I love the concept of a Sea Turtle fighting against machines that polluted and turn every sea creatures into a militaristic machines. It sounds so cool, yet depressing.

Even though it's spelled "Ecco", I always pronounced it "Echo" because dolphins use echolocation. Then again, it came out when I was about 10, so that might have also affected my pronunciation.

another childhood ecco player here!. I started with Tides of Time and was really good at it. Eventually got the first game and wasn't so good lol. Loved the Dreamcast game too!

you know talking about underwater games, i think the difference between games that swim and games that live in the water is that the team can dedicate to making all the underwater stuff work good if thats more then 85% of the content where as a game where u swim maybe 10% of the time it just needs to work and not throw you into the back rooms

If a game is an underwater one, the engine and the game itself are built to function in this kind of condition.
If it's a platform game with an underwater stage, oh boy... It needs to be carefully designed and executed to be a good stage.
Turtles are such badass creatures. Their first moments in life is literally reverse D-day.

Only saw Land Before Time 1. Blows my mind that they made that many sequels on a non-princess movie.
I think this is a game that deserves an expansion. It felt unfinished but in a way that made me want a more complete product. Which, for game jam entries is the best feeling to leave in a player/watcher. I hope the devs keep working on it and I look forward to seeing what they do next.

Something about the movement just looks really good. Perfectly floaty for an underwater turtle body horror game.

I played Ecco the Dolphin when I was a kid but could never get that far due to not having any patience to figure out some of the puzzles. Might try it again someday since it is fun to play.
Same but then again I tried playing when I bought a 💿 of "old school" games for my daughter and I STILL couldn't or didn't have the patience.
That's probably why I prefer to watch more games than play them.

That dolphin game on sega ecco is pronounced like ehk-co like the sound that echos down a long hallway. Its in reference to them using sound as sonar. I remember playing that game as a 10 year old kid. It was a groundbreaking game for the time.
I swim with sea turtles at night all the time here in Hawaii.

@@tomaszdroszkowski9869 I don't really care particularly. I just figured I'd post that little tidbit here. Apparently, when they're inactive, they can go around two hours without breathing.
They're really fascinating and beautiful animals and they can move incredibly fast, especially when they're young. Interestingly, in my experience, they seem to sleep in the same places, although I'm not sure if that is factual. I like to go visit the three of them that are in the cove I go jump in around midnight after I work up a sweat from late night jogging.
Oh, also, another fact: multiple times, explorers tried to bring them back on their ships with them, but apparently, they taste so delicious, that they never made them back. Of course, here in Hawaii, it would be punishable by law to harm one.
*shrugs* If you're not interested, that's cool. I like learning new and random things and so I like to return the favor to others who are, too.

The pollution part of the game reminds me of this webtoon called Trashmaid i believe. It's about a mermaid who lives in a polluted ocean, wearing a plastic bag as a top and getting addicted to cigarette nicotine
This got me thinking, how will the evolution treat the aquatic animals to make them survive more pollution in the ocean, will they eventually become horrible creatures that lurk the depths of the sea and the upper part will be a almost empty wasteland with a few plants.

I remember renting Ec(h?)o the Dolphin when I was a kid. I wanted to love it, but I _hated_ it. I think I may have been too young to really get what was going on or understand what I was supposed to do, but I remember feeling a little depressed when I played it, probably b/c I wasn't good at managing the dolphin's air. As I got older, I had no desire to give it another try, lol.

I played a little bit of the 3D Ecco game at a babysitter's after school when I was a kid. I remember being afraid of some cave level, but I'd love to properly play through the game sometime. This game definitely reminds me of what I remember about it.

As far as I know, its “Eh-Ko”, as in a sound that bounces of something and repeats back to you. I think it has to do with dolphins using echolocation.
The turtle kinda reminds me of the game called Turtle Bay, where you have water jet on back of your turtle and a gun that shoots

A pretty depressing twist at the end. Well, the beginning was depressing too. Eco-horror including nuclear waste gives rise to our hero, wearing a depth gauge, I think. I liked the visuals and the music was great.

Echo the Dolphin, scared me as a child. It was super quiet and you needed air, and the atmosphere was scary.
Also, it was telling the story of polluted waters. It scared me. Like ferngully, ponyo, coraline, and The last Unicorn. Scary stuff.

This reminds me of the second ECCO game that was 3D. One of the 'timelines' was humanity took over and turned dolphins into slaves.

Its Echo as in Echolocation. Since the Dolphin you play as in the game was named after the mechanic they where trying to base one of your abilities in the game with. Since Echo would send out sound waves for communication as well as effecting the few things you could effect in the game with it. ( This was from the devs, not just me using logic alone. )
It's nice of the ocean to have grilled these shrimps just for me!
