This video brought a smile and great memories! My first job out of high school was a deckhand on a commercial fishing boat in 1969. That's when I got my Rapala fillet knife with a 9" blade. After watching this video, I went to the kitchen and brought that very same knife over to my desk. The wooden handle is dried, cracked, and weathered. The company inscriptions on the handle, blade, and sheath are almost illegible. The leather sheath is really showing its age, although the stitching is still intact. The blade, however, readily takes a razor edge and is still filleting fish, especially since I'm now retired in Florida and fish nearly every day! I sorta wish the video showed how the sheaths were made.

I've been fishing since I could walk. I got my first Rapala knife when I was 8 years old. (4") I'm 60 now. Still got it. It's worn down but it's still my favorite. Best kitchen knife on the planet. The sheath is now bark brown. That's how you can tell the newbies from the old dogs. I've now got a half dozen of different sizes of different vintage. Gave everyone in my family their own knife so they wouldn't use mine. I even carved notches in the handle so I could tell which one was mine. My grandkids all have one. I'll pass mine down to the next generations. God bless.
Received the 4" Lordy..73,4.. from a dear friend.. I have the blade the handle cracked over the ,my next project is to repair and replace the same.. especially after seeing this.. thanks to both for the quality you have given me..

Nice presentation. Have a pair in kitchen that has travelled many miles. Filleted many species and when not fishing they made great steak knives on table. They are 53 years old with only an added coat of spar varnish and Spiderco ceramics for the edges.
Good video. The knife blades being polished then dipped through me off for a bit. No blade groove on fillet knife. I think Marttiini knives are as good as Mora. It might make some of my Swedish ancestors mad but it is true.
Just read packet in Canadian Tire, this exact model is now made in Estonia, and the deluxe one with laminated grip and black blade is made is China. I will buy a vintage one instead thank you.
I still have one that I got for Christmas a looong time ago. I'm guessing 1967. If I remember correctly, when I got mine they only came in the 6 inch length. No telling how many fish I have filleted with that knife. A bunch, that's for sure.

Rapala missed a trick on these knives. I have used Marttiini Finland fillet knives my whole life. I bought a Rapala and it did not perform as well. Upon inspection the Rapala is flat ground, the Marttiini is convex. Reground the Rapala to convex and all is well. Maybe the grind is easier to maintain for the average Joe and they wouldn't know the difference unless they had used one of the original knives.
K bought me a one from tha local wally wotld and it wasnt sharp endough to cut you. But i fixed thar chared the hsndle now it looks like a completely differnt knife and will shave you over all very good quality blade just sharpen it

They perform well. They hold a reasonable good edge and are easy to sharpen. The wooden handle filets are about 20 euros depending on the length but you can get the plastic molded ones under 10 euros.
They’re okay knifes. I try to buy American made gear whenever possible. Sitka Gear for my outer wear, Benchmade for blades, RMJ for my axe, Keen for my boots.

I think you made a goof regarding the Bombing.....Likely the Russians...not the Germans... the Germans were allied with the Finns against the Russians...during the late 1930's the finns were at war with the Russians....known as the winter war
Tom O'Brien After winter war there was another sequence of war against Russia, so called Continuance war which ended late 1944. As part of that peace treaty with Russians, Finland had obligation to drive Germans out of Finnish soil. So this is exactly like the video told, this last part of war to drive Germans out was called Lapland war. As a matter of fact, Finland never had official written/lawful alliance pact with Germans - though we received arms from Germans and let them pass via Finland to attack Murmansk - around 40 000 German soldiers passed northern Finland. This happened when Germans as launched operation Barbarossa and planned to take also northern front via Norway and Finland and seize valuable ore mines in Murmansk and northern Russia. But there was tight military co-operation with Germans, especially when Barbarossa was launched and Finland started its own war for greater Finland. Germans were even called brothers-in-arms, but there was no joined chain-of-command.

From what I saw the ONLYthing a human did was push then through the table saw and load them into other machines/robots. The only action that you could mistake as craftsmanship was looking at the burly birch to determine what to cut. What craftsmanship I saw was on OTHER knives NOT the felet knives.Maby this guy saw another video. They are nice knives but to try passing them off as something other than a mass produced knife is like telling a chick that your d**k is 14" after showing her your 7" of junk.😂😂
These knives are junk now. The finish doesn’t hold up and the sheath is a joke. Make a quality product and charge what it’s worth. There are plenty of cheap options available.
You are probably looking at the ones you get from Walmart, Ace Hardware etc. They are likely made in China or Asia somewhere. If you get the real McCoy from Finland it will last you forever and a day. Mine is 50 years young in July this year and still can shave my beard cleanly. Holds its edge for a long time in use. I use it for so many things. Fileting fish, cutting up moose, dear, elk, and beef, pork and chicken. Do not need to sharpen it very often. Do not buy the cheap Asian copies.

Over the years, owned ten at least myself. Gave them as gifts to fishermen, hunters, and cooks. Everyone loved em'.

I've had mine 20 years and it's still going strong, even though it looks battered and the pommel has fallen off, it still holds a good edge.
Still have my first one.40 yrs and my most beloved knife.
Excellent product fillet knife. I use it often to remove skin from Salmon. The safety cover is approximate as it is very sharp.

Maybe they outsourced some of the production. Nothing wrong with Estonia tho. Its 100km south of Finland.
