Love the Idyllwild area. Friends grew up there and took us hiking and exploring the area. Lovely time. Very happy you're adding this adventure to share. Enjoy.

I’m almost certain that there are no redwoods or sequoia trees as far south as you are. I believe those large pines you were pointing out were Jeffrey pine. It has a red bark and is endemic to mountains of Southern California.

Those are Douglas Fir. Good call.

Jeffery pines are a hard bark pine. That tree is a soft bark. Without seeing the needles it’s tough. Possibly a Juniper variety. Some get over 50ft. Sequoia’s are a couple hundred miles north.

Only few bears in Mt San Jacinto, cougars, bobcats for sure. The big mountain in the distance is Mt San Gor-go-nee-o.

Super clear day, the view through the valley is epic.
Would love to hear how those Topo’s hold up over time.
I’m pretty much done with Altra’s. The newer the model the faster they fall apart and/or wear out.

They've been holding up well! They now have 140 miles on them now and still feel brand new 😊

They are really hard to find in non-trail towns. I’ve got to track some down. Thanx!!

Whoa, I had no idea there were giant sequoias that far south! TIL there's a grove on Black Mountain!

Nice hike. Hey, on my end, the video quality is only 360p. Is there a way to fix that? My friend (Papa Bear) started his thru hike last Sunday. He's a strong hiker, keep a lookout for him. You can't miss him, he wears bright green. "Bear Trek Adventures" on You Tube. He's a fellow New Englander. We both hiked the AT in 2022.

    It's a tree ok? A cool tree? Yeah. But it's a tree.

And yes your resolution is off in this video. 😢

1 - Somehow the resolution is only in 360p here
2 - It's pronounced "San Gor go nee ohh"
    3 - Great video!

Respect for the 18.8mi. Only 360p resolution? It is ok if that is your device, but if you can film in more resolution it would make the nature real and not feel like abstract art.
