Damn 5.4 seconds for this car?? This thing moves ~~ I think the Hyundai Genesis was a nice change for Hyundai as a brand, since they were known for building cheap cars with a heavy emphasis on value. When this came out, I remember a lot of people in Korea getting this car, and it really did challenge the Germans in terms of luxury but at a lower price point in typical Hyundai fashion. I believe the 5.0L Tau V8 was also Hyundai’s first V8 engine they built. Sleeper luxury sedan honestly. I saw a lot of these older Genesis models and also the newer Genesis models (now the G80) in Korea. Oh, and that turn signal sound?? Fantastic ~~ Hyundai’s turn signal sound is so satisfying for me.
I think Genesis should have kept it as a model rather than a brand. It was a more affordable offering compared to the Germans in this class. Now they cost just as much, if not more. Takes away the whole purpose...
I agree. The cars are still great but I agree that they are much more expensive than when they started 7 years ago. I think since Hyundai hired German engineers and designers, maybe that’s why the prices of their vehicles have gotten much more expensive. Maybe follow a similar mentality like Lexus and Acura.
@ They should have just continued them as Hyundai cars but for smaller price tags. The profit per car would be smaller, but the popularity and units sold would be much higher.
Picked up a 15 Genesis Ultimate 5.0 AWD a few months ago for $12k. 52k miles and like new. It's such a great value for all the features, how well they work and the ride/handling of the car. Yeah I feel the Audis, MBs and BMWs have better interior materials and brand recognition but the Hyundai/Genesis represents such good value that it's hard to pass up.
I picked one of these up from an auction for 4 grand back in November of 2023. Spent 2 grand customizing it how I like and repairing any issues and maintenance throughout my 9 month ownership of the car. Unfortunately I was T boned by a red light runner end of August destroying the car. Seeing this video reminds me of how nice a car it truly was. Mine was a 2012 in the same spec silver on black and it was amazing. Also the fact that youre in VA as well makes it hit even more close to home. Looking to get into an 05-06 e55 AMG next if I can find one under the 15k I have from this car. Edit: Not sure if you noticed but the chime on this is the same chime that BMW uses lol. Watching this videos making me want another one. Also the point you made about "fast" corners. These cars are actually pretty capable on backroads much moreso than say a charger or chrysler 300s. My dad had a 2016 300s and that car handled terribly compared to this. IMO these handle great for their size. I haven't driven a 5 series yet but weve owned an E class from the same year and ive gotta say that the R spec corners with much more confidence.
I am sorry to hear that. Glad you're ok! I didn't notice the chime. What I meant about the corners is the steering ratio. It's not very sharp and requires a good amount of turning.
Now launching a Genesis 5.0 with AWD would never have a problem with off the line acceleration. Even in heavy rain. I’ve yet to see my traction control light come on. Huge difference when comparing my 2015 Genesis 5.0 that struggled to get traction even when it was dry outside.
Probably due to less weight the older one has. Newer ones are straight liners and don’t do well at high speeds going around corners from my experience. The AWD does help it significantly but you’ll still be reminded on how heavy the newer Genesis vehicles are.
That would be a great comparison, but I would personally go with the M56. It's got a more upscale and interesting cabin, and the performance is very comparable. The M56x also gives the benefit of AWD.
@ It's supposed to rev up to 6.5-7k. It could have been on bad spark plugs or some other issue, because this car is absolutely effortless and pulls like a jet plane😎
Nice! I think the Stinger GT and the Genesis 5.0 R-Spec are the two best Korean cars to have ever been made. The Genesis feels like an S-Class from 2005-2006.
@@nadamiracing right but the genesis rspec handles better. the equus isn't meant to be driven like a track car. just like the s class it's made for people to be chauffeured in, hence having the buttery smooth ride and quietness. if you like driving fast the rspec is better overall. still got love for my equus tho she's been thru hell n back and not a single light on the dash. 10/10 reliability
I didn't do the quarter mile. They generally trap anywhere between 105-108 mph, depending on the weather conditions, DA, gas, driver weight, etc. With a tune and other mods it can do over 110mph.
I tested my 12 r spec on a dragy I just got the trap was 109.97 @13.14 that was the best one tho usually get 108 as trap speed and about 13.3-13.4 for the 1/4(only thing done to it is x pipe and muffler delete)
@ Nice! Stock ones would normally run 106-107 from what I've seen. Even the slight road decline can add some speed. Car and Driver got 103, but I can definitely see 107-108 here, on a cold day. In the summer, expect it to go to 104-105.
@ I've noticed a drop in trap speed in the hot summer days. I remember I tested a Genesis 5.0 R-Spec on a 90 degree day with a higher DA, and it trapped 3-4 mph less on the 1/8 mile. The engine and transmission did seem healthy and the 0-60 was also around 5.7s as well with some wheelspin off the line.
are all the Genesis' made fwd or awd. i dont think they ever made rwd dont quote me tho. and also the mirror lights in the video keep flashing. i think thats just the camera but im making sure.
Also, I think it would be better (no doubt it is already fun watching your vids) if you have one half of the drive calm and the other half accelerating (no need to exceed limits, just like bursts on roads). DM’s mild side then the wild side
@ Well, it can go fine or it's gearbox can blow. These aren't my cars, so I don't want to drive them in a constantly aggressive style. I don't mind accelerating a couple of times to show the performance, but I don't want it to be constant hard acceleration.

Back in those days, that was a great value!
I won't break down as much as those
Do you think this car could be a good/decent first car?
@ Absolutely! Be careful of the power and RWD though. It can definitely fishtail, especially if it's slightly wet outside
@@DMCarReviewsok cool I’ll think about it thanks
The Hyundai Genesis will forever have a special place in my heart ❤
That's awesome! Great car.
I wish they still make these 5.0L genesis cars like the equus. I love these South Korean vehicles a lot that has a V8
The V8's were definitely one of their best engines
Yup. Does this car have the same top speed like the equus
@ This one is limited to 149mph
Cool
great video! showcasing cars like these cool sleeper sedans is why I love this channel!
Thank you for watching!

It's a V8
That’s crazy. I have a 2012 4.6 and I’m hitting 5.7 0-60. I thought these were a second faster.

6:30 Mustang doin Mustang things 😂
