If you regret that something does not return, you might sing with more passion about what you are missing. The whole first part is aenemic. The second part is just blowing wind. Compare that with Pampanini, Pavarotti etc. They understand the sentimentality of the song. The acceptance that the worlds changes and we just have to accept it. In the acceptance lies the beauty and the long lifespan of this song.
