I never figured out why Eng Os were needed in the 11 years I was in and after watching this film my questions were answered. Waste of time and money no value at all.
Part of my Job as a SNCO on Hercs was to get red and green line entries signed off by Eng O's. once I a had discussion with one that involved basic theory of flight , as we had a problem with an aileron. he had no idea, of the basics at all, we ended up having to get a pilot involved before he would sign it off. But there again with his university and officer training he could always use the correct knife and fork in the mess.
