I'll summarise to save you an hour.
    1. Eat most at brekkie and lunch and very little for dinner
    2. Avoid 5 bad whites - sugar, flour, salt, milk and white rice
    3. Drink more water, but don't drink for 1-1.5 hrs after eating so you dont dilute digestive acids
    4. 3 foods to keep you satiated - fibre, protein and fat
    5. Plant proteins vs animal proteins - burns cleaner
    6. Good fats - coconut and olive oil. Bad oils (altered) derived from high heat processing from hard seeds (peanut, sunflower, soy)
    7. Exercise interval training. 30 seconds high intensity, 90 seconds recovery and 6 cycles = 15 mins per day. Recovery time liver cleans up lactic acid.

I took three semesters of Nutrition from a Tier One university in the 1980s. I was taught the high carb low to no fat diet was the healthy diet to prevent disease and lose weight. The US Government and every dietitian promoted such eating. So I ate that way and lost my gallbladder. And I gained weight. It was a crime what the “authorities” on nutrition did to us all.

It's so upsetting to witness those same authorities demonizing the ones that share the truth!

But what were you eating exactly?

Classic Medical Industrial Complex protocol. And one of the sad things is these dieticians really sincerely believe the high carb/low fat protocol is the way to eat and I really tried - MANY times - to lose weight on these plans. Instead, the hollow feeling of deprivation drove me up the wall and I felt hungry all the time, but eating was a joyless experience. A moderate amount of fat in our diets give satiety and turns off cravings. Limiting/eliminating carbs helped me drop over 60 pounds - twice - but something in my nutritional plan was still missing. I am about to embark on something called "carb cycling", also known as "carb confusion", in which a low carb/moderate fat diet is adhered-to except for planned high-carb snacks or meals. I don't know much about it yet, but the idea is that our bodies get really efficient when we eat the same things all the time and we get stuck on plateaus - going low carb and then eating a high-carb meal kicks the body out of stasis. It's very intriguing and I'm looking forward to learning more!

@@Autumn_SpiritI read somewhere that when you plateau on a diet and eat a carb heavy meal-which could be a plate of pasta or even a chunky candy bar, particularly for an evening meal-that it reactivates or spikes leptin. I’ve seen it happen with myself. Weight loss usually resumes in a day or two. Whether the leptin bit is true or not I can’t say.

You COULD go to settings in upper right of video screen (looks like a wheel with spokes) to adjust the audio speed.
In your case yoy'd want to lower the speed from 'normal' to .75.
This will slow down the individual's speaking rate, with the result that the audio rate will be slowed down, and the listerner will be able to absorp the spoken data more comfortably, & retain it better😊

They only stated that Barbara is not a doctor- which is a fact.
YOU then, inferred that their statement of fact, (she's not a doctor) is implying that (they must mean) she's seldom (or not always) correct.
They never said that! They merely stated that she's not a doctor...in reply to the poster who mistskenly referred to her as

Wonderfully teaching Barbara, God bless you as you teach good eating.
When I was in my late 40’s , I worked a walking route at the post office , I went from a size 16 to a size 8….
A guy friend that was taking biology in college said people are to not exercise past 15 minutes because you lose body tissue..he said walk 25 minutes then rest a long while then go back and walk another 15 minutes …and you start to lose fat again
well this is true cause on my postal route I walked down one sidewalk and up the other side…got in the postal van and took sorted mail and put it in my postal bag and drove to the next street so I was resting…but not long enough cause I lost a lot of tissue , I looked like a skeleton with skin. But it was a 12mile route on foot…so tooo much walking in one day…so I say walk the 15 minutes then rest an hour 4 times a day possibly 2 hours after meals

All very good advice! I used to be a vegan and I almost died so I began eating meat after about 10 years and recovered my health, but now I have a hard time controlling my cravings for carbs and sugar! Through many years when they didn't eat a drop of sugar although I did have carbs so I guess it had the same effect on me. If I could get over that I'm sure my health would improve but Barbara is giving me some motivation and encouragement! Thanks for posting this video.

    • @LenaP1998
      @LenaP1998 ปีที่แล้ว +3

What type of vegan diet where you eating? I try to stick as close to possible to clean vegan eating high starch and I’ll some some seafood here and there. I don’t like any other meat anymore.

    • @Savannah-ed4rv
      @Savannah-ed4rv ปีที่แล้ว +26

@@AnnastasiaTysonSorry I'm just getting back to your question. I ended up with a severe case of chronic fatigue syndrome, which is a really dumb name for a horrible illness. Every system of my body was affected and I was so ill severely fatigue that I could barely get out of bed, I held severe hormone problems severe gut problems um severe depression food sensitivities. If you've ever had the flu it is somewhat similar to that but actually a thousand times worse. When I say almost died it was a feeling that I would die, and there was no way to really describe that feeling. There were also several instances during that time where I wanted to end my life because I was suffering so horribly. The entire time I was doing my best to work full-time as a registered nurse in a hospital. After five years of going to a holistic doctor and taking dozens of supplements a day, I came across a book called the Metabolic Typing Diet, and did the test of their and found out that I was a protein type, at least at that time. I decided after 10 years of literal hell on Earth to go ahead and start eating meat at every meal and some other Foods, and I followed his suggestion meals to the letter and within two weeks it was as if I had never been sick! I found out that meat and possibly other animal products contain a substance called purines which is only found in animal products and for some reason I needed more then another vegetarian might or it's just my genetic makeup that requires a certain amount. Sorry for this long response but I wanted to give more detail because most people don't believe me when I tell them that I almost died.

    • @Savannah-ed4rv
      @Savannah-ed4rv ปีที่แล้ว +3

@@LenaP1998I considered myself a strict vegan which was no animal products at all except maybe occasionally butter and occasionally eggs but did not make eggs a regular part of my diet the. I ate a lot of soy protein in the form of the brand Boca Burgers and I rice occasionally but I didn't focus a lot and combining things every day which could have been part of my mistake, but if you look at my comment to the other person here you will see why I personally need to eat meat. Now that I've been recovered for quite a while, I can go for a few days here and there and not eat meat and not suffer but it's the long-term lack of certain meat nutrition that affects me and I'm sure many other people.

Here are Barbara O’Neill’s weight loss tips, summarized in a point-wise manner:
    1. Reduce Carbohydrates: Focus on a low-carb, high-fiber diet. Limit refined carbohydrates like bread, pasta, and sugar.
    2. Include Healthy Fats: Consume fats like olive oil, coconut oil, and nuts for satiety.
    3. Intermittent Fasting: Implement time-restricted eating, ideally two main meals a day.
    4. High-Intensity Interval Training (HIIT): Perform short bursts of intense exercise followed by recovery.
    5. Drink Water: Ensure adequate hydration with 8-10 glasses of water daily.
    6. Sleep Well: Prioritize proper sleep for better weight regulation.
These strategies collectively help manage weight and improve health.

Great, great podcast - loaded with a wealth of wisdom! Practical steps and a relatively "simple" process to follow - not complicated. All that I need is determination to start and be consistent. Thank you Barbara for all the time you have invested and do invest in sharing your wealth of knowledge and understanding.
Something different I learned that I thought would be worth sharing. Based on current available data, it appears that geaographic region and diet "type" have a little "stonger" impact on potential "weight gain" than time of eating "last meal" of the day - i.e. late afternoon vs. late night. Most people of Spain eat their last meal between 8:00 PM and midnight. Only about 22% of Spanish adults have obesity while 42% of Americans and 67% of Australians suffer with obesity. Regarding average age of death, in Spain it's 82.3 yrs. in America it's 77.3 yrs and in Australia, it's 83.2 yrs.
So, in Spain, part of the reason for eating late is, tradition and geographical/time zone region. Perhaps why Spaniards to some extent are not as affected regarding obesity as many nations due to "eating late", is their type of diet - Mediterranean.

    Eat
    1. Healthy breakfast (high fiber-all plants have fiber)
    2. Healthy fat (nuts, seeds, coconut oil, olive oil; avocado)
    3. Proteins - legumes, nuts, seeds
STOP: white - Sugar, rice, flour, refined salt, cows milk = diabetes
    Bread
    Refined carbs, wheat - bad
Changing times & the foods eaten makes a big difference
Eat more at breakfast & lunch
    Smaller meal at dinner
Eat then sip water 1.5 hours later
    3-4 hours to digest foods
    1 hour rest stomach
    Juice days
    Time restricted eating (intermittent eating)
    Juice days M, W
Reduce carbs, eat more veggies, plant proteins better (legumes soak them well or organic beans but rinse them), eat fats

I made lentil soup for dinner and I even sprouted them first to make them healthier. In the morning I gained weight. Had lentil soup for dinner the next night and again I was heavier in the morning. I became very discouraged and thought I won’t eat the lentils anymore. After seeing this I’ll try to change the time I eat. I usually don’t eat earlier than 11am, closer to 1 or 2 pm. I usually don’t get hungry until then. Then I eat dinner at 6 or 7 but it’s my bigger meal. I know people who are thin and eat more than I do. Maybe I’ll make dinner by 4pm and see if that helps. If at first you don’t succeed, try, try again (and again and again).

I totally agree with her about about animal protein vs plant and the acids they dump in the kidneys and joints. 10 yr study by Boston University Hospital demonstrated that plant and dairy proteins did not cause gout/hyperuricemia flares like animal protein consumption did. I'd switched to 4 sevings of steamed cruciferous and 2 servings of green veggies, unflavored pea protein (at least 30gm worth) and quality evoo w 1/4 of Avocado pureed in 1-1&1/2c bone broth for lunches and/or dinners just heat it up and put in a thermos for work. Greek yogurt whipped with monkfruit with blueberries and strawberries for breakfast or an afternoon or evening snack. I swap out with chocolate chia seed pudding. I have an occasional hard boiled egg every other day and a serving of calves liver(very mild tasting compared to adult) every 3rd Monday. My iron levels are finally in the middle of the normal range. Multiple organ issues I have to dance around and menopause.

I believe things changed when more women entered the workforce starting back in the '60's. The biggest meal became 'dinner' in the evening vs. 'supper' which our grandparents had with the largest meal in the middle of the day. Women had more time to shop & cook then.

I find that to save confusion it's easier to leave the "dinner" word out of it and say Break-fast, Lunch, Supper, then people know which mealtime you're talking about. I only say "Going out to dinner" some of the time when I'm meeting someone/some folk for a meal out in the evening.
