Thanks for the video man. I'm trying to do the same thing, I've been doing a full recell though. My issue is that post-recell, the battery pack doesn't provide power and isn't recognized by the system. I heard you say something about the battery controller shutting itself down after the original cells go bad. Do you have any more information on how someone would resolve this? Any information at all appreciated.

The proper way would be to use a tool what updates the eeprom in the battery with new information. I'd come across one, but it's pricey and intended more for repair shops: www.laptopu.ro/ There are some demos of it on TH-cam as well, maybe there are some DIY solutions. There are also a lot of videos saying to short specific pins on the battery to reset the BCM, maybe it's worth it as a last resort, but I'd keep a fire extinguisher handy. Otherwise maybe can come across another "dead" battery with a working BCM

Maybe a little bit of time with a heat gun to loosen up the adhesive.

I replaced the 18650 cells and both of mine working great.

Yeah, that's the best way, with this form factor a working battery is a huge plus. I actually tried this first on my smaller battery, but it ended up not working, not sure if I messed something up, or the BMS just flagged the battery as EOL. I did record it, maybe I'll upload it at some point in the future to at least show the teardown and soldering the tabs.

I had the same issue with one of my batteries too but I have 3 x Vaio UX models the black Vista model like yours and the silver xp model which has the hdd still the black has the original 30GB SSD and dead one for parts. I think some of the battery charging boards go bad. Luckily I have 2 x that work great.

Thank you for this video! Thought my battery was dead, but somehow it’s charging. What model recharger is that for the eventual death of mine?

Thanks, it's a KORAD KA3005D I picked up from Amazon. It got lots of recommendations as a cheap reliable unit on a few forums

I've been trying to revive one of these myself for a while now. Will your unit power on with the AC adapter connected and no battery installed? The behavior I'm trying to troubleshoot is the power and battery lights flashing in tandem when trying to power the machine on, but it never shows any activity. Knowing whether or not this can be attributed to a completely flat battery would be a huge help.

Yes, my vaio will turn on fine without a battery. My first battery that wasn't recoverable was completely flat as well, but would still power on with it installed, though both BIOS or and Windows didn't detect it. I also have a second Vaio UX that wouldn't power up at all due to an internal fault. I only did basic troubleshooting on it so far, there is a fuse under the tape by the power jack

@@jasonnovak2121 Ah if only it as as simple as that, wishful thinking I suppose. I've checked that fuse but it seems good. Gradually I've been working my way through the UL circuitry and probing at the debug connector and pads as they're outlined in factory board repair manual, which I'm happy to share if you haven't found a copy yet.

Sure, I'd come across a 16 page "service manual" that was more just how to disassemble it, it sounds like what you have goes into more details and would be interesting to see @@sogono

Is there a link out there to the factory board repair manual you could post? I’m having the same issue.

@@Bill-ze8bnThis was the best I've found, most parts breakdown and block diagrams, but it sounds like there may be better ones out there with procedures:

I have never come across any indications for laptop batteries actively balancing their cells (monitoring yes, but balancing no). It would certainly explain why they don't generally seem to be lasting terribly long (even if aging of the actual cells would not be helping matters). A 2S wouldn't be too critical but I imagine rechecking can't hurt.

    • @jasonnovak2121

Sure, that may be the case - I assumed balancing would be part of the laptop charging, I've worked with lots of RC lipo batteries and pretty much is standard to have balancing leads on all packs
