Perfectly timed! I just purchased my first pair of wide leg jeans with the same sized front pockets. I was just about to do this. So nice to have the guess work all done! 🙌
I never realized that this is the usual for women’s pants. I have always purchased men’s pants because of my height. Pink inequity in clothing. In any case, I just discovered women’s Duluth trading company jeans have very long pockets. Hallelujah !
It's great that you found a solution that works for you! It's frustrating when clothing options don't cater to everyone's needs, but it's always a win when you discover a brand that does.
I would gone closer to the side seam. Your phone got caught on the little ledge that was created. When I extended my pocket, I made it so the extension went over to the side seam. I stitched it to the seam itself for a seamless interior experience.
Awesome tutorial. Wanted to expand my pockets in preparation for an Italy trip (to hold my camera and phone in the same pocket and maybe deter pick pockets). This helped a lot!
Ask and ye shall receive, lol! I don't think I've seen anyone address this and we've ALL had it happen before. Tiny pockets in anyone's pants are just dumb. Why bother?
Decorative welt pockets on the back of pants drive me crazy, too. I've often thought of searching for a tutorial to add pockets. Not as simple I'm sure.
Ah, those sneaky decorative pockets! They're like the unicorns of the pants world. Searching for a tutorial might just be the magical solution you need!
@@SewAnastasia I must be using poor keywords. I found tons of videos on sewing welt pockets from scratch (including yours) but none to convert a decorative one to a functional one. I guess the answer to that is no more Old Navy shorts. Now I can extend all of their skimpy front pockets though.🙌
Yeah you missed the part where I didn’t want to seam rip open the leg of my pants. You totally can. I was just giving you a “hack” an easier way to do it.

Cutting the bottom (the fold) of the new pocket makes it so you can sew the extension on easier. Leaving it folded means you’ll have to hand sew the extension to the existing pocket.
What kind of fabric, or thickness of fabric, do you (or anybody else) recommend for the pockets? Cause I don’t want to use thick fabric or fabric that will irritate the skin.
@@AfricanMagma Sewing over pins damages your sewing needle by ruining the tip of it & then you risk it damaging your fabric. Plus over time it will make the sewing needle crooked giving you uneven stitches. You really should not sew over the pins. You also risk breaking your needle.

What do we want? Pockets! When do we want them? Now! 😁
Thanks for helping us out, Anastasia. 🙏
Welcome 🤗 happy sewing!
Thank you so much for these instructions! I have done 7 pairs of jeans!!

That is should be easy to do, thank you.
Totally

Totally like just sew them shut & leave them decorative. Hopefully you try it out. Let me know how it goes.
I refuse to buy pants without front pockets anymore. Back pockets are becoming essential as well.
would I be able to machine wash and dry the pants if i do this?

I need this
woohoo
Do we have to have that gap in the seam? Is there a reason you kept it away from the seam, did I miss that?😊

What sewing machine is that
If so, can it sew denim ?
It can sew denim. It is the designer Epic 2

You could just use a zig-zag stitch or fake overlock stitch instead.
I can’t figure out why the bottom was cut open ? Wouldn’t the folded material be stronger as the bottom of the pocket than a seam?
To make it longer

How do you add a pocket to a make belive front pocket in jeans..
Cut it open and add a pocket.
Tip: you can sew right over the needles and put them away afterwards

Mens jeans have small pockets too.
What is the world coming too!!! lol
What is the name and dimensions of your hip curve ruler??
I am not sure right now.

Oh that’s great to know they have big pockets! Thank you for sharing :)
