on that relationship.
Honestly i dont think he was that happy he got a boy i mean he got a boy with Katherine who dies months later so he was still holding his breath probably
It seems like he enjoyed intelligent women. Catherine of Aragon, Anne Boylyn, Anne of Cleves, and Catherine Parr. Seymour and Howard were not highly educated.
great video! really enjoyed the depth of information provided. however, i have to say, while Anne Boleyn is often portrayed as a tragic figure, i think she was actually quite manipulative in her rise to power. it raises the question of how we define strength in historical figures, doesn’t it?

That's her parents fault, they cared more about the money than her freedom. They legally owed the debt
Your right
It goes into more detail in documentaries about Queen Catherine , these ones have to let out details to fit all the queens
That's nonsense lol
Katherine's parents were Ferdinand and Isabella of Spanish Inquisition fame. Maybe what happened to their daughter princess Katherine was a measure for measure consequence of all the harm they had done to Spanish Jews and Muslims?!
The irony of it all, Henry was succeeded by a woman. Something which he dreaded the most, he divorced Catherine for fear of such possibility.
That's not true. He's the one who added Elizabeth and Mary back into the line of succession.
@@mrsx7944i think he did that because he never thought they would be king since he had a son

36:09 I swear that is Benedict Cumberbatch 😂
Oh lord i forgot he played that role because it is lol He played the 1st husband of Mary Boleyn in the movie The Other Boleyn girl.
Yep. It's a scene from the other Boleyn girl, where he played William Carey.
Fun Fact: After the death of Queen Jane it was very hard to find another royal woman to merry Henry because they all kept rejecting him
That's nonsense
You literally just made that up. Women didn't choose or reject their spouses. They were arranged by their families. Especially royal women.
marry
@@mrsx7944 no actually it’s true, its in all of the documentaries. You can even look up videos of the women who rejected Henry

Pretty sure that isn't Dr. Norton @ 15:02. 😂
my fav documentory of the six wives!!
TOO loud music
Decent Documentary. Odd that the narrator has a weird echo, whereas guest speakers don't necessarily have that
Catherine of Aragon had strawberry blonde hair and beautiful blue eyes ! Very much unlike Anne boleyn who has dark hair and eyes . 👀

And no one looks attractive. Not sure why they can't get their faces right.

So sad ann tried and Katherine was a ideal queen. And how important men were then compared to today. Where men are disregarded by women
I doubt you would have looked back on those times so fondly if you were a woman living in them. Surely you cannot be that dense could you?
God, this is so boring….. awful
u have to be rlly intrested in this to make it not boring 😭😭
