This reminds me so much of CnC. I might do this if I ever make another set of chaos cultists or Cadian guard. Give them both a Brotherhood of Nod vs. GDI color scheme.
My own recipe for crystals is to take a glue stick, the one you use in hot glue gun and to sheve it off into shapes you need and then tint them with a watered down wash of your chosen colors. Did wodnerfully on my necron bases.
Not going to lie these crystals remind me a lot of Command and Conquer's Tiberium. I have a feeling C&C fans who do models could definitely put this to good use.
"... the hard edges on the crystal tips..." That took me back to my childhood; groaning when "Crystal Tipps and Alistair" used to come on children's TV. That's a cool base. Maybe some gloss varnish on the crystals would add some more pop?
Watching this made me realize something. I could sit and listen to you read a phonebook. Wait...do those still exist? How about the Z section of an encyclopedia?

I have a question, I am building an army of space marines in metal armor with accents of blue and I want them to stand on Martian Ironeath and Martian Crust dulled down with Earthshade. Which color would you suggest I make the crystals if I were to replicate this? Light blue, or fiery red? cheers

Worth noting that you can make crystals by carving sprue from your models. It's free, and very quick & easy

A good alternative is sprues.
Shave off the nibbly nobbly bitz and scultp the crystals

Hey, could we not make our own crystals from empty sprue frames? Cut out a cuboid shape and a few more snips to make a crystal shape?
I've done this in the past. Clip out a good shape then use a file or a blade to clean up each face of the crystal and make them nice and smooth.

You can also carve crystals out of sprue.

Hey that happened to me once! I had a large amount of super glue and cork on a base and some dripped off! It burnt a hole right through my pants!
