I can’t believe no one mentioned the 2004-2008 Acura TSX. Those cars came with the K24 & 6 speed transmission. Remind me if I am wrong didn’t spoon & mugen race with them?

Transmission kills it. Only auto. Can't bang off rev limiter. I like that car. But it really needed a manual option.

@@godzilla_area5111 sure. But that platform isn't as stout. Low HP. Heavy. Some engine issues in the 4-banger that the V6 doesn't have. The newest IS's are pretty capable now (transmission let's you hold gears with an LSD option). But those are a long way off from being cheap track options. Lexus needed to make this current IS ten years ago.

You can do a blown motor RX-8 and swap in the GM V-6 (LFX I think?) for less than $10k, plenty of cheap low km ones in the junkyard in wrecks and if you do the work yourself. They have kits now which make it an easy enough swap for the price.

Acura RSX type S it’s literally the most well rounded car for under 10k to be a track car. Has tons of space to haul your stuff to the track and Hondas reliability.

C4 Vettes had a ZF 6 speed, 97' C5 was the first Vette to get the t56. LT1 F-bodys got the the t56 in '93 good old fucking gm lol. That being said, '98-02 4th gen F-body's with an LS1/T56 can be had sub $10k easy are a ton of car with good aftermarket and oem support. Personally I have a t56/Ls1 swapped 3rd gen Camaro but that's because I'm a dirtball 24 hours of lemons racer and had to do it on a budget.

Also under 5,000 a vw based rail buggy. Is it going to be the best suspension wise? No. But it would be interesting. Even stock vws can go 60-70 all day and maybe 80-90 in a pinch, I wouldn't take it to road Atlanta, but a short track would be really good. VIR comes to mind.

Y’all are sleeping on the second gen forester XT, for 5-6k you get basically a WRX with a bit more space than most likely hasn’t been ruined by some idiot kid and his vape pen

These are generally terrible choices. If you're going to a track you want light, less weight means less cost of consumables. Some of these monsters they're suggesting here would absolutely tear through tyres and brakes. Some of these choices are just dreadful. Get an MX5 (sorry, Miata) or an MR2, or pretty much any Fast honda. These guys have basically spent a whole video looking for the least dynamic, poorest handling, heaviest cars they could find to put round a track. It's almost like they've never actually been to one!
