      @@Sheitirizinevlogs Not necessarily a Clinical Pharmacy degree, PharmD is an option too. You just have to have at least 5 years of pharmacy education to sit for the FPGEE if you graduated in 2003 or later.

    1. Did you prepare for the test by yourself? Or did you take a course?
    2. If you studied by yourself, what books did you use?
    3. How long did it take you to prepare for the exam?

    Its not easy to get a visa to work as a pharmacy intern in the US. I passed my FPGEE and TOEFL in 2009, but nobody ( I mean the big pharmacy chains ) would grant visa for pharmacy internship to non-US resident during that time, perhaps because US was under "recession". I followed up for three years, but got the same response, so I gave up US and focused on getting a Canadian license as a pharmacist. I'm glad to know that you are able to do it in the US, but you mentioned that you immigrated to US before taking all the tests, so your situation could be different from those that are still in the Philippines. Just a thought and good luck to all kababayans aspiring to become pharmacists in the US. They really pay you well.

Did you have any problems getting this recognized by the NABP? The reason I am asking this, is because in the NABP Bulletin it says that it must be straight 5 year degree. Hello, thank you for the video, it was very informational! I just have a question, if you could please answer. I'm a Filipino that moved here to the US and I'm currently in High School. I was just wondering what steps/school you took in order to become a pharmacist (or earned your pharmacy license in the Philippines)? I don't really know if it would be better to go to a four year university then attend pharmacy school here in the United States or go to a Philippine University to earn a pharmacy degree and just take the steps mentioned in the video to become a Pharmacist in the US. Did you also get a BS degree in the Philippines then went to a pharmacy school or was the pharmacy license kind of "integrated" into your BS? What are your thoughts on this? Thank you so much!!!

    Hi, thank you for making the video! I'm from Japan. I heard that pharmacists are oversaturated in the U.S. now that it's hard for even American pharmacists to find a job there. Is that true? Did you find a job easily after you passed all the tests?

      Hi Nao Okochi, thank you for watching! It depends on the area. In California there are a lot of pharmacists, but that’s also where I live and where I got my job. So I think that it’s not really as saturated as people make it sound. I got hired 3 weeks after I got my RPh license. The one I had difficulty finding was my intern job. Not a lot of pharmacies prefer foreign grad interns.

    Thank you so much for this! It’s very helpful. So I’m doing a 4 year MPharm degree in the Uk which is followed by 1 year pre reg placement working in a pharmacy. So here you graduate after 4 years but get the license only after finishing the 5th year of placement in a community/hospital/industrial pharmacy. I was wondering if that last year would count towards the ‘5 year curriculum’ rule and would that fulfill requirement of the 1st step? Thanks xx

      To help you decide which pathway to choose (PharmD or ClinPharm), let me share with you some facts that I know: I know of at least 20 people from UIC (ClinPharm) who are now practicing RPh’s or interns in the US. From CEU PharmD, I know of 4 people. UIC ClinPharm only takes one year to finish. PharmD takes 2 years but you’ll get a more comprehensive coursework and hospital practicum as well as the privilege of being called a doctor. Note that I mentioned the name of the schools. The reason is because those are the only two schools so far that I personally know have produced graduates that were able to get licensed in the US. Hope this helps.

    • @RozuHime
      @RozuHime  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi Leena Beauty, if you graduated in 2003 or later and your BS Pharmacy program was least 5 years in length, you may be able to take the FPGEE. I’m a BS degree holder myself. You don’t have to be PharmD in order to take the FPGEE. If a PharmD degree is what you want to pursue in the US, there are pharmacy schools here that offer a non-traditional PharmD program where they can admit you into the 2nd year of pharmacy school instead of having you do all 4 years of pharmacy school. One disadvantage is that it may be expensive. Another route is taking the FPGEE first with your BS, get licensed as an RPh, then apply for a post-BS PharmD program. It’s a 2 year-program that some pharmacy schools offer to BS Pharm graduates who want to have a PharmD. This will be less expensive, but one of the requirements is that you have to be an RPh first, which leads us back to step 1, which is taking the FPGEE.

    Hi! I graduated with a BS Pharmacy degree last 2019. Took the boards just recently due to covid and now I’ll be taking Master of Science in Pharmacy degree in UST. My question is would a masteral degree suffice for the additional 1-2 years so I can take the FPGEE and such? or does it really have to be PharmD or Clinphar? I’m also planning to take the Clinical Pharmacy specialization subjects for my MS Pharm degree. I’m planning to work there afterwards more likely in Cali or Vegas.
    Last, would you happen to know any facebook groups I can join that can help me become a pharmacist in the US?

    Hi Rozu and thank you so much for the video and all the help. Is a PharmD necessary in order to do the residency (PHY1/PGY2) and then work as a clinical pharmacist? I have a 5-year MPharm from Europe that should be enough for licensing in the US but not a PharmD and I am only interested in pursuing a clinical pharmacist career.

      @RozuHime  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Αργυρω Διασακου, you can pursue a clinical pharmacist career with just a BPharm, but a PharmD degree is always preferable. For example, if a BPharm and a PharmD graduate were both applying for the same clinical position, the PharmD person would have a higher chance of getting hired.

      Hi Fahmida, thank you! Glad I could help. To answer your question, I think the best thing to do is to contact the NABP directly. There should be an e-mail address on their website. Their requirement is at least 5 years of pharmacy degree if you graduated in 2003 or after. Not sure if Masters in Pharmacy would suffice, but according to the FPGEC bulletin, they treat each scenario on a case by case basis. Best of luck!

    Hi Rose! Thanks for sharing this video, it’s so informative. I’m Cha nga pala, yung wife ni Martin Baquilod, I believe you were blockmates before? I’m also a Thomasian but went on to take up PharmD. Nabasa ko sa comments here na sa independent pharmacy ka nag-intern? Super hirap ba talaga makahanap ng internship site? I already have my FPGEC certificate but I have yet to apply for the license as an intern. Pero two pharmacists na kasi from Walmart and Sam’s club yung nagsabi na hindi daw sila nag-aaccept ng foreign graduates. Huhu.

I applied for FPGEC but there is some deficiency on my case especially for clinical pharmacy part and I am going to ineligible so this case what can fulfill this deficiency, although I am US equivalent to US BS and Master degree by ECE and working in a pharmacy as a certified technician. Any way that you can suggest n recommend plz .

      @RozuHime  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Mahendra, thank you for the kind words. I’m sorry that you did not qualify for the FPGEC. One thing you can consider is going back to school. Some schools, such as Western University in Pomona, CA, offer a non-traditional PharmD program (NTPD) where foreign graduates can enter as sophomore students into their traditional 4-year program, so you’ll only have to do 3 years instead of 4.

      Rozu Hime Thank your response. NTPD can be the alternate option for me but your know this is expensive n time consuming and again I have to go through the same process that’s problem for me. I don’t know what to do next. By the way what can if I go abroad (Outside US) and do 1/2 year course that focus for clinical setting n practice and come back and apply for the FPGEC !?is there any chance or risk or waste of time n money!?what you think?If you don’t mind,could you consider for suggestions

      Mahendra Khadka Yes, another option would be to study outside of US to fulfill the clinical pharmacy requirement. Does your country offer that kind of program? In the Philippines where I graduated, my BS Pharmacy degree was only 4 years long, so I looked for a school that offered 1 extra year of courses that focused on clinical pharmacy.

      My favorite in Narnia is Peter. 💜 No problem, I’m happy to answer. The questions in FPGEE are very random, so I would go over those tables if you had the time, not necessarily memorize them, but understand why they’re contraindicated in pregnancy, for example. FPGEE is different now than when I took it 8 years ago, so I would read the scope of the exam on the FPGEC bulletin. Good luck!

    I’m based in California and I’m wondering if I will do my pharmacist intern hours of 1,500hours can I do the whole 1,500 hours in community pharmacy alone or do I have to do a part of it in a hospital pharmacy. I’m presently employed at the moment in specialty pharmacy which is also considered as an institutional pharmacy setting. I’m confused, please help. I have Another question when you did your intership did you allot some of your hours in a hospital pharmacy? Thank you ever so much.

    • @RozuHime
      @RozuHime  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi Tussilar Centrum, thank you for watching. It has to be a combination of community experience and institutional experience. If your specialty pharmacy is institutional and also serves the community at the same time (i.e. you have customers coming in to the pharmacy), you can complete all your 1500 hours there as it satisfies both the community and institutional settings requirement. When I did my internship, it wasn’t required yet to do both community and institutional, so I did all my hours with a long-term care pharmacy, which is considered institutional. Hope my answer helps. Good luck!

    • @RozuHime

      Hi, yup you don’t need to be a US citizen to become a US pharmacist. Kahit working visa or immigrant visa (permanent resident visa) pwede. Not sure pano nagiging permanent if working visa nagstart.

      Hi Sean, good question. It depends on what job you would like to do in the pharmaceutical industry. If you want to work as a pharmacist and you’re a foreign graduate then you need to do all these steps. If not (i.e. pharmacy technician, etc.) then you don’t have to. Hope that answers your question.

      Hi Martha, thank you for watching my video. To answer your question, the median annual pharmacist salary in the US is $120k. The stress level would depend on the work setting. Working in retail (community pharmacy) is usually the most stressful because it involves dealing with different kinds of customers. 😅

    Hi!! I'm also a foreign pharmacist from the PH now in san francisco working as a tech. im really torn between taking up pharm d here in the US (would mean Student loans) or going back home to take the extra year of clin pharm. What do you think is the best way to get the US RPh license? i see a lot of rph floaters struggling to get hours even before covid so it would really be competitive for a foreign grad too.

    Hi Rozu! Let's say, I can write my fpgee and TOEFL in the USA while I'm on my visitors visa. But what about the internship program how I need to do it, because for foreign graduate to get work permit we need to take any course over there there by then after the completion of that course we get opt work permit visa. How to overcome this?

    • @RozuHime
      @RozuHime  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi SHAIK, thank you for your question. You are correct, you can take the FPGEE and the TOEFL iBT on a visitor’s visa. For the internship you’d have to be on at least a work visa. One way to obtain this is to find a pharmacy that sponsors work visa for their employees.

Have you been discriminated against because you are a foreign graduate? Is the pay different from those who have PharmD degrees?
