Pharmacists in all states must obtain a license to practice. Licensure typically involves completing an accredited Pharm. D. program and passing two licensing examinations: the North American Pharmacist Licensing Exam (NAPLEX) and the Multi-State Pharmacy Jurisprudence Exam (MPJE).
I’ve been getting a lot of messages and comments here and on Facebook asking me what is the process of becoming a pharmacist in US and what it looks like to be a pharmacist, do I prescribe if not then what do I actually do.
Pharmacists: advise other healthcare professionals, including doctors and nurses, on how to choose medicines and use them correctly. ensure that new medicines are safe to use with other medication. advise on dosage and suggest the most appropriate form of medication such as tablet, injection, ointment or inhaler.
If you're foreign graduate you need to take 5 steps to be a registered pharmacist in US.
STEP # 1
Take the FPGEE exam.

I failed 3 times, i lost money to scams and reviews that never helped but the major thing is that I've not lost hope

yeah i had the same enthusiasm... your way of talk signals that the way is too paved for the foreign graduates. As the market gets more and more saturated, the chances of getting hired became less and less. even the graduates of US. schools of pharmacy have been suffering from this fact. I know a US pharmacist who has been working as a floater in Walgreens for more than 8 years although he could build immense knowledge! The numbers of the Egyptian newcomers are unbelievable though! Most of the foreign pharmacists are Egyptian and if the board of pharmacy has to accept all those, the market will become oversaturated, and getting a chance to work would, really, become a dream for us.

Ma'am, There is a change in the requirements for applying for FPGEE exam, they want 5 year of academic curriculum to enroll for it. I did my B.Pharm in India and pursuing M.Pharm now, I want to apply for US Licensure. I only have my B.Pharm registration certificate to applying for next year, so what should I do ????
1. If I will wait for 1 year, then what visa should I apply to get in US
2. Or else any other option for doing the 1 year course there, and applying for licensure!!!

I volunteer at an independent pharmacy. Worked almost 500 hours there, meanwhile I was applying at ALL chain pharmacies and got job at Walgreens.

The board of pharmacy requires certain clinical hours as well. The best way to find the exact requirements is to check the application on ca board of pharmacy website.

You forgot that u have some visa in the us that allows you to work. That's the main thing. No work visa, no placement. Period!

Yes ofcourse you should have work permit or be US resident to practice.

Yes you have to take Toefl first, get your degree evaluated. I did pharm d from Pakistan which was equivalent to pharm b in US. If you have done pharm b you may need to take extra classes to have equivalent degree. Also you need to have work permit to get job in US.

Hello, I did not so Masters. After Pharm-D I took Toefl and fpgee, did intern hours then took NAPLEX and cpje.

You have to apply for work visa. Some employers do sponsor work visa as well.

I am doing my Masters in Pharmaceutical analysis after my B.pharm. Am I eligible take the FPGEE xam ?? Because I heard that students with 4yr B.pharm course after 2003 are not eligible ,I also read that the Masters should be done in Clinical pharmacy branch .Please Help me clr my doubts

FPGEE can be taken only if you have Pharm-D. Masters in clinical pharmacy or pharmacology is a great choice if you'd like to get into hospital setting.

Sounds like a lot of work and time to me. What if my English level is not high enough to get a decent score on TOEFL? What if I´ve been working in the field for 10 years now and I want relocate to the USA and work as a pharmacist? Do I stand any chance to make a living as a pharmacist without the TOEFL.
If you wrote this whole paragraph yourself without the help of a translator you'll probably pass the TOELF

Due to not being able to perform well in exams I’m taking admission in D.Pharm instead of B.pharm after passing 12th grade and I can’t directly go for Pharm.D either 😔
So is it a wise decision that I’m making to do D.Pharm then B.Pharm then Pharm.D and then apply for license in the USA and give the required exams ?Please let me know ?
Also I’m 17 now so by calculating and estimating it will take me 8 years to finally complete my Pharm.D instead of 6 years as I will be doing D.Pharm and B.pharm too .

If licensed pharmacist in California your best bet is to apply for job in Northern Ca because Southern Ca is more saturated for pharmacist jobs.

Most of the Asian students are brilliant but they cannot move on due to toefl requirement. Could you please make video on toefl or explain can it be done easily or much difficult.
According to new requirement you must pass the FPGEE exam first before you can take toefl.

They have done only pharm D study which is 3 year accelerate

Yes. Everyone writes the naplex and mpje, even if you school in the usa
After toefl and fpgee, Are we start working as pharmacy intern or pharmacy intern grad while doing compulsory internship ?
Once you pass toefl , fpgee and get intern license then you can start working as an intern pharmacist.
