@alanhunter1557 I would put it a step above it. Not that Susan Tedeski and Derrick Trucks are bullsh*t. I'm specifically referring to today's mainstream music.
Lawd have mercy, it just does not--does not--does not get any better than this!!! That's one of the best damn bands to ever play, and one of the best versions of this song anyone has done, period, IMO, man, were they ever on their game that day...
I rarely talk opinionated I always go by facts I have to say this is the greatest band of all time I saw them every year at Jones Beach when I got back together in 1989 the show is 2 years in a row where the best two shows I've ever seen in my life of any band one year they started off with done somebody wrong couldn't believe how good it was the another year they started off with don't want you no more and Not My Cross to Bear you know the first two songs on the first album I've never just I've never heard anything like those two shows the best of them all the Allman Brothers Band
Yeah, wow. Harsh fuckin' loss. I love the Allman Brothers' music. They are one of my two most favorite bands. The other being the Stones. Depending on my mood on any day they alternate between the nimber 1 and number 2 spots if my all time favorites. I was verrrrry unhappy the day the bad news came that he'd passed. To usurp Don McLean's lyrics from "American Pie," for me, it was like the day the music died and I'm not being dramatic. What a sad disappointment, and I'm just a fan. He was too young. Feel bad for his family.
Could not let him go without hearing Statesboro Blues. This is always my consummate Allman Brothers Band. Rocking Blues, dance all night. Here's to you Greg, you were beautiful and your band made me happy. That's a lot.
It's been so long since I've seen what they looked like, I forgot how handsome Greg was back then. I never forgot how good they were though, such an amazing band.
Like Bill Graham said closing night of the Fillmore we're going to round it off we're going to round it off with the best of them all the Allman Brothers Band
Rest in peace one of the co-founder of the southern american rock. A real legend. Thanks for all the amazing music that you gave to us. I used to listen The Allman Brothers Band by my bro, and when i heard for first time, i was really impresed for the unique and passionate blues rock. Thanks for all. Rock in heaven.
MAN... Mr Dilly wishes we had All three of you back with us.. Gregg, Duane and Dickey.. But we know Lord your keeping everyone in Heaven happy with that Awesomely, Fantastic. MUSIC!! 🙏👍🎸❤️❤️
Statesboro Blues and Jessica my 2 favorite ABB songs, and both played great at this 1982 concert. Dickey at his best and great solo by DD Toler on Statesboro. What a unique voice Greg had. RIP!
Dickie hated playing slide(according to him)...and he was so good! I think it must have made him feel funny with Duane's passing. But Dickie pretty much was a badass guitarist no matter what. I wish he and Gregg could have stayed together until the end. I've seen both many times and they've both never disappointed.
+circlecloud11 He was a decent slide player, not a really good one. It sounds like he didn't care much about playing slide, too. The weird thing is he was trying to be both himself AND Duane at this point and pissing everyone off by doing that. His slide playing was adequate for the sound of the band but did not take it anywhere special like Duane, Warren or Derek could. Gregg sounds really good here, though. He was still a strong singer even though he was probably very high at the time. In 1982 he was only 34 yrs old, still plenty of energy left. Dickey Betts was very disruptive in the band at this point and they had a lot of problems with him, as their history shows. Great player and song writer; a nasty drunk who beat up women, too. Not a real nice guy then.
Well Larry I suppose you make a valid point. But there is no question that he was a pretty important part of keeping and growing the Allman BB after Duane's passing. Maybe if he'd sobered up like the rest the story would be different....not that there was a single bad thing about the final lineup with Derek and Warren.
+circlecloud11 No questioning his contributions or the complexity of his playing and writing, especially of those wonderful instrumentals. And, to be fair, if he hadn't stepped in and grabbed the reins after the deaths of Duane and Berry everything would have fallen apart sooner. Gregg was not able nor did he want to be the leader. I know from first hand knowledge that at this point, they were in tatters. It certainly was not all because of Dickey Betts. It just happened that the personalities of all involved were fraying and this is what ensued. Dan Toler was a friend of mine and it's a shame most people never knew how great he was. I am an avowed ABB disciple, from an early age, too. It made me sad to see this and maybe that's why I get upset about it. Dickey did his best but rubbed them all the wrong way a few times in their history, as we both know. He's a cantankerous and pretty unapologetic guy.
I hear you. And I agree that Dan Toler was really a great addition when they needed a steady hand. A very overlooked player that contributed a lot. So cool that you actually knew him. I think he also worked with Dickie in Great Southern if I'm not mistaken. The ABB definitely has a bittersweet history but those songs we just such a part of my existence both as a young man and now. They are part and parcel of so many great personal memories. Cheers to you friend.
Dickey held the band together after Duane’s death playing both guitar parts until Chuck joined the band. What pressure he must have felt but he just did it and deserves so much credit.
That double piano was unbelievable. Who is that piano player across from Gregg? These guys used to jam with everyone so I'd not be surprised if the piano player from the Grateful Dead or Little Feat was here with Gregg Allman. He jams, like all hell broke loose.
Still, and always will be, better than any of the bullsh*t you hear today
Does that include the Tedeschi Trucks version that they are playing CURRENTLY
@alanhunter1557 I would put it a step above it. Not that Susan Tedeski and Derrick Trucks are bullsh*t. I'm specifically referring to today's mainstream music.
Who else is revisiting this masterpiece after hearing Dickey’s passing? Truly a genius of a guitarist
Rock in peace Dickey!!! One of the best ever.
Heaven is jamming with Gregg, Duane, Butch and Dickie together ❤️
I am June 2024
Here on June 29th 2024
August 2024.😊
Dickey is an absolute genius player, so melodic and soulful. He doesn’t have blood running through his veins, just pure music
one of the most melodic bluesiest slides I've heard
Nothing better than Shrooms and listening to Soul Shine,or anything else from the Allman Brothers. Facts.....
Try listening to Jesse Ed Davis play this. (On ""Taj Mahal") Taj,s 1st album.🙂
This comment will never get old
RIP Dickey
This music is what’s missing from this world.
We should all just sit back smoke some dope and have a good time. I’ll start….
There will never be another Allman brothers band! They invented southern rock 🥌🥌🪨
Tedeschi Trucks keeps that flame burning bright....
Betts doesn't get his just due. He's always"The other guy" He plays slide great.
He was called The King of the Guitar. A legend of a man and the most melodic guitarist I've heard.
As Duane said,,,"Eric Clapton aint got shit on Dickey Betts."
He was good. The problem was that Duane was godly.
Agreed he wrote much of what I consider the ABB's best music. Fantastic player
Duane even said that he was the “famous” one, but Betts was a better guitarist
After joining the service, I was turned on to this band by my older brother…after he passed away..I. Can’t stop thinking of them… magic…
Pure Greatness - We lost a legend, R.I.P. D, Thanks for the soundtrack to some good times.
RIP Gregg your passing left a hole that can never be filled.

Great stuff!
Greg Allman was in my school auditorium and the family concert at peobody auditorium
We used to get stoned and play this in the early 70's
Ron Straight Same in my friends cellar and we would drink Schmidt’s beer, best times of my life!
I was there. Grew up in Ocala Florida and Daytona beach. I'm a brick layer by trade. Worked at the swamp for about a year.
Dickie playing slide!
Doesn’t get much better
Watching those double Leslie’s spinning behind Greg on the Hammond B3 reminds me of just how great he and the band were live. Dickey Betts R.I.P.
Best part was the part near the end. Great piano and keyboard and Betts was sliding down with the slide. Excellent vocals yeah yeah yeah yeah.
Excellent 👍
Long blonde mane and some stunner shades.

Southern Rock history, Damn straight Skippy.

I had such a crush on Gregg as a teenager!
Barb Hansen me too when I was 16 it lasted my whole life I’m 60. Love of my life!
I had a crush on him as a mother of 2 myself--and it lasted all these years. The ABB were my band.
The Allmans were the “blackest” sounding white band ever. In a hundred years , their music will still be enjoyed. So tight , so right.
The greatest ever 😂😂😂😂
My absolute favorite song!
BEST TAVERN DRINKING, CLOSING,FIGHTING, FUCKING SONG EVER RECORDED
