We where told 2 weeks ago we had to put our dog down as I could not get 8 thousand dollers together in 2 days. I took him home ive toileted him exercised his legs and loved him back on his feet , we where told he would never walk again. Always listen to your vet but don't ever stop trying and always listen to your own intuitions

I have a Shiba Inu that is currently going through this. Do not put your dog down, they will let you know when they don't have the fight left in them to recover. UNTIL THEN it takes lots of love and REST. Dogs are resilient creatures and have an amazing will to survive. I was told all the same things, he has to either have surgery or be put down. 3 weeks later, he is walking again and getting stronger everyday! Pain meds, antiinflammatories, high protein foods and uc2 collagen help tremendously!! Good luck to all the fur mommies and daddies going through this!!

I don't know what to do and I'm thinking about having him put down... having such a hard time with this... been through Iraq and Afghanistan and I'd sign up for 2 more years of each if I could get him back to normal..

I think this kind of marketing is disgusting to :
    1. Possibly nit be in the area of other pet parents that want help for their babies.
    2. Not even bither to respond to questions.
    3. Bother to offer online training services to pet parents to demonstrate the therapy remotely.
This is not a good look and seems to exploit the distress of others.

My family and I just recently had to put our 3 year old American Akita down bc of this. Her ivdd came on super suddenly. First day she was walking uncoordinated and wouldn’t sit or lay down , took her to the vet and told the vet all her symptoms and the vet just gave meds for pain and gave her her regular yearly shots . Took her home and nothing improved, the next day after she climb the steps lookin for her family and after coming back down her hind legs gave out right in front of me . Barely ate and drank . Crawled into my rotties crate and that’s where she stayed up until Monday morning . Woke up that morning and she was barely moving just looking at us with her beautiful eyes 😢. Everything happened so quick we were all stunned to her condition. Had to drag her out of the crate bc she would not move . She couldn’t move any of her limbs and could barely keep her head up . We couldn’t bare to see our baby girl in that condition, especially since she was a very happy energetic dog . She had lost control of her bowels and was layin in her mess . We don’t know how she had injured herself but this ivdd came quick for my Akita akari and I pray and hope no other dog or cat or pet in general has to go thru what she had to endure. Rip akari I love you baby girl

Please don’t allow your fur babies to jump on or off furniture. I am very serious about this. I have been a pug dad six times with two boys that had IVDD. I’m convinced the first one would’ve been OK had we known to prevent jumping. Their builds are not suited for the impact caused when they land. Trust me.

Did your dog recover? And do you have any tips? My family also has a Shih Tzu who is currently 9 years old. Her disc slipped in the last week of June. We got some medicine from the vet and just stayed at home with her, making sure she rested.
She started to walk better after a week, but then we think she slipped and re-injured herself. She relapsed and got much worse again. We got some stronger steroids from the vet, but she stopped showing much response to the medication.
On top of all that her stomach is very bloated which we don't know if it is a side effect of the steroids, or kidney stones, the vets thought they saw kidney stones on the xrays but are unsure.
After another vet visit last week they told us to take her off the other nerve medicine they prescribed, so they could see if she was wobbling on her feet because of the medicine or not. We took her off and she keeps wobbling. As of yesterday her front legs became very week, she can only take these really small steps and keeps face planting.
We took her to the vet today and they did some tests and they think she has some neurological damage. Her spine where the slipped disc is isn't as tight anymore, so the vet doesn't think it has much to do with the back injury at this point. She's walking in circles and struggling to stand. One of her eyes is dialated and the other isn't. When the vet flipped her paws she only adjusted one right away, the other took longer at times or sometimes she wouldn't flip it at all.
We're not sure what to do next. We opted to wait early on before deciding on the surgery, since we can't really afford the rougly 10k price including MRI scans. But now that it's not neccesarily just the back injury it doesn't seem like the right choice. We've gotten a chiropracter recommendation from a friend, and the vet also brought up accupuncture. At this point it's so hard since she's clearly in pain, and the bills are stacking up. Each vet visit has been over $500 as well as medicine. About 1.5k total for no improvement. :(

I’m literally going through this right now with my French I don’t have the money to get the surgery and the vet sent him home with meds and said keep him the cage so he can heel but they said that can take weeks or months and he’s not peeing or have bowel movements with out assistance. If anyone can please give me suggestions on what I can do he looks so hopeless and I just want him to be able to walk again

Hey guys update on my side . Keep the dog caged and with no exercise for about 3 weeks minimum . Get the vet to give you anti inflammatory and muscle relaxers also sedation pills bc frenchies are too active . Mine started walking again after the 3rd week .

The same thing happened to my Frenchie. The vet said we have three days from today or he’ll never recover and we’ll have to put him down. I really hope he gets better. Is there anything I can do to help with his back limbs??
