@@danielgardecki1046 Bradford has large corporation shops, charities, gambling & tat. Skipton has plenty of small independent shops selling high quality merchandise & you don't have a 10 mile walk to go between them all. Plus you've less chance of being mugged or accosted by drunks & junkies.

They're all full of charity shops, bargain shops, and independent shops selling stuff only old people want like knitting equipment and ornaments.
Right you need a major reset on your understanding of what has gone on. Don’t forget for near 10 years there was massive hole in the city centre after Westfield pulled out of their planned development during the global financial crisis. During that time other cities flourished while Bradford was left to rot with no real investment and a massive eyesore. That had nothing to do with the council, if anything they were left with that situation. So before you go pointing fingers do your research.
Thank you for another great film on Bradford. I am going to Bradford on 23rd December. I am going on the bus from Leeds. Seeing your film has updated me on the changes to the city centre. I agree I think it looks great. I went in the summer and children were enjoying the water fountains near City Hall. I went up to North Parade and there were bars with seating and tables outside. I sat outside and enjoyed a beer. It was lovely. Looking forward to next summer and another visit to Bradford.
I live in Derry, the first city of culture back in 2013. If I remember correctly, the city got about £250 million for preparations. I have to say though, not much came of it. If you look at Google Maps from 2009, the city looked far nicer back then than it does in 2024. I love this place and there’s a lot of people who do their best to make it a great place to live, but there’s only so much you can do when there’s derelict buildings and decaying shopfronts everywhere you look. With that said, I’ve only been to Bradford a couple of times in my life and just from this video, it looks a lot nicer than I remember it. It does seem like things are on the up for Bradford, and I hope this is the boost it needs to bring it back to its former glory days.
The glory days will never come back... Biggest and best nightclubs - All gone, never to return, as two of the biggest buildings which contained 3 of them plus a large pre-drinks bar have been converted into other things, plus the guy who owns most of the other has kept them closed for the majority of the last 17+ years. They're now spread out, rather than being in one area, and are mainly smaller clubs and bars now. A lot of the flagship shops - Closed - But don't worry, we've kept our flagship shop in Leeds open. Having a hole in the ground for 15+ years killed off most of the big shops and customers. All we've been doing since The Broadway was built is relocating shops we already had, and replacing some of the units they left behind with poor quality shops. And now this - Every build or renovation we do takes longer than the council expected, and costs much much more than the council expected. Then when they're finally complete, they're sat empty for months/years/forever, yet still they insist on building more "offices" which we don't need, as we have 1000s of mills, factories, warehouses, office blocks etc sat empty already. The traffic was bad before the works started. Then The Interchange was closed for most of 2024, while they investigated possible structural problems, but will be reopen early next year. And now all the roads in the city centre are gone, with a new bus lane raking in 100s of 1000s in fines, and more vehicle sized cycle lanes which no-one uses, therefore the traffic is now even more ridiculous than it was before. They just love wasting money on things which no-one asked for, while we're on the brink of bankruptcy, yet things we actually need they ignore.

I think what Bradford is doing is a good thing. It’s trying to model itself after cities in Europe like Eindhoven. Admittedly we’re not as flat as that city but for too long cities in the UK have pandered to the car driver and so the vision for the 15 minute city that will drive cleaner air and more cafe culture is something I fully support. People forget that Bradford was a major casualty of the global financial crisis which resulted in a massive hole in the centre for nearly 10 years. Recovering from that will take a long time and finally investment is being put into the centre. Regardless of what people think, decisions have been made that they can’t go back on and I for one hope the dregs in the centre and the run down 1970s buildings are pulled down and a new open air walking city centre with nice outdoor spaces and a cafe culture will drive more people living into the centre which will in turn create more shops and restaurants for these people. Too many people are quick to criticise and totally offer no alternative view of what they would have done when faced with the challenges that this city has faced.
Looks nice it looks like what there done to our town centre nearly, I'm in Barnsley and our cafés and puds have chairs and tables outside there like put a fence around them maybe I'll take some pics and show you on group tomorrow.

How are the elderly and disabled supposed to get around the city centre without bus or taxi access I for one couldn't walk that far without seating I will never visit my home city again as the council planners have abandoned me and older generations. It was the buses and the footfall they created that kept the shops alive without them it will be a ghost town like the top of town.
The buses and taxis ferry you from shop to shop? What are you talking about. If you are that bad, get an electric mobility scooter and stop whinging about it. At least it'll be easier to use now it's all pedestrianised. How about you look for a solution instead of whinging.
You have to pay for mobility scooters out of your own money a disability means no one will employ you so no money .one day you will be old or disabled out of the blue then I suspect your rude attitude would quickly change

How is he supposed to provide proof on corruption? Any council engaging in that will cover their tracks as best they can obviously. That does not mean Darren is incorrect on this, or that his intuition is wrong etc. Wherever there is a lot of money sloshing around, there will ALWAYS be corruption present. No it’s not. People like shopping and eating in nice car-free areas. Other cities in Europe which have pedestrianised areas have seen increases in people using the local shops.
And only those that are 10 years old fail to understand total pedestrianisation often see’s a town die. They will just drive to out of town centres that become more accessible.

How are the elderly and disabled supposed to get around the city centre without bus or taxi access I for one couldn't walk that far without seating I will never visit my home city again as the council planners have abandoned me and older generations. It was the buses and the footfall they created that kept the shops alive without them it will be a ghost town like the top of town.
The buses and taxis ferry you from shop to shop? What are you talking about. If you are that bad, get an electric mobility scooter and stop whinging about it. At least it'll be easier to use now it's all pedestrianised. How about you look for a solution instead of whinging.
You have to pay for mobility scooters out of your own money a disability means no one will employ you so no money .one day you will be old or disabled out of the blue then I suspect your rude attitude would quickly change

How is he supposed to provide proof on corruption? Any council engaging in that will cover their tracks as best they can obviously. That does not mean Darren is incorrect on this, or that his intuition is wrong etc. Wherever there is a lot of money sloshing around, there will ALWAYS be corruption present. No it’s not. People like shopping and eating in nice car-free areas. Other cities in Europe which have pedestrianised areas have seen increases in people using the local shops.
The car isn't the star, it's been an absolute disaster, and only the lazy can't accept it for what it is....
And only those that are 10 years old fail to understand total pedestrianisation often see’s a town die. They will just drive to out of town centres that become more accessible.
