Topper not that bad it should be 300 bucks tops no 1k
Yeah... if we were going with $500 BK:SoR topper fairly being $600 with +20% inflation... this feels like "plastic and LEDs" stuff should be $300-350.. I would have considered Foo Fighters topper for $650-ish... so it being $2000 made the decision easy.
at $300 it would at least be acceptable but still overpriced lol
Yeah $150 is the max i'd be willing too pay for this piece of plastic lit with a couple of aliexpress led strips. Anything above that price is way too much 😁
It's a Fucking Piece of backlit Cardboard for $1,000! I'm in the wrong business! It couldn't cost Stern more than $50 to make the fucking thing!

Commented the same thing and amount! 😂 Stern turning into EA Sports of gaming. The passion and creativity is not felt in these new machines. License and art slapped on a playfield they have next on the line.

Now the foo fighters topper I’d pay $1000 for even though it’s steep not no $2000 & this looks like a topper from a yard sale 😢 not even worth $200. But agree Cardy think they expect us to throw money on whatever they put out
Not a bad topper, overpriced as everything is in pinball. It will sell out, which is all that matters for Stern.
Stern has gotten lazy and over priced. There last 3 machines have been duds, wick, jaws and venom. Im actually looking at Elton John for my next pin and i never thought i would buy a JJP
Toys story & godfather both deflated in value too. But I personally think they are both good games. EJ not my favorite them but it’s pretty good too. Steve Richie makes great games although Led Zep could have been better if he wasn’t limited..
They should've had a model of the shark taking a bit out of the boat for a topper.

The last time I saw something “lenticular” was literally in a box of Peanut Butter Cap’n Crunch when I was a kid. I was shocked to see they still _made_ stuff outta that.
Come on we know what this is. This is about maximizing margin and how do you that? By creating something like this. The very base minimum and likely unlock a game mode with it. Stern has gotten lazy and why shouldn't they be lazy? The create it and people buy it. They will sell out of this topper just like all their other trash toppers. And they'll keep making stuff like this because people will keep buying it.
BK, Rush and Mando are pretty good toppers. Elvira could have been better. Bond was alright
I don’t find the value In toppers as it relates to the prices. I pass on all unless they ever make one for under $500.

I bought a Jaws decoration for $100 at a comic con last weekend....it's better than this.
I would say this was the most disappointing topper ever made.
$1,000 is just insane for any topper. Even the best ones out there shouldn't be near that much. A couple hundred bucks at most.

This is Jaws, freaking Jaws. Of all properties you'd think this would get some special treatment. I can't imagine how badly they are going to phone it in for Wick.
I don't care about toppers, never have...if i had a Jaws, I would probably just stick a giant stuffed shark on top.
The main thing you’re paying for with this topper is all of the lighting/rgb integration which they are obviously overcharging for. I may get it, but really it should be $500 and that even seems slightly expensive.
I think its a cool topper. But the price should be $250 at the most.

I do think the topper complements the machine. But it’s just a decoration not worth what they’re charging. A shoebox diorama is comparable to what this topper can do.
Toppers. I can take them or leave them. I do agree with the Black Knight topper, my favorite for sure. As far as Jaws, which I love playing, The topper should be much more in my opinion. You telling me you can't have a big ass shark up there showing his teeth? C'mon man. People be breaking out their 3D printers and making their own.
A backlit crayon coloring by a 10 year old would be better than this.

Lol. So I ordered it yesterday. And I don't like toppers overall. But Jaws is my only LE. And the 1st thing I told my wife yesterday was, at least it isn't $2000. I would have preferred $500 and it looks like it's worth $250. But it be what it be. I actually kinda like it but $1000 it does seem laughable. But by God, when you see it in person!!!!

I got the BK topper way back when for $500. It’s the only Stern topper I have. I would never have paid the new price. I’d love to get the one for Elvira, but not for $1k. Can I afford it? Probably, but when I want to get overcharged I’ll go to Disney World. Otherwise, if I want a topper, I usually go to Tilttopper. Despite the long wait, he makes a great product.

I think this is just topper 1. Knapp posted that there were 2 coming. I even saw an option for shark attack topper in a manual someone posted on pinside. I thought this was pretty early. Maybe the other one comes out with the 50th anniversary next year?

I’m a fan of the film, huge fan. And as a guy who was in my local distributors store the other day trying to decide on a new pin with my wife, Jaws was not a pick. It was ok, play on location ok.
This topper , is licensed from the film as Amity Island is not a real place. The billboard that is the topper is seen in the film. I’m certain this is a license issue. That being said, I’m guilty. If I had a jaws, id want the topper
I’m a pretty big fan of the film so I got the LE, it really is a great game, I’m surprised you don’t want it. It really shines when you can hear all of the music and sounds too.

I thought the girls face on the topper looked like the girl from the exorcist.. maybe it's the lenticular portion making it look weird . But an LCD screen there playing clips or showing the sign would've been much bwtter
When I saw it 'turn red' in the video... I didn't pay enough attention. I thought it was a video on a LCD panel... I was wrong...

No, fans can always do it better for cheaper. They don't have to pay licensing and go through licensor approval. OEM companies are looking to make a much higher margin than a fan seller will settle for.
What if $tern knows this? Why bother put in the effort, time, materials, etc. when other people will do the work for them? That's the disappointing part. I know they can do better, but it seems like they aren't even trying now.

I’m at the 9m mark. Licensor relationships is a partnership. Not sure of Sterns deal, but could be 10% to 30% of wholesale or MSRP.
Not defending Stern, just saying it probably a percentage + a minimum guarantee. And maybe the topper is only percentage.
Just adding that it’s probably not $50 per topper, or 1M per item, but a profit split.
Ask Jody next time you’re at an event. Pretty sure he will say it’s a percentage split. I asked him, fairly certain he said percentage.

Third party topper would have more value even if it was over priced!
Also, licensor fees are percentage + Minimum Guarantee, and the licensee job is to make them money on every related project to keep the contract renewable.
Stern is like a fast food pinball joint, serving garbage every couple of weeks. I’d rather see them spend more time on quality products than shovel out junk.
I am baffled.. And I can't even imagine the license holder saying no to a nice topper,,, they could have made a freaking shark jump out of the top of the machine with some cheap plastic, and it would still be way better.. problem is that if they sell just a handful of toppers they will be making enough money for it to be worthwhile. apparently pride in your work isn't a factor...
I don't own a Stern but when I saw this topper I was like really that's it. I would never pay that much for a topper that only does that.

Every single Elwin designed game has a mediocre topper at best. No one should be expecting a big wow factor for the topper for his games.
Bond 60th (elwin design) has a decent topper, so does iron maiden
@@loubilly well that Bond topper was designed around the main 007 game, since they were designed side by side. It was hardly Elwin’s topper design.
And the Maiden topper is little more than plastic and lights, it doesn’t do anything special, no wow factor.
I love the pinball fans whose kneejerk response to these thing is “we shouldn’t ask for better.”

I Agree 100%. No topper should be 1000 bucks. I can somehow justify purchasing an amazing topper for 300-500 but at that price I'd rather put that money towards another pin. It doesn't help that their latest toppers are incredibly underwhelming.
You want the extra game code you pay. It should come with hundreds of extra shark fins that will break off during game play. They could have a shark head with a moving jaw. Just like the Black Knight moving head. Moving dragon wings on Game of Thrones..etc. A little electric motor must cost too much. Sad topper agreed.

Honestly, this feels like such a slap in the face. I am apprehensive to ever buy a new Stern again with the way they approach their customers. I’d rather cough up the one-time price of a JJP and get everything at once than to have Stern nickel and dime me to make the game look decent and still end up spending more.
Exactly what I thought when I saw the reveal this morning. I’m not numb to this, so my reaction is wow, they sunk even deeper into ridiculousness!
I think this opens the door even wider now for after market toppers. I always get the manufacturer topper for my games, but if I owned a Jaws, it would be the first time I did not purchase one. I would be more inclined to purchase a topper from electric playground that has the shark chasing a ball around in circles.
They are getting Venom owners ready for 2000 dollar topper.
As if they couldn’t have an ocean effect with a fin going back and forth and a shark popping up then and now!?
I would like to see a topper where its Jaws fin stickin out of the water going back and forth and every once in awhile Jaws pops up just like on the playfield (just not as often)

Never thought they'd be able to one down the Jurassic Park topper. I've been proven wrong. The price should be half of the list price, at the highest.
PS: I may be done with Stern. Punted Deadpool LE, Foo Fighters LE, my Family Guy is about to go (I opened the crate 15 years ago) and I'm now considering saying goodbye to James Bond 60th Anniversary LE and Jurassic Park 30th Anniversary LE.
I'm getting better value from CGC and older Bally/Williams titles.
