A G63 (_not_ a big body luxury car) has similar fuel economy, particularly as that rumbustious engine begs to be thrashed. The fun factor is worth the price of admission at the pump, as I imagine that Mulsanne Speed is too, although I wouldn't want to daily-drive it. Weekend toy, anyone (who can afford it)?
The ZF 8 speed is such a marvel of engineering dealing with heavy boats like this with heaps of torque with no shift shock at all while doing snappy shifts. On the flips side this same transmission can be tuned to drive like a DCT in performance applications. It's doing all of this while being bullet proof.
Totally agree. Massively versatile, fits every application from supercars to SUV, so compact sedans. Somehow it performs perfectly for everything it needs to do. Very well done by ZF.
I’d have this over a Maybach S Class any day of the week. It’s such a special car, and I love that even though there are some indications in the interior that VW owns them, it still is very much a traditional Bentley. Absolute baller of a car.
Have daily driven my 2017 Mulsanne Speed 32k+ miles over the past 4+ years I've owned it. It's absolutely delightful and the perfect daily driver/kid car

We drive Bentleys and the thing I love the most about them is how heavy and solid they are. The steering is definitely heavier than all other cars, but it feels like you're actually driving and not sitting in something with artificial feel. I wish our gas prices here in California were that cheap. I filled up two weeks ago for $6.70 a gallon. Premium of course!

Thank you for sharing the experience. I just close my eyes when you turn on the engine to imagine being in your place on the drivers seat of this dream of a car.
In the high lux car world the mulsanne is somewhat of a bargain, you can pick up a ‘16 mulsanne speed like the one in the video with really good miles (like less than 10k) for under 175k, even some of the facelifted ones post-2017 can be found for under 200k, considering it next to the rolls Royce ghost it might even be a bit more car for the money
In my personal opinion, the only issue with this breathtaking and gorgeous car is the engine. As far as I’m concerned, this Bentley makes use of the same V8 that was originally unveiled back in the late 50’s. Basically, it is the same engine that has been updated and updated for the last 6 decades, and it was the reason for which Bentley decided to end its production. Am I right? As always, your POVs are unmatched. Keep up with the great job you’ve done Tedward!
It is interesting you say it wasn't all "Volkswagened out" I spotted a LOT of Audi carryovers. The hood latch that you release is lifted from every single Audi and probably VW. The gauge cluster is just reskinned from the 2012 - 2017 A6/A7, same with the steering wheel controls, climate/seat controls, rear view mirror, and the infotainment is typical Audi MMI. Not knocking the car in fact I think its quite cool its riding on a custom Bentley chassis with a Bentley engine but has that Audi tactile button/knob click + Audi's amazing MMI

$5.19/gallon seems like a really good price compared to Norway(and elsewhere in europe). Currently for 95 octane (91 octane in US) it's $2.59 per liter. That makes it $9.8/gallon 🥲
Love your liking for the rolls and Bentley cars they are something else and even though owned by vw that's where the similarities end they are still hand crafted using the finest components and the greatest care is taken
I drive a low mileage W12 Flying Spur which weighs close to 6000 pounds. My impression is a taut, amazingly light feel on the road, and feeling much shorter than it actually is. My problem was its serenity at speed. Taking a normal right turn was scary at first because I thought I was slowing to 15 mph and was actually still at 40! Having a top speed just short of 200 mph is right down my alley, as cruising at 100 is quiet and effortless. Great video!
Yeah. You said this car wasn't a Volkswagen but I see a lot of Volkswagen\Audi stuff in here. The gear selector, the armrests for the front , the gauges in instruments although they wind opposite to each other. Volkswagen bought Bentley back in '98
great video, it’s funny tho even before bentley was all vw/audi, they were borrowing from them, as you can see whitch the gauge cluster screen straight out the a6/7 and a8, even functions the same
3:46 Aluminium??? What kind of American are you??? Jokes aside, I have seen Mulsanne only once in my life. I was in Dubai and standing at a sidewalk at night besides Dubai mall, and I felt the ground shaking underneath my feet. First I got really scared and thought it is a earthquake, but then I realized that a Mulsanne was idling behind the red light just besides me. It was in light metallic blue color. Later that night I saw a Phantom, what a glorious car, what a glorious night 😁

Correct. And this Bentley doesn’t share a chassis or powertrain with any VW or Audi. It’s the one that slipped through the cracks long beyond the buyout.
6000 lb of conventional Bentley will become a 7500+ lb Bentley hybrid with 20-25 mi of all-electric range, if you intend to keep that 6-3/4 L classic! :)
