I got my 2007 Hyundai Sonata 3.3 v6 for $4500 46k miles, my FIRST CAR and I bought it!!! I love her to death and it’s been about a year since I got it and still no problems now at 57k miles
Picked up one of these a few months ago with 133k miles. I was shocked at how much I like it. Its quick and comfy. We're averaging around 24 mph to boot!
Them lil babies are fast n quick.when I first bought mine,I was like they aimt all that fast but when I test drove it and floored it,I was like dammmmnnnnnn it was quicker then I thought
@@marcalexander6450 we paid $3400 for it. It's still going strong at 150k miles. I put an alternator on it over the summer, but that's all I've had to do to it other than oil changes.
As soon as I figured out how to lower the driver's seat, my life driving this car changed dramatically! I'll have to do a video sometime on how to adjust the seat, it might just be me, but it took me a lot longer than normal to figure how to get this one just right. Lowering the seat frees up a ton of space and makes the car way more comfortable if you're tall!
I have the 3.3 V6 limited edition, and I love it. I’m always winning street drag races against bmw 3 series or big engined pickups. Insanely big trunk size and the interior is so roomyz

I'm a Ford truck man, did construction all my life. I just retired, never really wanted a foreign car. My friend had the 2007 Hyundai, 92,034 miles on it as of March 2022. So I guess it's a low mileage car for it's age. He told me it was a great car, he has to have a truck. It was basically his old lady's car, and I know he takes care if his vehicles. I don't know what there worth, he said give me 2 grand and you can have it. We have worked together and he said he was giving me a good deal, and I trust him. So I gave him the money without even test riding it. I took it home and was actually quite impressed. The car is very smooth and when I got on it, yes it has some balls. For the heck of it I had Autozone read the computer, not one issue. So here I am with a car I wouldn't look twice at, and I'm falling in love with it. It's not a G.T. Mustang, but it will give a stock one a surprise, not saying it would beat it but it wouldn't leave it in the dust. I really hope it lasts. A lot of people tell me they run forever, and this is my first foreign car. So far it has me impressed. I guess I'll find out how long it will last. I will do all the schedule maintenance. Won't beat on it, it is fun to drive. We shall see. Have a great day.
Wow! That is a great deal, especially in this market. Ford guy myself, haha. Owning the sonata really opened my eyes, Hyundai actually tends to be pretty reliable if you maintain & take care of it. My mother in law has the car now and is up to 160k without any issues. Only thing we did to it repair wise was the shocks & struts and a sway bar link, but those wear out in all cars. I've seen sonatas and elantras with well over 200k
We bought 2 of these new in 2008. We still have them. We also have various Saabs and Volvos. About 10 cars in total. The Sonatas have been, by far, the most reliable cars we've ever owned. Both cars are on their original battery. Both cars suffered a failed... sunvisor. We haven't been religious on maintenance, but it doesn't seem to matter, unlike the Saabs which I service at 10,000km.. or else! The Sonatas are quite possibly one of the best cars ever made. (Brakes are amazing compared to a 9-5, for example)

I love my 05 sonata , it's not luxury but it's comfortable , handles amazing in snow , the factory stereo is honestly blah but it's very easily updateble , I've had the car for 2 yrs and it has 125.000 miles and honestly no issues with it yet besides the air bag light which was fixed by disconnecting and reconnecting the wire harness under the driver side seat , other than that I'm averaging 24 miles in the city and around 32 on the highway.

I have a 2006 GLS V6 since new. I don't know how it is different from a SE because it has all the same features as yours. It is holding up really good and the only things that broke down were the water pump, a loose sun visor, and windshield washer spray. I don't have any plan to replace it yet.
Oh nice, I could me mistaken, but the GLS was their more sporty trim package; "grand luxury sport." It's just the upgraded trim level from the SE giving the car more features. How many miles are on your car? I don't feel like it's uncommon to have to replace things like you mentioned as part of regular maintenance. The water pump unfortunately is a little bit of a repair, but I don't believe you have to remove the timing belt to do it. In a shop you'd probably be looking at $270-$380. Nice car!
I have an 09 SE and I love the ride. Not smooth like a Camry but still, not bad for being the stiffer suspension. The seats are awesome! Very quiet interior (which is great for my system although installing it was not easy).
I have the 2009 4 cylinder with a 180000 miles what a great car this is . I love this car will purchase a newer model whenever it stops running . I have been religiously changing the oil every 3,000 miles since I purchased the car .

I just bought a 2008 hyundai sonata. My dad is somewhat sceptical of it. I really like the car and its sound system. Since it would be my first car we bought the 4 cylinder version otherwise the insurance would be very high. We had also looked at a 2006 volvo s40 that had a 2.5i, 5 cylinder, with a turbo which i wanted so badly but it had some problems but honestly i am happy with the sonata and this review made me feel a lot better although not exactly the same. Great choice for a first car! I don't think you'll be disappointed with the Sonata. It's basic, but it still has a good mix of features and is a very comfortable, roomy car. Although we haven't put a ton of miles on ours, I can say it should be fairly reliable when well maintained. The only troubles we've ever had are dealing with the most common problems which are the shocks and struts, and rust underneath. The shocks and struts are easy to replace and somewhat inexpensive if you can do the work yourself. These cars are very rust prone on their undercarriage. If it's not too late, I highly suggest being wary of driving in salty conditions and always keeping the car washed and dry. Always, always change your oil & filter every 5,000miles if using synthetic - yes it seems expensive, but it's easy enough to do in 10-15min and will prolong the life of the car saving you a ton of money in the end. The 4cly may not have as much power as a v6 or a turbo, but your wallet will thank you. That's more money you'll have to put away for your next car! I hope you enjoy it!
i have an 06. Everything he says on this review is spot on. Only complaint is the seat squishes down too low for me. So I sit on a pillow which works fine. Handling and acceleration are noy important to me and this car seems fine in that department. Mine is the 4 cyl and seems pretty peppy to me. I like it so far. Had to order new sun visors as they wouldn't stay up. Small thing but very irritating!
I cant speak for the older generation elantras, but the newer ones, 6th and 7th gen have very good leg room for the driver. I'm 6'3" so leg room is usually #1 when I'm looking for a car and the elantra really surprised me. Most compacts and mid size cars are just instant no-gos for me but I don't even need the seat all the way back, I keep it one notch forward from the back and its perfect. It does make it pretty much impossible for anyone to sit behind me but its so rare I have more than 2 people with me its not a problem. All of that and I average 45ish MPG on the highway which is great for my commute.
I had a 2008 sonata bought with 145k going strong, now has 235k. No major problems whatsoever, except rust. I now have a 2007 Sonata with a V6. It has 190k with no major problems. That v6 engine moves and much more powerful than the four-cylinder. But, the four-cylinder is no slouch.
Great car, powerful and good handling, people try to give Hyundai a bad name but they make some gems for sure 99 elantra wagon, 04 sonata with evo non turbo 4 to name a few I have had besides this and 13 Tucson. Great value for sure, can get these all day for cheap
Agreed 100% I had a bad opinion of Hyundai before owning one... I'd definitely have one again! Great car for the price. I'd even argue they're nicer than a lot of other cars.
I love my 06 sonata I'm 6"1 and with the seats all the way back its still comfortable. I love the radio In the car I use an fm transmitter and the bass is pretty good with the stock sub

I have the exact same car but what I did is , I got the 17 inch wheels 5 spoke that come with the full loaded ones and it made it look much better than the 16's you have,

My 06 has only 36K on it (owned by an older lady who had to stop driving). It turns out right away that the crank shaft pully was coming apart (rubber in between deteriorates) and was about to fall apart. I was lucky a friend noticed the rattle. I had the belt replaced at the same time.
My 06 Sonata v6 has 195500 and runs great. No major work. Only minor. Heated seats still work, ac and heat works perfect. I Gabe leather seats and sunroof ...only downside I only can use cds or radio lol
I have the V6 with 199k miles, had it since 40k. Only 1 major issue- engine had an oil leak into the alternator, cost me $1600 because they had to lift the engine to fix the leak. Paint has really faded/chipping due to not waxing it like I should, probably going to have to sand it and do a Rustoleum paint job. Headlights are faded, impossible to fully restore despite trying and the headlight position is a little too low. I might buy replacement headlight assemblies and make sure they are properly lifted when installing.
I have this car had it since 2016 it’s been a great car. Most of the issues I’ve had was me not taking care of things when I should have other then that this lil sucker runs ! take care of it
I own the Limited version and personally I prefer it over the SE but its got over 180000 miles and she still runs strong only issue I seem to have the most is my passenger light goes out rather often
I had a sonata 3.3, well still do, but it's pretty much busted now and just sits in my yard...I won alot of races with that thang although it was relatively slow.
My dad had a 2008 hyundai Sonata v6, but he sold it in 2010. He got tired of driving that car and did not want to keep it for so long, and it did not have enough power for him. So he traded it for a 2006 saab 93 aero wagon.
I'd actually prefer the 4 just to make it more economical. The v6 is a good motor with more than enough power to be a little fun at times, just burns a lot of fuel. Good cars

I’ve had an 07 with the 4 cylinder going on 2 years now, it was bought new by my grandmother, sold to my aunt, then to me, has had the AC compressor, alternator replaced, other than that, I replaced the struts control arms and valve cover gasket myself and it’s just a beautifully reliable and comfy car to me, gonna keep driving it for a while, it’s got 130k, no rattles on startup, It’s weird owning a car that you can just drive and not really worry about Edit: except for the damn exterior lights! 😂 I’m constantly having to replace bulbs and tweak the brake light sockets to keep them working

i have a 2006 lx sonata top trim level i have carbon inserts from factory and mines making about 400 hp and its all leather i love it i have 258k miles and mines all electric interior but fr being a se 2007 its not bad at all
Guess i got the lemon version .. Was my mothers car .. Tranny went out at 45.000 miles .. Not long after that ..Upper and lower control arm bushings . 3 power windows dont work . Plastic door handles keep breaking off. Now at 145.000 main seal leaks all over the alternator. 2 of those this year. But it is fast..
Shoot! That sounds like a headache. My mother-in-law has our car now & drives it a lot. So far so good, at 165k+, but it just started leaking oil from the valve cover gaskets onto the alternator like you mentioned (pretty common issue with these). I'll be forever surprised at how quick they are for not being designed as a "sporty" car. Not to mention they're just plain nice to drive around.
I just purchased a month ago a 2006 with the 3.3 engine and like it but I can't stand the seat. I kept trying to adjust it farther back and I am 5'7". I figured maybe there is an aftermarket solution to it. the bottom of the seat goes in too far and the top leans forward too much.
I've never looked into an aftermarket option, but the drivers seat really is terrible. Try lowering it with the round knob, that really helped me. We're about the same height, I couldn't imagine being much taller and owning this car...
@@EYVOAuto I am sure many others had the same problem. I wonder if they ever sold a replacement seat that fixes the issue. My 2001 Buick was actually more comfortable and had a power seat. I do think that the car handles well and can fly up steep hills near me with the 3.3 engine. The Regal had a 3.8 and had good power as well but did strain a little on hills I guess since it was a bit bigger. I just needed a car to get to work and the Buick break line broke and it was never going to pass inspection again due to sensors giving issues. The NYC area has strict inspection requirements.
@@EYVOAuto Hello, this past summer I put new tires on the car and was complaining about the seat. My mechanic looked at it and used the manual controls that are smooth shaped. I didn't realize they were the controls and now the seat tilts back and I was able to shift the seat farther back. Apparently the lady who owned it had moved it far forward and made it lean forward. I was quite happy and felt stupid at the same time....
I've seen them with over 250,000miles so they don't seem too bad. Our was in definite need of new valve cover gaskets as they leaked a lot, but other than regular maintenance we never did any repairs to the motor itself. That car now has over 150,000miles still going strong.
I love my 2007 Sonata Limited, however I have found that the suspension is horrible. I have replaced the struts and still it is very rickety and loud over pot holes. Does yours have this same issue?
YES!!! You're absolutely right! The suspension is horrible, I replaced all my shocks and struts in a later video and while it has a brand new feel, it still makes a lot of sketchy noises... Like you said "very rickety," lots of clacks and clatters. Unfortunately, it's just due to terrible design...
Try replacing the upper control arms and ball joints. Checked mine and the ball joints had no grease left which was causing A LOT of rickety sound. You can find both the driver and passenger side on Amazon for $60. Hope this helps!
Thanks for the review mate. One thing though. You mentioned your A8 is 1000 pounds heavier than this Sonata!? Here in Australia, the 2007 Sonata weighs around 1550kg and A8s weigh just shy of 2000kg. How much does your A8 weigh?
@@EYVOAuto i miss features on the last car such as the sunroof, double storage compartments in the middle of the car, lights in convenient places like the front doors or in the glove box. Though I do feel that the newer car will be just as reliable as the old one. Hyundai is a nice brand.

Great review! I just found that it has 226 lb-ft @ 3500 rpm. It has the torque at low RPM, so it built like a truck. It will be helpful if you use it to tow a utility trailer. Most cars have their peak torque around 4500 rpm. It is definitely better than my 2006 Fusion v6, which does not come with stability control, and the back row seats have no adjustable headrests. For the 2009 and 2010 Sonata limited models, they come with infinity 360 watts speaker systems, which is also on my Fusion SEL V6. Those sound systems are fantastic. When it is time to replace my wife's 2002 Camry 4 cycle, I will get the Sonata. The LE Camry we have is pathetic since it does not have rear disk brakes, ABS, Traction Control, Stability Control, and side curtain airbags. The Sonata is the best economical car with the gust. Do you like the driving experience of yours? I love to drive my 2006 Fusion SEL V6, which is sporty, but I do not like to drive 02 Camry, which is soft and floaty.
Thanks! Great comment, very useful information. I haven't towed with any of my cars, but it sounds like the Sonata is very capable. Its quickness never stops surprising me and it is fun to drive. Although more basic technology wise, It's actually a pretty comfortable car for cruising around town or on long road trips. The suspension is really the only thing I don't like about the Sonatas because it is noisy, but still very comfortable and somewhat sporty. We drive it less than any of our other cars because we consider it our 'nice' vehicle and it has been very reliable up to this point. We also have a 1995 Camry LE 4cly and we drive it a lot. It's our commuter as it gets incredible mpg and is backed by Toyota reliability. Other than that, it's nothing special and I certainly don't drive it for the experience. Driving it makes me miss driving something fun, exciting, and well put together.
@@EYVOAuto We also have a 02 Camry 4 cyc, which is rated for towing 2000 pounds. However, the rear suspension of the Camry is so weak that about 150 pounds grocery will put the rear tires down to a point almost touching the rear fender. My 06 Fusion SEL V6 has a much stronger suspension since I put 235 pounds of vegetable fertilizer in the trunk, and the rear barely dropped. Ever since the terrible experience of my Camry's weak rear suspension, I also checked others' Camrys and Acura TLs, and I found that all of them have the same weak rear suspensions, which only have two horizontal round bars. The Sonata and Fusion share similar stronger suspensions, which have a large horizontal metal bar with vertical bars attached.
@@passion830217 Totally agree! We had to do new shocks and struts on our 95 Camry as well, it only had 109k on it! Yes it's old, but the original shocks were just garbage on them for a long long time. Not sure when they corrected the issue.
I’m about to buy a 2006 gls v6 sonata 47k miles $6,995, reviews are really good I hope this turns out to be reliable, if anyone has any tips on what to look out for when inspecting and test driving the car before purchase let me know
Nice! I don't have any experience with the GLS but the valve cover gaskets on our car are very leaky at the moment. I'd say just check for the regular, see how clean the engine is, if there's any seepage or leaks from the gaskets or lines. Do they have documentation on repairs or service? How does the engine sound? How does the transmission shift, etc.? They really do seem to be fairly well built cars and run for a long time pretty reliably if taken care of.
Great question! I'd suggest doing some research online on the model you're looking at buying. For the most part the older Hyundai's seem to have average reliability. They're no Toyota or Honda, but seem to be pretty decent cars if they're maintained. If you want one to last a long time, regular maintenance and repairs are a must. On average, data suggests a properly maintained Hyundai will last about 200-250,000miles before experiencing major failures. Out of all the cars I've owned: Ford, Chevy, SAAB, Toyota, Nissan, Audi, our Hyundai seems to have had more problems earlier on. I don't know anything about the history of our car, but I do know when we got it it had sat a long time and the brakes had never been done nor had it had regular oil changes; so it could just be the car. Common issues on the 03-2010's are the shocks and struts and can be expensive to have replaced. There are 7 recalls on the 07 year, some relating to the front-end suspension and brakes. We've replaced a broken sway-bar, brakes, and the shocks & struts. Our steering wheel annoyingly squeaks, and the key sometimes will get stuck and not turn, the radio volume dial doesn't work right, the airbag light is now on, and our valve covers are leaking badly, also all common issues. In terms of the transmission I haven't heard anything about them being super unreliable. While, like other cars, sometimes they do fail it doesn't appear to be common with Hyundai. In the online forums owners recommend regular maintenance to the trans. Regular flushes, fluid & filter replacement. Some of the models earlier than 2003 had trouble with the transmission sensors causing them to shift incorrectly but these are easy and cheap to replace.
If it's been well maintained, yes! On average, data suggests a properly maintained Hyundai will last about 200-250,000miles before experiencing major failures. I'd imagine if well cared for they could go much farther. We bought ours at 135k and have only put about 12,000miles on it in 3years. It was not well-cared for and we've replaced the brakes, shocks & struts, a broken sway bar, etc. It has a number of other issues needing addressed, but it most likely is just from the history of our car. However, it's a good example of if not well cared for, it could cost you a lot of money to get it back into good driving condition. Though, even then it should last you a good two - three years of regular driving and have enough life left to sell.
M a 06 & i love it. (3.3 v6) powerful but great on gas. Turns on a dime. She's a babe but like you said in last video, suspensions (full suspension!) Is trash & the electrical work is....well it's like when the teacher gives a student an C- grade, lol ya the kid passed but there were many times where extra help was needed in order to keep up with the rest of the class....also I'm 5'6" and feel right at home in it, last car was the yesr 2000 4.2 Audi A6 quarto & always felt like a child trying to sit at the adult table or something 😂 Shaq would have extra room in that thing! (BTW, DON'T EVER BUY THIS CAR!!) It was a complete nightmare.
We average about 22mpg. If we take a road trip and do all highway it's got up to 30mpg before, but expect around 26-27. In town, if you drive really really conservatively, I've seen it around 19, but realistically 17ish.
Great question! It's been quite a while since I've been in the car, but I'd say the speaker quality is pretty average for an 07 vehicle. Ours has the stock 6-speaker system and not the optioned infinity system. The stock base system is okay, but not the greatest. However, the sound quality is really clear hitting mostly in the mid-range, but not so much that it's distracting from the highs which are still crisp and clear. There is no stock sub in the base system on the SE, so to me the system lacks bass (I prefer my music bass heavy). With that said, it's not a bad listening experience and tends to be more bassy than most stock cars, without a dedicated sub, from the same year. Volume controls on the steering wheel are nice, but you'll be left wanting more from the radio head-unit itself which is maybe a little too simple in my book.
You should be around 18mpg in the city, 27mpg highway or around 21mpg combined. We were about 22.5 combined and could push around 28 (according to the car) on the highway, when driving conservatively.

Thank you, I appreciate that! I do believe that with proper maintenance it would make a longer term reliable vehicle. I've seen them in good running condition with upwards of 200,000 miles on them. Stay tuned, when I have time, I'll be tuning this car up and diving into deeper maintenance. I need to replace the valve covers as there is some slight leakage starting, and some things like that. As for the soundtrack or outro, it's a TH-cam track you can find in the creator studio called Dorian.
These are good cars, maybe a little less reliable than a Honda or Toyota, but overall they tend to have pretty average reliability. If it is in near immaculate condition, in today's market that may seem like a good price. Out here in Wyoming - Idaho I feel like that price would be high, but then again the market is crazy right now. I would suggest doing some research on Facebook Marketplace, Craigslist, or auto-trader, etc. and look at comparable vehicles for sale or sold in your area. That would give you the best idea on current market price for around that many miles. You may also want to research some of the common issues with these cars so you know what to look for when you go and test drive it. Best of luck!

@@lltatl1649 Nice! Those all would most likely be a better choice for that price range. I'd try hard to get one with lower miles, provided it is in good shape. With that said, if that's out of the budget, I've seen Accords and Camrys with over 500k on them, if they're taken care of. Biggest trick is to do a lot of research and be patient when shopping and checking a car out.
Hi, mine is the 3.3l v6 and it's not the most fuel efficient, but it really isn't terrible either. It averages around 22mpg in town and 31mpg on the highway. Considering it's weight and sportiness, that's really pretty good.
Had this car and technically still have it been through 1 engine replacement now 2nd motor blew after 1st motor i put some mods in. I have a weapon r intake with the tube running down to the lower airbox under the battery, spoiler with brake light, wss about to add racing chip and stage 3 obd tuner. But 2nd engine blew and was considering putting a new v6 and manual conversion from a 2010 genisis 3.8 manual but now goibg to buy a used 8th gen civic 5 speed
Wow, I can't imagine replacing the engine in one of these. There's no room to work! How was it to mod? I actually really like the v6. It seems pretty powerful and quick even stock. It's just such a heavy car!
Great question! I'm not a certified mechanic so I can't actually give advice - so do a bunch of research before making a decision. Don't believe the 2007's had really any issues with the 3.3l. While less reliable than a toyota / honda these "newer" hyundais still tend to last a long time and have no major issues. However, you should avoid the 2012-2013 model years which did have major engine troubles.
Just my opinion, but for the most part the newer gen Hyundai's, talking 2003 and up, tend to be fairly reliable cars. Hmmm... You might want to get that looked at! ;) In all honesty though, we average about 22mpg. Car should get around 20in the city and we get about 27 on the highway on road trips

@@marcalexander6450 we paid $3400 for it. It's still going strong at 150k miles. I put an alternator on it over the summer, but that's all I've had to do to it other than oil changes.

As soon as I figured out how to lower the driver's seat, my life driving this car changed dramatically! I'll have to do a video sometime on how to adjust the seat, it might just be me, but it took me a lot longer than normal to figure how to get this one just right. Lowering the seat frees up a ton of space and makes the car way more comfortable if you're tall!

I'm a Ford truck man, did construction all my life. I just retired, never really wanted a foreign car. My friend had the 2007 Hyundai, 92,034 miles on it as of March 2022. So I guess it's a low mileage car for it's age. He told me it was a great car, he has to have a truck. It was basically his old lady's car, and I know he takes care if his vehicles. I don't know what there worth, he said give me 2 grand and you can have it. We have worked together and he said he was giving me a good deal, and I trust him. So I gave him the money without even test riding it. I took it home and was actually quite impressed. The car is very smooth and when I got on it, yes it has some balls. For the heck of it I had Autozone read the computer, not one issue. So here I am with a car I wouldn't look twice at, and I'm falling in love with it. It's not a G.T. Mustang, but it will give a stock one a surprise, not saying it would beat it but it wouldn't leave it in the dust. I really hope it lasts. A lot of people tell me they run forever, and this is my first foreign car. So far it has me impressed. I guess I'll find out how long it will last. I will do all the schedule maintenance. Won't beat on it, it is fun to drive. We shall see. Have a great day.
Wow! That is a great deal, especially in this market. Ford guy myself, haha. Owning the sonata really opened my eyes, Hyundai actually tends to be pretty reliable if you maintain & take care of it. My mother in law has the car now and is up to 160k without any issues. Only thing we did to it repair wise was the shocks & struts and a sway bar link, but those wear out in all cars. I've seen sonatas and elantras with well over 200k

We bought 2 of these new in 2008. We still have them. We also have various Saabs and Volvos. About 10 cars in total. The Sonatas have been, by far, the most reliable cars we've ever owned. Both cars are on their original battery. Both cars suffered a failed... sunvisor. We haven't been religious on maintenance, but it doesn't seem to matter, unlike the Saabs which I service at 10,000km.. or else! The Sonatas are quite possibly one of the best cars ever made. (Brakes are amazing compared to a 9-5, for example)

I love my 05 sonata , it's not luxury but it's comfortable , handles amazing in snow , the factory stereo is honestly blah but it's very easily updateble , I've had the car for 2 yrs and it has 125.000 miles and honestly no issues with it yet besides the air bag light which was fixed by disconnecting and reconnecting the wire harness under the driver side seat , other than that I'm averaging 24 miles in the city and around 32 on the highway.

I have a 2006 GLS V6 since new. I don't know how it is different from a SE because it has all the same features as yours. It is holding up really good and the only things that broke down were the water pump, a loose sun visor, and windshield washer spray. I don't have any plan to replace it yet.
Oh nice, I could me mistaken, but the GLS was their more sporty trim package; "grand luxury sport." It's just the upgraded trim level from the SE giving the car more features. How many miles are on your car? I don't feel like it's uncommon to have to replace things like you mentioned as part of regular maintenance. The water pump unfortunately is a little bit of a repair, but I don't believe you have to remove the timing belt to do it. In a shop you'd probably be looking at $270-$380. Nice car!

I have an 09 SE and I love the ride. Not smooth like a Camry but still, not bad for being the stiffer suspension. The seats are awesome! Very quiet interior (which is great for my system although installing it was not easy).

I have the 2009 4 cylinder with a 180000 miles what a great car this is . I love this car will purchase a newer model whenever it stops running . I have been religiously changing the oil every 3,000 miles since I purchased the car .

I just bought a 2008 hyundai sonata. My dad is somewhat sceptical of it. I really like the car and its sound system. Since it would be my first car we bought the 4 cylinder version otherwise the insurance would be very high. We had also looked at a 2006 volvo s40 that had a 2.5i, 5 cylinder, with a turbo which i wanted so badly but it had some problems but honestly i am happy with the sonata and this review made me feel a lot better although not exactly the same. Great choice for a first car! I don't think you'll be disappointed with the Sonata. It's basic, but it still has a good mix of features and is a very comfortable, roomy car. Although we haven't put a ton of miles on ours, I can say it should be fairly reliable when well maintained. The only troubles we've ever had are dealing with the most common problems which are the shocks and struts, and rust underneath.
The shocks and struts are easy to replace and somewhat inexpensive if you can do the work yourself. These cars are very rust prone on their undercarriage. If it's not too late, I highly suggest being wary of driving in salty conditions and always keeping the car washed and dry. Always, always change your oil & filter every 5,000miles if using synthetic - yes it seems expensive, but it's easy enough to do in 10-15min and will prolong the life of the car saving you a ton of money in the end.
The 4cly may not have as much power as a v6 or a turbo, but your wallet will thank you. That's more money you'll have to put away for your next car!

i have an 06. Everything he says on this review is spot on. Only complaint is the seat squishes down too low for me. So I sit on a pillow which works fine. Handling and acceleration are noy important to me and this car seems fine in that department. Mine is the 4 cyl and seems pretty peppy to me. I like it so far. Had to order new sun visors as they wouldn't stay up. Small thing but very irritating!

I cant speak for the older generation elantras, but the newer ones, 6th and 7th gen have very good leg room for the driver. I'm 6'3" so leg room is usually #1 when I'm looking for a car and the elantra really surprised me. Most compacts and mid size cars are just instant no-gos for me but I don't even need the seat all the way back, I keep it one notch forward from the back and its perfect. It does make it pretty much impossible for anyone to sit behind me but its so rare I have more than 2 people with me its not a problem. All of that and I average 45ish MPG on the highway which is great for my commute.
I had a 2008 sonata bought with 145k going strong, now has 235k. No major problems whatsoever, except rust. I now have a 2007 Sonata with a V6. It has 190k with no major problems. That v6 engine moves and much more powerful than the four-cylinder. But, the four-cylinder is no slouch.
Great car, powerful and good handling, people try to give Hyundai a bad name but they make some gems for sure 99 elantra wagon, 04 sonata with evo non turbo 4 to name a few I have had besides this and 13 Tucson.

I love my 06 sonata I'm 6"1 and with the seats all the way back its still comfortable. I love the radio In the car I use an fm transmitter and the bass is pretty good with the stock sub

My 06 has only 36K on it (owned by an older lady who had to stop driving). It turns out right away that the crank shaft pully was coming apart (rubber in between deteriorates) and was about to fall apart. I was lucky a friend noticed the rattle. I had the belt replaced at the same time.

My 06 Sonata v6 has 195500 and runs great. No major work. Only minor. Heated seats still work, ac and heat works perfect. I Gabe leather seats and sunroof ...only downside I only can use cds or radio lol

I have the V6 with 199k miles, had it since 40k. Only 1 major issue- engine had an oil leak into the alternator, cost me $1600 because they had to lift the engine to fix the leak. Paint has really faded/chipping due to not waxing it like I should, probably going to have to sand it and do a Rustoleum paint job. Headlights are faded, impossible to fully restore despite trying and the headlight position is a little too low. I might buy replacement headlight assemblies and make sure they are properly lifted when installing.

My dad had a 2008 hyundai Sonata v6, but he sold it in 2010. He got tired of driving that car and did not want to keep it for so long, and it did not have enough power for him. So he traded it for a 2006 saab 93 aero wagon.
I just copped one in 2021 and had 48k on it. I stay in CA and it’s from AZ. Guess some old lady owned it before me and I’m the second owner!

I'd actually prefer the 4 just to make it more economical. The v6 is a good motor with more than enough power to be a little fun at times, just burns a lot of fuel. Good cars

I’ve had an 07 with the 4 cylinder going on 2 years now, it was bought new by my grandmother, sold to my aunt, then to me, has had the AC compressor, alternator replaced, other than that, I replaced the struts control arms and valve cover gasket myself and it’s just a beautifully reliable and comfy car to me, gonna keep driving it for a while, it’s got 130k, no rattles on startup, It’s weird owning a car that you can just drive and not really worry about
Edit: except for the damn exterior lights! 😂 I’m constantly having to replace bulbs and tweak the brake light sockets to keep them working

Guess i got the lemon version .. Was my mothers car .. Tranny went out at 45.000 miles .. Not long after that ..Upper and lower control arm bushings . 3 power windows dont work . Plastic door handles keep breaking off. Now at 145.000 main seal leaks all over the alternator. 2 of those this year. But it is fast..
Shoot! That sounds like a headache. My mother-in-law has our car now & drives it a lot. So far so good, at 165k+, but it just started leaking oil from the valve cover gaskets onto the alternator like you mentioned (pretty common issue with these). I'll be forever surprised at how quick they are for not being designed as a "sporty" car. Not to mention they're just plain nice to drive around.
I just purchased a month ago a 2006 with the 3.3 engine and like it but I can't stand the seat. I kept trying to adjust it farther back and I am 5'7". I figured maybe there is an aftermarket solution to it. the bottom of the seat goes in too far and the top leans forward too much.
I've never looked into an aftermarket option, but the drivers seat really is terrible. Try lowering it with the round knob, that really helped me. We're about the same height, I couldn't imagine being much taller and owning this car...
@@EYVOAuto I am sure many others had the same problem. I wonder if they ever sold a replacement seat that fixes the issue. My 2001 Buick was actually more comfortable and had a power seat. I do think that the car handles well and can fly up steep hills near me with the 3.3 engine. The Regal had a 3.8 and had good power as well but did strain a little on hills I guess since it was a bit bigger. I just needed a car to get to work and the Buick break line broke and it was never going to pass inspection again due to sensors giving issues. The NYC area has strict inspection requirements.

@@EYVOAuto Hello, this past summer I put new tires on the car and was complaining about the seat. My mechanic looked at it and used the manual controls that are smooth shaped. I didn't realize they were the controls and now the seat tilts back and I was able to shift the seat farther back. Apparently the lady who owned it had moved it far forward and made it lean forward. I was quite happy and felt stupid at the same time....

I've seen them with over 250,000miles so they don't seem too bad. Our was in definite need of new valve cover gaskets as they leaked a lot, but other than regular maintenance we never did any repairs to the motor itself. That car now has over 150,000miles still going strong.
I love my 2007 Sonata Limited, however I have found that the suspension is horrible. I have replaced the struts and still it is very rickety and loud over pot holes. Does yours have this same issue?
YES!!! You're absolutely right! The suspension is horrible, I replaced all my shocks and struts in a later video and while it has a brand new feel, it still makes a lot of sketchy noises... Like you said "very rickety," lots of clacks and clatters. Unfortunately, it's just due to terrible design...
Try replacing the upper control arms and ball joints. Checked mine and the ball joints had no grease left which was causing A LOT of rickety sound. You can find both the driver and passenger side on Amazon for $60. Hope this helps!

@@EYVOAuto i miss features on the last car such as the sunroof, double storage compartments in the middle of the car, lights in convenient places like the front doors or in the glove box. Though I do feel that the newer car will be just as reliable as the old one. Hyundai is a nice brand.

Great review! I just found that it has 226 lb-ft @ 3500 rpm. It has the torque at low RPM, so it built like a truck. It will be helpful if you use it to tow a utility trailer. Most cars have their peak torque around 4500 rpm. It is definitely better than my 2006 Fusion v6, which does not come with stability control, and the back row seats have no adjustable headrests. For the 2009 and 2010 Sonata limited models, they come with infinity 360 watts speaker systems, which is also on my Fusion SEL V6. Those sound systems are fantastic. When it is time to replace my wife's 2002 Camry 4 cycle, I will get the Sonata. The LE Camry we have is pathetic since it does not have rear disk brakes, ABS, Traction Control, Stability Control, and side curtain airbags. The Sonata is the best economical car with the gust. Do you like the driving experience of yours? I love to drive my 2006 Fusion SEL V6, which is sporty, but I do not like to drive 02 Camry, which is soft and floaty.
Thanks! Great comment, very useful information. I haven't towed with any of my cars, but it sounds like the Sonata is very capable. Its quickness never stops surprising me and it is fun to drive. Although more basic technology wise, It's actually a pretty comfortable car for cruising around town or on long road trips. The suspension is really the only thing I don't like about the Sonatas because it is noisy, but still very comfortable and somewhat sporty. We drive it less than any of our other cars because we consider it our 'nice' vehicle and it has been very reliable up to this point.
We also have a 1995 Camry LE 4cly and we drive it a lot. It's our commuter as it gets incredible mpg and is backed by Toyota reliability. Other than that, it's nothing special and I certainly don't drive it for the experience. Driving it makes me miss driving something fun, exciting, and well put together.
@@EYVOAuto We also have a 02 Camry 4 cyc, which is rated for towing 2000 pounds. However, the rear suspension of the Camry is so weak that about 150 pounds grocery will put the rear tires down to a point almost touching the rear fender. My 06 Fusion SEL V6 has a much stronger suspension since I put 235 pounds of vegetable fertilizer in the trunk, and the rear barely dropped. Ever since the terrible experience of my Camry's weak rear suspension, I also checked others' Camrys and Acura TLs, and I found that all of them have the same weak rear suspensions, which only have two horizontal round bars. The Sonata and Fusion share similar stronger suspensions, which have a large horizontal metal bar with vertical bars attached.
@@passion830217 Totally agree! We had to do new shocks and struts on our 95 Camry as well, it only had 109k on it! Yes it's old, but the original shocks were just garbage on them for a long long time. Not sure when they corrected the issue.

Nice! I don't have any experience with the GLS but the valve cover gaskets on our car are very leaky at the moment. I'd say just check for the regular, see how clean the engine is, if there's any seepage or leaks from the gaskets or lines. Do they have documentation on repairs or service? How does the engine sound? How does the transmission shift, etc.? They really do seem to be fairly well built cars and run for a long time pretty reliably if taken care of.

Great question! I'd suggest doing some research online on the model you're looking at buying. For the most part the older Hyundai's seem to have average reliability. They're no Toyota or Honda, but seem to be pretty decent cars if they're maintained. If you want one to last a long time, regular maintenance and repairs are a must. On average, data suggests a properly maintained Hyundai will last about 200-250,000miles before experiencing major failures.
Out of all the cars I've owned: Ford, Chevy, SAAB, Toyota, Nissan, Audi, our Hyundai seems to have had more problems earlier on. I don't know anything about the history of our car, but I do know when we got it it had sat a long time and the brakes had never been done nor had it had regular oil changes; so it could just be the car.
Common issues on the 03-2010's are the shocks and struts and can be expensive to have replaced. There are 7 recalls on the 07 year, some relating to the front-end suspension and brakes. We've replaced a broken sway-bar, brakes, and the shocks & struts. Our steering wheel annoyingly squeaks, and the key sometimes will get stuck and not turn, the radio volume dial doesn't work right, the airbag light is now on, and our valve covers are leaking badly, also all common issues.
In terms of the transmission I haven't heard anything about them being super unreliable. While, like other cars, sometimes they do fail it doesn't appear to be common with Hyundai. In the online forums owners recommend regular maintenance to the trans. Regular flushes, fluid & filter replacement. Some of the models earlier than 2003 had trouble with the transmission sensors causing them to shift incorrectly but these are easy and cheap to replace.

@@EYVOAuto They quit putting the v6 In the Sonata in 2011. From 2011 to 2019 you can get a 2.0 L 4-cylinder turbo.

We bought ours at 135k and have only put about 12,000miles on it in 3years. It was not well-cared for and we've replaced the brakes, shocks & struts, a broken sway bar, etc. It has a number of other issues needing addressed, but it most likely is just from the history of our car. However, it's a good example of if not well cared for, it could cost you a lot of money to get it back into good driving condition. Though, even then it should last you a good two - three years of regular driving and have enough life left to sell.

M a 06 & i love it. (3.3 v6) powerful but great on gas. Turns on a dime. She's a babe but like you said in last video, suspensions (full suspension!) Is trash & the electrical work is....well it's like when the teacher gives a student an C- grade, lol ya the kid passed but there were many times where extra help was needed in order to keep up with the rest of the class....also I'm 5'6" and feel right at home in it, last car was the yesr 2000 4.2 Audi A6 quarto & always felt like a child trying to sit at the adult table or something 😂 Shaq would have extra room in that thing! (BTW, DON'T EVER BUY THIS CAR!!) It was a complete nightmare.

Great question! There is not one on the basic factory radio. We always used a 12v FM transmitter

We average about 22mpg. If we take a road trip and do all highway it's got up to 30mpg before, but expect around 26-27. In town, if you drive really really conservatively, I've seen it around 19, but realistically 17ish.

Great question! It's been quite a while since I've been in the car, but I'd say the speaker quality is pretty average for an 07 vehicle. Ours has the stock 6-speaker system and not the optioned infinity system. The stock base system is okay, but not the greatest. However, the sound quality is really clear hitting mostly in the mid-range, but not so much that it's distracting from the highs which are still crisp and clear. There is no stock sub in the base system on the SE, so to me the system lacks bass (I prefer my music bass heavy). With that said, it's not a bad listening experience and tends to be more bassy than most stock cars, without a dedicated sub, from the same year. Volume controls on the steering wheel are nice, but you'll be left wanting more from the radio head-unit itself which is maybe a little too simple in my book.

You should be around 18mpg in the city, 27mpg highway or around 21mpg combined. We were about 22.5 combined and could push around 28 (according to the car) on the highway, when driving conservatively.

Thank you, I appreciate that! I do believe that with proper maintenance it would make a longer term reliable vehicle. I've seen them in good running condition with upwards of 200,000 miles on them. Stay tuned, when I have time, I'll be tuning this car up and diving into deeper maintenance. I need to replace the valve covers as there is some slight leakage starting, and some things like that.

These are good cars, maybe a little less reliable than a Honda or Toyota, but overall they tend to have pretty average reliability. If it is in near immaculate condition, in today's market that may seem like a good price. Out here in Wyoming - Idaho I feel like that price would be high, but then again the market is crazy right now. I would suggest doing some research on Facebook Marketplace, Craigslist, or auto-trader, etc. and look at comparable vehicles for sale or sold in your area. That would give you the best idea on current market price for around that many miles. You may also want to research some of the common issues with these cars so you know what to look for when you go and test drive it. Best of luck!

@@lltatl1649 Nice! Those all would most likely be a better choice for that price range. I'd try hard to get one with lower miles, provided it is in good shape. With that said, if that's out of the budget, I've seen Accords and Camrys with over 500k on them, if they're taken care of. Biggest trick is to do a lot of research and be patient when shopping and checking a car out.

Hi, mine is the 3.3l v6 and it's not the most fuel efficient, but it really isn't terrible either. It averages around 22mpg in town and 31mpg on the highway. Considering it's weight and sportiness, that's really pretty good.
Never driven the 4cyl but I'd love to give it a try. Given it's such a heavy car, I can't see how the 2.4 is very fuel efficient.

Had this car and technically still have it been through 1 engine replacement now 2nd motor blew after 1st motor i put some mods in. I have a weapon r intake with the tube running down to the lower airbox under the battery, spoiler with brake light, wss about to add racing chip and stage 3 obd tuner. But 2nd engine blew and was considering putting a new v6 and manual conversion from a 2010 genisis 3.8 manual but now goibg to buy a used 8th gen civic 5 speed

Great question! I'm not a certified mechanic so I can't actually give advice - so do a bunch of research before making a decision. Don't believe the 2007's had really any issues with the 3.3l. While less reliable than a toyota / honda these "newer" hyundais still tend to last a long time and have no major issues. However, you should avoid the 2012-2013 model years which did have major engine troubles.

Just my opinion, but for the most part the newer gen Hyundai's, talking 2003 and up, tend to be fairly reliable cars. Some of the most common problems deal with rust, the suspension, brakes, and a pesky airbag light due to the under seat connectors. I believe there are 7 recalls on the car in this video.
