    NGK's are the best you can get. We tested several other brands, one brand, the ground electrodes always fell off. One, the porcelain separated from the metal. NGK's on full turbo boost always survived.

    I run ruthenium plugs in my 2 heavily modded Ecoboost engines. I pulled my ruthenium plugs at 45,000 in my truck. Same gap at install .030. I'll never go back. Ruthenium is the new king of plugs. I didn't even tell my tuner till after my data log, he was so impressed he now recommends them to his new customers.

  • @jord9308
    @jord9308 6 ปีที่แล้ว +14

    He is exactly right. We have seen this on our turbo cars- platinum and iridium perform very poorly. Plain copper plugs work better as the boost goes up.
    Also, slathering the plug threads with anti-seize adds a huge barrier to heat conduction from the plug to the head. Better to chase the threads when you change plugs and use a few drops of light oil on the threads. Plugs will be cooler= less detonation

    Most sparkplugs have copper core, regardless of the electrode tip. So you are mixing terms. The spark plugs used in engines are copper core, then they vary from nickle, platinum to Iridium electrode tips. Copper electrode tips just don't exist. There's a misconcepction, what most people call copper spark plugs are really nickle (tip).

    I've been running Brisk (formerly PAL) in my motorcycles since a mate told me about them. All the dealerships stock NGK because they don't last very long so ensure a high turnover of sales (I had a dealer confess this to me that he sold 3 times more NGKs than he did when he only stocked Nippon Denso). I buy my Brisk spark plugs online so avoiding the dealership mantra, "We only stock NGK!! Take it or leave it!!".
    So far my Brisk spark plugs have lasted longer than 2 sets of NGK plugs so I'm happy.
    The best plugs I've ever run in an engine, regarding a noticeable performance improvement, was Lodge HH14 Sintox plugs back in the mid 1980's. These had a copper core and tri-prong electrode. They gave a noticeable hike to low down and mid-range power. They also cost 3 times more than a conventional spark plug.
    Before switching to Brisk spark plugs, I ran expensive NOS Lodge HN Sintox, NOS Champion L-81 / L.-85, etc. anything other than the problematic short service life span NGK plugs. The longest I managed from an NGK plug was 4 months before it did the NGK trick of stopping firing once the engine heated up.

      Post 2000 Jawa 2 stroke motorcycles are OEM equipped with Brisk N-15 plugs. These are the recommend and only replacement spark plug sold by the online global Jawa & CZ parts supplier Jawashop.com

    The argument is that platinum and iridium don't conduct heat well and become virtual glow plugs under high boost in the cylinder. The chart at 2:06 shows copper to be a better conductor of heat and therefore he concludes that copper plugs are better for not causing detonation in boosted engines. However aren't all copper plugs nickel plated? And looking at the chart, nickel is a much worse conductor of heat than either platinum or iridium, and therefore using his own logic it would appear that the copper plugs (with nickel plating) are actually worse conductors of heat than the iridium or platinum plugs.

  • @VIDSTORAGE

    I agree ,copper plugs may not last over 20,000 miles or 1000 hours but they are better and can help with a bit more fuel mileage and worth using especially with spark plug wires for less residence .. I would not use them on a place to get to by the way some engines are designed to put them where it takes hours to change them ..The iridium and platinum's work better with less gap space ..

    Learned the lesson the hard way on my Chrysler minivans. Stick with OEM plugs for the best performance and fuel economy. Speed Density systems like most Chrysler products do not have much adaptability to after market parts that are not OEM equivalent. There may be more with a adaptability with a Mass Air Flow driven PCM, but still not too much without a tune.

      The Voltage Requirement for copper is lower because it is the second best conductor after silver ,the typical copper core with Nickle .. just called a copper plug .,,is used on small engines ,lawn mower weed trimmer ,etc.. with magneto coils that are low voltage low current output /... Iridium and Platinum tips plugs are not used for that because they are terrible conductors that require more power by the ignition coil and the magnetos are not as strong as theses high powered 12V ignition coils that is connected to the spark plug now that helps with the poor conductivity of platinum and iridium tip plugs unlike the older spark plug wire days when copper plugs were always used ...

    ok, so he is suggesting the platinum or iridium part will create resistance at higher temperatures... I agree..... it doesn't matter if the tip or the core has resistance.... resistance is resistance, no matter where it is on the HV circuit ya still gonna loose some spark..... is it noticable???? I Dont Know, he seems to think its can cause tuning issues....

    It's not necessarily that platinum & iridium are bad. If you aren't looking trick your ride & just got a simple commuter car then you'll want platinum or iridium (I prefer iridium) as they last much longer as stated. In the end this will come more handy & less expensive in the long run due to their superior longevity. I'd choose the spark plug based on what you use your car for

    I’ve read so many of the comments here about this video and l’m none the wiser for it! 👀
    Seeing as the car/engine manufacturers spend millions of dollars on research and development and their engineers recommend a particular spark plug, for any given engine, l’ll stick with the OEM, rather than believe some guys word/opinion, that hasn’t spent millions on research and development.

  • @leonidassaber7335
    @leonidassaber7335 9 ปีที่แล้ว +58

    What this guy fails to mention is the core of most is in fact Cooper( all NGK plugs have copper core) and iridium is referring to the plugs durability not performance.

    • @BriskUSA
      @BriskUSA 9 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      +Leonidas Saber Very good point. Most spark plugs are manufactured with a Copper Core, the Center electrode material used is generally a composition of Iridium/Platinum enriched copper as well. So you are correct, Iridium is used for longevity and durability purposes.

    • @SiGrayCK
      @SiGrayCK 7 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      This is the key. The Platinum and Iridium do not have a drastic effect on conductivity due to most plugs being designed with a Copper/Nickel core. There are also some good points below about heat ranges, and the fact that platinum and iridium plugs are non-gappable. Here's a write-up of the differences that I found on Google www.maintainyourride.com/best-spark-plugs

      @silverbird58 Even water cooled engines will also burn holes in pistons if run too lean on the main jet. Whether an engine is air cooled or water cooled makes no difference to burning a hole in a piston or not. It's all to do with the fuel to air mixture ratio.

    It's not heat that causes the ignition it's the arc and changing the spark plug type changes the capacitance value and time, and because an inductor feeds that capacitor , the inductor needs to be matched to that value so sometimes just changing the spark plugs isn't enough to improve the "tank circuits" performance, and what is importance besides impedance matching is the CONDUCTANCE OF ELECTRONS not heat unless your driving diesel.
    Heat dissipation is a problem specially involving the explosion of fuel and balancing the "stoik lean" by type of fuel and compression ratio and air fuel ratio
