I think the reason why they specifically wanted to remake Limbo and not the others it's because Hakita mentioned that Limbo had some problems with how it was visually communicated. Like people didn't understand that the trees were fake cuz the entire game already has a Ps1 look and they also thought the skybox was bugged and not a screen

Not really an opinion on the matter but I think it's super fascinating to see in-development/early access games change their art style as time goes on. I've seen that happen with Roblox games like Isle, JToH, and TDS (loser city over here I know). Something on the scale of an entire act might seem a bit jarring but I think the ULTRAKILL updates have slowly been building up to this with textures gradually becoming higher fidelity (fire being a recent example). I like the idea of ULTRAKILL evolving into different aesthetics especially with how good the Violence layer feels. I believe it's less of a competition to make everything feel "up to date" but more so something that just happens over time and I personally welcome that. Please put the Virtue stained glass textures inside me Victoria please I need it so badly.
I doubt that, in i believe the first dev stream (might have been the charity interview stream i forgor), hakita said that he didnt want every layer to have updated graphics he wanted a natural shift from slightly outdated graphics to more modern graphics, this is so each layer feels new and exciting making new players actually want to keep going and also as a tribute to earlier stages of development. While i would love seeing the older levels get massive glow ups i do think it would kinda ruin the charm to some of the older levels and make newer levels feel not as special
Prelude NEEDS a visual overhaul. There are several points where textures even Z Fight (first one to come to mind is the Cerberus room) Also, imagine how good it would look with the glow from all the lava.
prelude needs more things that would make it look like an abandoned mining facility. Add malfuctioned doors, broken catwalks, anything that would add depth and hints of human presence to the levels, right now it's just a set of rooms that looks like it's built to be played through, especially 0-4 (like, why is there a random room behind a glass window that has no other exits?)
There doesn't need to be a point at which to "stop". Not *every* level in *_perfectly sequential order_* is going to need an equal remake. It can be done wherever necessary. That and Hakita is physically incapable of giving two shits about what we think graphics-wise.

I think everything in act 1 (except prelude) needs a remake. Most of it looks very out of date. As for Greed, it could use a few changes, but nothing super heavy. same with Wrath and Heresy. From their, everything is gonna be new, so no remakes their. In list form, Prelude: Maybe but it looks good still Act 1: Remake Act 2: Slight changes Act 3: It good
I think until the game is truly released, everything/everyone in the game will have changes, like the swordmachine and hideous mass new models, act 1 and act 2, etc

i dont really think this is a problem, hakita can just make more minor changes to the later pre wrath levels in order to make them a bit nicer. i hope we get a settings option or something to revert to original levels as it would be nice for nostalgia and for speedrunners who want to keep working on their times on gameplay affected levels like 1-3.

no one's really mentioning that the code rewrite is happening the same time as the graphical overhaul. my understanding was they chose this time to redo the graphics because they couldn't really work on anything else until the new code was done.
as someone who only started playing like a week ago, with a new player's eyes i think most of the levels look good and i like the visual style/graphics. I found most of the levels way of teaching mechanics was fun and intuitive, and even if i missed things i feel players finding/making different ways to play just makes the game feel more unique and personal
If anything I’m fine with the team going through act 1 and updating visuals to be in line with act 2 and act 3. His team has grown and is able to produce more polished visuals. I think before we get the rest of act 3 we’ll see an overhaul to act 1. Also prelude is getting a visual overhaul
I feel like if they ARE going to touch up the majority of the earlier game it’d probably be smaller changes the farther the game goes, I imagine prelude would get the biggest changes and greed would probably have slight model/texture updates. But you never truly know with this game.

i would kill for a violence remake,or at the very least a mannequin rebalance, things take 10 revolver shots, 10 feedbacker hits, 5 knuckleblaster hits and atleast 2 shots from everything else in v1's arsenal to kill one, and they're a common enemy. did i mention they have the movement predictability comparable to v2?
Aquire skill. They get easy and become just another easy to kill fodder enemy once you get used to their movement. Tip: a single railcannon shot kill them (they have 6 health and rail does 8 damage), and line up more than 1 in a row to remove usually all of them from a room at once. Also, their attacks are really easy to avoid and better yet parry for a free health refill.
i think hakita's plan was to update act 1 overall? and i think that update is gonna come out AFTER they've already gotten all of the revamping figured out
The thing is, they're remaking Limbo just cuz it looks like a genuine PS1 level, which the devs are straying away from. So while this does apply to all of Act 1, and maybe the Prelude, it certainly does not apply to Act 2 and beyond, they aren't all that PS1-ey
Honestly I think the most important thing to keep in mind about the touch ups is that Ultrakill is still in early access. Says so on the Steam page. This is just beta testing a game as it's being made, albeit with some of the highest quality out there. Things are going to change a lot overtime because it's still in a deeply amorphous and malleable state.
I mean, Hakita fixed V2 being damaged with Sawed-On Shotgun's saw, but didn't touch coins or Whiplash damaging V2. So it's a small chance while the game is in Early Access.
I don't think so. Hakita is very in touch with the speedrunners. He's even made changes to help them. He's not going to completely destroy the 1-4 speedrun.
If i'm being honest, the only remakes i would like would be ACT 1, Greed, Wrath, and P-1, Heresy and P-2 already looks good to today's map details (Violence Layer) And also they probably will take a while doing this, i don't mind ACT 3 & other stuff coming later than Summer 2025, as long as it's worth the wait, it's already needed some patience to just an update or news to come out for whatever they will be working on. i kinda agree, but to my knowledge lust is supposed to NOT look like a neon city, but a former one, lust is the city equivalent to a corpse, so it being clean, shiny, and neon wouldn't fit. it's a tragic layer and everything leads to the ideas of destruction, death, and the loss of something once great, being bright would go against the main point of it's aesthetic.

Nah i think youre overreacting, act 2 is already a huge step up from act 1 for visuals so it wouldnt need to be changed and act 3 is just modern hakita so it deffenitly doesnt need reworking. Act 1 wouldnt need to be *fully* reworked since gluttony is just flesh so it doesnt need to be more graphicly impressive just for meat walls to be cooler. However i think youre right about lust layer, especialy for 2-2.
