I was once on the Original floor clogging in my size two light up shoes 23 April 2005 ot the new Grand Old Opry, Porter Wagoner was the announcer and Earl White played fiddle and Charlie Collins was the guitar player, now how lucky am I. I sure wish there was a small video of this it was around 7:45pm Nashville time! I was so excited to get to meet and shake Former Legendary Porter Wagoner's hand sure! My grandmother's square dance shoes were black instead of white. They were her dress up shoes as long as she could go anywhere. Wish I could have seen Granny square dance!
This looks a lot like square dancing, which we did (tried to do) back in elementary school. 1950s - early 60s. Both of these forms are probably hanging on by a thread. Makes you wonder what other forms of music and dance have disappeared altogether.
The Man on the Guitar,in the Opry Square Dance Band, Mr. Charlie Collins, passed away, a couple weeks ago,at age 78. He was a long-time member of Roy Acuff's Smokey Mountain Boys, and played with Bashful Brother Oswald,after Roy Acuff's death. he was 78.
very nice and I'm sure they were high quality and lasted a long time, does anyone custom make clothes like that today, I would doubt it, would be soo expensive
I used to hang out backstage at the Opry every Friday and Saturday night with my friend Porter Wagoner for a couple years. His bodyguard was my friend and martial arts student and that is how we met and became friends. After the Opry we would go across the street to the Nashville Palace with a couple of the dancers that were a married couple and she was a great fiddle player who got to play it on the Opry too. I won't name them. But, people in the know will know who I am talking about. Today at the Wilson County Fair in Lebanon, Tennessee there is an event called Celebration with Melvin Sloan. It is at 6:45pm on the Opry Stage at the Fiddler's Grove Opry Pavillion. These dancers are incredibly talented. May God bless Melvin Sloan and his family. And, may he rest in peace.

My Mother Ruby Hollingsworth made those outfits. I still remember watching her sitting there sewing those outfits.
