Taking shoes/crampons ‘just in case’ you need to hike to the snow and ice is next level preparedness! I’ve done a 3km hike up the side of a hill to the snow line in order to recover a quad but came back empty handed. So glad you were successful 😊

I fly around extreme sports events tracks cars dirtbikes other aircrafts some times many of us do actually. I need to know my gear can handle everything I throw at it or people can get hurt and it being a malfunction and not pilot error that’s a big deal that means it can be addressed and it can be fixed to help from preventing again in the future.

You can use Crossfire TX Lite (or full) to enable find mode. Once TX is close enough. it will get a link and begin receiving telemetry (whayaknow! you get another new updated GPS coordinates that you last know after the crash) to get closer. Once you're in the spot, you can use find mode to play cold & hot game to find it or hear its buzzer if battery hasn't ejected. Edit: Saw the description about ESC failure. Learnt new thing everyday. :)

My LR quads have a similar setup as yours and have had an ESC burn up 2 separate times. I have been blessed to have had only a short hike to recover any downed quads. The GPS is a quad saver. I also have my GPS to record coordinates via black box and saved on my radio SD card. And also the last 5 points are saved on my radio display screen every 5 seconds. Glad you recovered it. I must add, at my age I would not have did that recovery...not physically able.
Remarkable recovery. I hate walking across a park to get my freestyle quad lol, i like to think id hike for my drone but im not sure i have that commitment. Great flight anyways, really cool. Looks like a failsafe or desync but its hard to tell. You were very low for being far away in those rocks, glad you got it back.
@@djilly75 yes but... i only turtle if im sure its all good, like a bump off of a building and flip over on pavement i would turtle but alot of times if i hit trees and bend props is when it gets a little sketchy. I once crashed and turtled out not knowing the battery had shifted and the props cut the wire insulation in 3 spots including frayed exposed wires positive and negative. I flew back like that not knowing it was insanely close to shorting out and burning up, so now i save turtle for emergencies like roof crashes lol. I still cant believe i was able to unplug safely. 🐢😓
@@Noah_7s im not sure about long range turtle mode, i suspect after he failsafed he couldnt get connection to enter turtle mode and by the time he got close enough the battery may be dead along with the vtx due to overheating if no low power mode enabled.

Epic flight and I'm glad you were able to recover it. Did you get an idea of the distance you had to travel to find it? I fly mine in the South West of the US and there area areas I'm certain it would be stuck and that's a terrible feeling. Is your flight pack a 6s lithium-ion?
Thanks. I used the app "gps waypoint finder" to find it again. The App show you direction and distance.I have entered the last GPS coordinates transmitted by Crossfire in the app. Yes; I use liion 6S with 21700er Molicel cells. The best liions on the market with 45A

Hello, great video! It is a pity that it fell, but it is true that from the moment you take off, until more or less half of the climb, the noise of the engines is heard very synchronized but at one point of that climb the sound changes and they are not heard as clean or fine. I just hope the repair was cheap. greetings..👌👌👌
End of story: defective esc and defective Caddx vista because it tore out the antenna including uf.l connector and a piece of the vista-board. I will change to 2806.5 motors
First off, excellent flight! I love how you fly so low and fast,really going for it. Havent checked updates fpr cause but i suspect a failsafe due to low altitude and signal lost behind rocks.

I had a similar crash at a closer proximity for unknown reasons. There is a strong suspicion that a hawk attacked my drone as I've seen it circling around the area many times before. Broke an arm from the crash but the drone was ready to fly after swapping in a new arm. I'm going with either ot was a bird of prey or a cosmic ray :)

How much weight can Phantom 4 lift? I'm pretty sure his 7" weights more than 800g. I once kid with my buddy that an autonomous drone (ie: Phantom or Mavic Pro) heads there and reels down its claw just to dismantle the drone's battery and recover the drone then come again to get the battery afterward. ;)
My bet is one cell died in the battery faster than the others. Which caused a massive current drop and voltage drop. D-syncing your esc. Otherwise apon desent its possible gliding with that much weight caused the props to spin up causing back current and a d-sync.

When i saw the crash i was sure that it was an issue with one front motor , luckily you got it back, thanks for sharing.
Looks like the front right just gave out mid-flight, by the looks of the way the drone front flipped.

Until today it is not clear whether it was a firmware bug (beta) or a defective esc. When I recovered the drone, the ESC Motor2 was broken

It is not correct. I fly there between 80 and 100% throttle position with high angle. Most correction of height I am only able to correct with pitch

I always tell, that I went into failsafe because of a defective ESC (mosfet). In truth, I was only interested in recovering the drone ;)
