Shermy and Beth are in the future but because the land of ooo look so different in the future Simon simple assumes that it's another alternate universe
And we gotta remember that GolBetty exists outside of time the way Prismo and the other Cosmics do. She must have known somehow that Far Future Ooo with Shermy and Beth was the ideal place for the analogy (and I don't think Beth/Betty is a coincidence, it feels like GB could be speaking through Beth at times, but that's just a wild guess)
@@CinnamonGrrlErin1 I think it's also likely that Betty altered Simon's book herself, as the name on it is turned into strange symbols (as we see the destination on the bus change to in episode 10), and it now tells a story that is an analogy of their time together in order to communicate with Simon. Otherwise, I'm not sure why it would be that way instead of just a future copy of Simon's original book.

But at the end of the finale, you can see her doodling in her book Casper and Nova while Simon shows her his new updated exhibit on the 20th century. Maybe she took inspiration from Simon's new work once she realized he's moved on from his older work and it's a loop where she inspired Simon in the future who then went back to the past and inspired her.

14:25 I agree and I think this is also alluded to by the library being in a giant hole while the original was half buried. What probably happened was the previously buried library was dug up somehow and potentially upgraded. So the giant crater shows a passage of time not a discrepancy. Additionally, I don't think its a huge leap to say that, like with other cosmic entities such as Prismo, time can get potentially weird and non-linear from a mortal pov and that Golb might not be restricted to acting in a strictly linear fashion. I would argue if Prismo can do some time paradox fuckery with his own death along with Finn, Jake and the Finn sword and since Golb seems to be more powerful than Prismo as we see Simon's wish cannot save Betty or seem to affect Golbetty it's not a huge leap in logic to say the Golb is at a similar level or is just stronger than Prismo in terms of reality warping or interaction.
I just think there's a lot more evidence to point to the idea that Simon made an assumption because he's been reality-hopping all day and due to how different everything looked. So he probably just assumed it was a different universe and probably also assumed Shermy and Beth were alternate versions of Finn and Jake as opposed to direct reincarnations.
One thing the Lich didn't understand is that Golb is an entity related to chaos, and you cannot have chaos if everything is dead

Equate: in this case would be to denote entropy as an equivalent concept to order
Entropy: The stability of the universe on a micro scale aka the reactivity of particles in the universe. For example humans converting highly unstable oxygen along with glucose (not as unstable) into C02 (a highly stable and non-reactive molecule) resulting in an overall decrease of the reactivity of the molecules and hence entropy.
Inherently: it’s an adjective so it’s harder to describe, but it basically just denotes a characteristic of the subject it refers to that is a fundamental component of said subject.

THEORY: golb didn’t actually kill the lich. but rewarded him with some kind of messed up lich universe. peep how throughout the show universes have those small weird shapes. i think golb used the lich to form some new sick realm made from the body and soul of the lich
You know, that's actually a good theory. The Lich got his reward, in his own messed up way
My theory is ALL of those pieces, are simply Liches who succeeded. They came before Golb and he "rewarded" them. Because the Lich is machine-like. He HAS no purpose other than killing. So when he effectively kills everything in his universe and has no more purpose, he cannot serve Golb any further so he becomes a tetris piece as a "reward"
I can get why people are a little frustrated by his cubing, but I honestly thought it was an excellent way to wrap up the main Lich arc. He did it, he finally completed his goal of mass destruction and got to meet Golb, yet he was so blinded by his own purpose and hubris that he didn't, or wasn't able to, realize that Golb isn't what he thought it would be.
And yet, we know there's still an infinite number of Lich hands still out there, so he's not completely off the table if there is a future season or more spinoff. Personally though, I would like to see other cosmic antagonists; I really loved The Scarab and seeing how cosmic bureaucracy works.
There actually aren't infinite Liches, there are infact only three, Sweetpea, the original Lich, and Farm world Lich which is where people get confused, Farm world Lich did not duplicate himself, he spread out across the infinite multiverse, this means that each hand is actually the same being sharing the same consciousness, this is what is called being "Omnipresent" but they are ultimately a single being.
Fun fact btw in the transformers series Unicron also has this power of Omnipresence depending on continuity, so another entity who's only purpose is to bring mass death.
@The_Gardara good, that's a lot more convenient lol. I really do like the Lich a lot (especially because of Ron Perlman), but I think the time was right to let his arc end. I want to see other Cosmic villains, or something superbad from the Nightosphere.
it was a good end to the lich, as his eldritch god like feeling is still kept alive via the infinite universes his hand was dropped in. i believe that with the multiverses and all this crap we now have got to see what happens if the lich where to complete his quest and return to golb. now we can see what else he does. his cubing was just answering the question of "what would happen if the lich succeeded" essentially.
i think the lich will always be a reocurring character. hes iconic, and also one of the first huge villain's we got in the series. the lich has been featured time and time again throughout adventure time. however, golb was only really introduced in the finale. so in turn they weren't as much as a prominent character as the lich actually was.

When Betty says to Simon ‘was a great experience’ hits hard. Shows how much she’s grown passed her obsession with Simon.
I believe that the wish Betty made is still in effect. The power to keep Simon safe. While I do think Betty is still in there in a way I don't believe it was Betty chosing to stop Simon but the wish making golb keep Simon safe. From the crown and from the scarab was only doing things to keep him safe.
Do you have reading comp? She literally spoke to Simon through memories. She’s still there, just filled with divine knowledge, getting rid of most her humanity. She still cares, but probably doesn’t have said feelings to go with it. She just remembers that she’s cares about this man deeply, despite probably not feeling it.
It makes sense I'd like to think that the butterfly we saw flying is Betty's reincarnation
I think Betty and Golb are one entity and that Betty is happy with her connection to Golbs knowledge and powers. I think it's pretty clear that she communicated with Simon in his memory
I disagree I think Betty was just telling Simon the truth almost like a confession to wht the reality of it was . I mean she gave her life up and sacrificed just to be with him and when she was in ooo she explained tht to Finn but she just kept on taking a step further cause she loved him and Simon let her. In the alternative reality he realized what he needed to do is let her go from the very beginning but I think she lost her battle with glob she was infused with a god and that’s canon she not going back . When he snapped out of it and said where was she going she turned into Golb and the destination is sent to unknown . She is golb now and this powerful being .
Its not a new universe, you see the girl drawing Casper and Nova in the end and it basically means that Casper and Nova becomes a real published story in the future.
I think it's less that Betty has control over Golb, and more that Betty and Golb have fused into a singular entity.

@@dax9718 I mean, I don't think Golb is really gonna try anything. They only almost wiped everyone out because they were summoned by some idiots who thought they could use their power. Even the Lich only assumed Golb wanted him to end all life, and the second he demanded recognition for it, Golbetty( who, while Betty, is still also Golb) turned that Lich vessel into one of it's floating shapes.

They tried with Finn previously when Finn was escaping the Pillow World, so it's safe to assume that beings with comet essence are interesting to a certain degree to them, was it because of Betty's influence in it?

This was actually one of the first jokes that was just so out of the ordinary for me at the time that I started watching Adventure Time more seriously. Honestly that whole episode was one awesome set up after the next.
7:07 I think each shape is a lich from a different universe that completed their goal and met with them. It showed that they were there before Betty fuses with it. It's also noticeable that there's way more of them than before.
I just assumed that all the shapes around Golb are different versions of The Lich. Maybe there are some others mixed in, but I think that the majority of those shapes are versions of The Lich that succeeded in exterminating all life in their respective universes.
Also, I think it's pretty clear that Shermy and Beth are just in the distant future of Ooo, and Golbetty just zapped Simon's consciousness forward in time. In the little character bios that got released for all the pups, we see that Gibbon has acquired the power of immortality, so there has probably been a significant passage of time between Finn and Jake's time and Shermy and Beth's time. If I had to guess, I would call it at another thousand years after the time period that Adventure Time is set in, just because it would make for a nice, round number and because the events of Adventure Time are all basically forgotten by everyone except for a handful of people who have managed to live that long.
So, basically, BMO, Princess Bubblegum, Marceline, Gibbon, and maybe the Ice Thing would be the only ones alive in Shermy and Beth's time that would still remember anything about the time period of Adventure Time. Gibbon's memory would be of an older Finn, and it would be mostly second-hand knowledge, but I assume he would still know a lot of the stories of his grandpa Jake and great uncle Finn's famous exploits. Plus, you know, I assume that he would have met and spoken with Finn on many occasions, considering the fact that Finn seems to be cycling through hanging out with all of his nieces and nephews following Jake's death. It's unclear how sentient the Ice Thing still is following Gibbon's theft of one of the crown's jewels. So, everyone with any knowledge of the past is dead, intellectually incapacitated (Ice Thing), in exile (PB and Marcy), or is a tyrannical dictator that probably wouldn't like sharing stories about the past that revolve around the magical ancestor of all the future pups (whose magical power he has taken away at birth). BMO is literally the only approachable person with any knowledge of the past, and his memory is notoriously unreliable and BMO, himself, is not likely to be someone that would be taken seriously by anyone even if he was a reliable oral historian.
Oh, and the libraries are in horrible disrepair. I don't know if they might have just fallen into that decrepit state because of the cruel passage of time, but I like to think that Gibbon actually intentionally raided the library and destroyed/ stole as many books as he could in order to control the population.

Could be that those were other scholars of Golb, and this is Golb’s way of ‘rewarding’ the Lich. Like, the other scholars of Golb who successfully got Golb’s favor (or misunderstood what Golb was all about as much as the Lich did, hard to have chaos without life) were also turned into those things.
The world Shermy and Beth live in was 1000+ years from the original series which was shown a glimpse of during the end of Lemonhope and Graybles 1000+
Personally, I don’t think that Simon went to an alternate universe. I think that the reason the name on his book is distorted, is because it was created by Golbetty. She used a cover that looked like the book Simon made to get him to read the book, so she could teach him the lesson about only choosing his options.

Maybe becoming a cube is Golb's twisted way of allowing his "followers" to "follow" him everywhere. Not the reward he wanted because chaos is not predictable nor inherently good. Maybe those cubes are all Golb's followers that were able to successfully summon him, or perhaps they're all multiversal Liche's he rounds up after they successfully cause enough chaos in their respective universe. They're simply 1 piece of the puzzle (literally) that is universal chaos.

I really do believe Shermy and Beth live in future Ooo. And the book isn't the same book as simon's, but a reference to it. In the last episode Astrid is drawing Casper and Nova, so I think she wrote this new story, combining adventure (which Astrid loves) and the story of Simon Petrikov, who's may has become her some sort of teacher, maybe a close friend, or just has some big influence in her writting.
One big question for me though is if it's the REAL end of the Lich. Of course we know there's multiple Lichs across the multiverse, but if Golbetty didn't eat him, just tranformed him in to a block, is it the same thing? Like, is his existence erased forever like Margles? Really don't know.

I know a lot of people were disappointed with ice kings ending in the main series finale. They were disappointed that he was discarded and that we got Simon. They wanted Betty to accept IK as his own person. I think this whole season of Fionna and Cake is a meta commentary on adventure time. Golb goes from a chaos God that kinda enforces the continuity of the show (by destroying pillow world) in a similar way to how the fans violently react to any changes that are too big in the story. Golbetty is then an agent of chaos but in a transformative and generative way, golbetty allows the chaos in the Adventure time universe to open up possibilities for all sorts of stories and mashups that wouldn’t be possible if the fan base is too authoritarian in enforcing things to stay the same. That’s why I think Golbetty canonized Fionnas world, bc we as a fan base grew up and became open to the idea, WE ARE PRISMOS BOSS! or maybe Cartoon Network is but either way I think I’m making my meta point clear

I think Shermy and Beth are in the future. It makes the most sense with the evidence we have from come along with me and grabels. I think the choose your own adventure book is written by the little girl obsessed with Fiona and cake from the Simon Petricav episode. You see her wirting something in the last episode
Plus, people keep forgetting the finn sword above the tree. Fern died and left a seed in the shape of finn sword. And we saw shermy took the sword in the future.

Golb and Betty have somehow, through the power of the Crown, achieved a perfect fusion. Think of the alchemical magnum opus the Rebus. The perfect combination of man and woman in one body. Not 2 separate beings but 1.
Betty does not control Golb and Golb does not control Betty. They are one. Having the memories of Betty and whatever role Golb serves in the natural order of the multiverse. Hence why Golbetty continues to stay in the void but stops Simon from becoming Ice King and the Scarab from killing him.
This is also why Golbetty can never be separated. The Betty part of them has accepted the reality she will never be what she was. Likewise, the Golb part has accepted this new form and continues on with his purpose (whatever that is).
What I don’t understand is the Lich’s role as a Scholar of Golb. We know he began as the Catalyst Comet that rebooted the world. He had the same goal, cause mass death. He then, presumably, took on multiple forms until somehow becoming the big bomb that destroyed the world and turning it to Ooo as we know it. The very essence of the Lich began as destructive. But where did he come from and how did he become a scholar of Golb? Was this truly what Golb would desire? Or was it a delusion of the Scholars to justify their lust for destruction?
We had Distant Lands that wrapped up the Finn and Jake timeline. We have Fionna and Cake that gave a level of closure with Simon and Betty. Now I kind of want a miniseries that explores the Lich, or rather the Scholars of Golb as a whole. Actually the best character to follow is Sweet P. While his own person, we know the Lich is buried deep within Sweet P. Even after 1000 years he remains alive and even wields the Night Sword. Perhaps a series between the Finn and Jake era and the Shermy and Beth era. Where Sweet P, now grown mentally, wants to understand the being he was spawned from and now keeps imprisoned. Understand why he’s so evil. And with nothing better to do, the Lich speaks to him via his dreams. Or something along those lines.
I'm 3 minutes in. You are the best analyst for adventure time. You catch every reference allowing for better deep dives on a scenes meaning. None of the bigger at reviews do this.
Golbetty sent Simon to the future in the body of Shermy, He couldn't send Simon in his own body because that would create a time paradox since he would be already dead+ we see in the end of cheers that Simon starts creating the characters of Nova and Casper, pretty much making Betty teach Simon through his own actions

The Lich was depressed confirmed, he killed everything and didn't get any recognition from Golb. His entire rant towards Golbetty was filled with emotion, the Lich is borderline machine but not one.

you mentioned that perhaps betty fusing with golb caused golb to ignore the lich when he wiped out all life, but i personally disagree. keep in mind that universe had been devoid of life since season 5 of adventure time when the lich made his wish, and betty only fused with golb at the end of the series.
i think the lich was just completely misguided on what golb is and what he does. the lich thought golb was the most powerful being of chaos and destruction in the multiverse and that causing mass death on the scale he did would allow him to commune with golb or something, while in actuality golb seems to just be an exceptionally powerful creature that is mostly minding its own business.
kill all organic life? congrats, golb doesn't care cause the universe itself isn't dead because you're still in it and thus it isn't in a state for golb to eat it. actually successfully manage to kill a universe by removing all conscious life from it? congrats, you gave golb one extra snack to chew on. universes die all the time, so killing one probably doesn't impress him, and that already ignoring the fact golb himself seemed to be an infant prior to fusing with betty and likely still thinks a lot like one, while betty's consciousness cares more about keeping simon safe because that was her wish.
The geometric shapes are all the litch. More specifically the litch that completed his task. To then become the building blocks of the multiverse maintained by Golb-Betty. The litch that is turned into a shape in the episode is the one block needed to attach Fionnas world to become officially apart of the multiverse

I think those Tetris blocks are people/things from actual universes, BECAUSE there from actual universes instead of multiversal temp workers.
Maybe achieving whatever goal they had and reaching Golb had led to their “reward” being Golb/Golbetty not wanting to deal with them, and just going through them one by one. That could also explain why there’s more blocks post-Golbetty, where she doesn’t know how to properly deal with someone who got to her, so just like at any new job, she keeps taking the easiest way out and Tetris-afying everyone.

I think turning people into those shapes is a way golb honors its scholars, so when it turned the lich it was rewarding him. Golb is the embodiment of chaos so I’m fairly sure it can kill anything by just willing it if it so desired. The reason I think Golbetty couldn’t kill Scarab is because it’s a fellow cosmic entity and it seems like either cosmic entities can’t kill eachother or are just extremely hard to kill in general (prime example is glob grod gob grod still being alive after a planet destroying explosion). The way Scarab turned into smaller and multiple versions of himself kinda reminded me of how Golb broke down Finn Simon and Betty to “their most basic forms” during the finale of adventure time, so it seemed to me like Golbetty was at least trying to kill him but his “cosmic anatomy” or whatever you want to call it was too complex for her

Scarab definitely didn't know what Golb was. He likely only recognized her as another Cosmic entity.
Golb is known as a being of chaos and a destroyer of worlds. a person who knows Golb should expect Golb to eat Simon and the world in his head.
Golbetty coul've likely even killed Scarab if she wanted, considering how not even Prismo can bring those killed by it, or at least reduce him to atomnsized bugs.
Scarab might have even a gotten an idea of Golbettys nature seeing how one of the bugs were obviously afraid and ran to Fionna world to escape.

I don't think Gibbon is a bad ruler, yes he has extinguished the pups power at birth. But only within reason that he could fear their powers could become destructive or worse, possible Warren may return to absorb the pups powers and life force.
It’s specifically not the same cover though! And it’s clearly not Simon’s book, I think it’s someone else’s book written specifically about the ice crown, and about two people going to look for it. It would be really weird if Simon’s book about multiple artifacts was somehow converted into a choose your own adventure video game book, no? It’s not the exact same. It’s quite similar, but if it needed to be exactly the same it could easily have been.

Most probably, Betty was disgusted by lich and others scholars, and always when realises they was dangerous and came to Golb, turned them into cubes

This is the second series that I've decided to bingewatch through that the last episode has it been made yet. Unlucky.
I don’t get why everyone assumed that the Lich is just some emotionless robot or force of death incarnate or something. Yeah he was a catalyst comet, but so was Finn, and he’s a regular albeit important guy. I think the Lich being a catalyst comet just meant he’d be the thing that changes the world, a force of evil. That doesn’t mean he’s like representative of like death or anything, that’s just his own goal. And he clearly always had emotions, he enjoyed tormenting various characters. The reason he “shuts down” to me always felt like a reflection of how smart he is. He’s undead, he doesn’t have to move around or do anything to stay as he is. He just stops to bide his time and lull Prismo into a false sense of security. Prismo saying that whole robot thing was always a metaphor, and also not entirely accurate, that’s what the Lich wanted him to think. Let’s not forget, Prismo isn’t infallible, the Lich took his opportunity to kill Old Man Prismo and by extension Prismo himself. Also you know, the whole trouble he got into with Fiona and Cake

When I saw the lich get turned into geometry I just assumed every other geometric shape was another lich that questioned golb

You missed a big detail in episode 10 assuming you still think shermy and Beth are in another universe, you can see the little girl that is always around Simon in the ending montage of episode 10 talking to him and she sketches down Casper and nova meaning either she or Simon make it so it ends up 1000 years later in the future for shermy to read it. Time loop
Betty doesn't necessarily have any control over golb. It's just that the wish she made is ensuring that Simon "stays safe at all costs."

If they ever bring the Lich back again they could make have one alternate universe Lich find a way to universe hop seeking new universes to wipe out not just his own. If this is the end to the Lich's story that'd be good too.
I think I remembered what happened to Jake is in a form of a comic. when he died, He continuously expanding and PB had to be quick and put his dead body onto the massive crater on Earth.

Everyone assumes the lich was destroyed/is being tortured by his new existence. However, i think its possible that this was actually an outcome for those who prove themselves as worthy desciples. Who knows, golb could have given the lich his own universe to destroy over and over within that thing, or something similar.

10:50 this is my personal theory, golbetty is literally a god, she probably let that happen intentionally because she already knows everything , and a proof for that is her sending simon to the future, she knows everything, and can do anything.
Maybe Golb is the Nightmare Chaos version of Prizmo? Where Prizmo makes new versions of realities, that live alongside the ones that already exist, maybe Golb takes aspects/concepts from multiple different realities, or even whole realities themselves, and destroys and reforms them into pieces for a new universe that Golb is creating or trying to create?

I have questions too, like you said, can those cubes be other scholars of Golb? Who's Prismo's, Orbo's and Scarab's boss? Can Orgalorg, Coconteppi, and other cosmic entities be turned into cubes or is it only the ones who are scholars of Golb?
I got a idea what if a green blocks are all the scholars of gob who have succeeded the task, and they have no other purpose

Maybe the jigsaw pieces are exclusively the other scholars of Golb? It may even have been a merciful blessing, in the eyes of Golb. In some sense, the lich could never have fully extinguish all life in the universe, as we know there's an afterlife. His task is impossible, but his ambition and devotion are nearly infinite. Maybe being reduced to an inanimate object is the only way for the Lich to know peace. Maybe every scholar of Golb inevitably meets the same fate, and the Lich was just the last one. ALTERNATIVELY, maybe all of the pieces are the Lich. Whenever a lich succeeds in wiping out the empirical life in their universe, they meet Golb eventually and get turned into a Tetris block. It adds a tragic spin on the Lich character. His mission was always doomed to end in failure.
Imagine you gave up everything for a person and front of you that person is trying to go back.

My exact same reaction to seeing the release
I feel like i have the answer to Golbs shapes, bear with me here right. The Lich's main goal in every reality we have seen is to extinguish all life in his universe and by doing so usually would end up trying to get to Golb to show Golb what he's done (Just as he did in Fionna and Cake). Now what is the Lich's main color? Green. What color is all the shapes around Golb? The same green. I believe these are all Lich's from other realities that achieved extinguishing all life. Which would make sense why Golb seems to have such a nonchalant reaction to the Lich, possibly because he has heard this from the Lich countless times.

Since there is a lich in every universe and he will always exist in one and try to destroy all life what if the shapes around golb is liches from other universes who either completed their task of destroying all life or they questioned golb and got punished?
