Ayala-a breath of fresh air on the Iowa squad. No drama, no posturing, just wrestling. He wore down Smith as well-so good motor.
Ayala is getting more quality mat time. His improvement is showing

You would think the Big 10 would have better refs. And mic’d up 🙄. “Stay in the center?” Non-stop. You start in the center then the mat is field of play. Would a ref tell football “keep the plays in the center”? Ridiculous
This referee needs to be addressed by the ncaa. He talks way too much and needs to let the kids wrestle. At 1:12 you can hear him repeating "center of the mat" when their feet are almost touching the white of the inner circle. The wrestlers are not required to wrestle in the very center of the mat, they just need to stay inside of it and not back up too much. This ref needs to back the f off. Let them wrestle and stop being a distraction. No one goes to the wrestling match to watch referees. This guy likes the attention too much. Please fix this ncaa
Furthermore, it is not the job of the aggressor to center. Only the wrestler who is consistently backing up should be warned to center. There is absolutely nothing wrong with moving forward into your opponent, even if you bump him out of bounds, its his fault if he's backing away. This referee literally does not understand this concept, and instead, he constantly warns both wrestlers to center all throughout the match. Usually only 1 person is stalling and sometimes neither person is. This ref needs to stop talking. That was atrocious reffing. What a clown
The Reffing was really bad. Drake shots and takes Smith down right by the out of bounds. Rides him from a few second, there's a scramble and Smith excapes, charges into Drake and they go out and he hits Drake for stalling. Pathetic reffing the entire dual.
That was just plain dumb. 😳 You just gave up 6 points on takedowns and you're gonna give him another free point so you can roll the dice on takedowns???
