American Gigolo does feel longer than it needs to be. I tried to watch the movie once, but I didn't finish it because it was more of a slow paced film than I thought.
I think edgy comedy can work these days but it depends on who is behind it. Maybe it wouldn’t be in the same vein as South Park but Matt Stone and Trey Parker are kind of in a league of their own when it comes to their brand of humor.

I regret not catching it in the cinema back in the day as that would have been a riot 😂 It's a real shame, but I agree with your points on comedy here in 2024 having to be diluted... from back then, some lines would prob be classified as 'hate crimes' or 'hate speech' these days. That & all the 'woke' stuff flooding the media these days is just political correctness gone mad!
I agree that comedy can be meant to offend and when you are afraid to do that it will usually mean that it will not be funny. If you are not offending someone then you probably aren’t doing something right. Recently grabbed Blazing Saddles on blu-ray and it is very funny but would certainly offend someone today and that is ok cause not everything should be liked by everyone either. Issue is the studios trying to not offend and probably not even the creators. Both South Park and Team America are very funny films - may pick them up eventually but will probably wait for them to drop in price. I liked Ghostbusters Afterlife but did not love it, so for that reason Frozen Empire is a film to stream for me and not buy it.

We haven't had any good comedies since that streak of films Ben Stiller did. No one laughs anymore. Everything is offensive. That is a problem.
