Never seen a hole dug for a water service that dry. Maybe it’s because Michigan is a swamp and my water mine is always 10 feet deep.

It IS a really ingenious system, almost like a magic trick! However I think that these single-strap connections are VERY vulnerable to any sideways aimed force. And as the whole line is supposed to be covered with dirt again after completion, and it is very likely there will be riding cars and trucks over that line, it is quite likely such forces will come into play. By the way, that's why such lines must be laid quite deep when they run underneath roads.

Manual tap without a drill or hole hog?
    Like a boss 😎
    Good job!

Polybutylene requires that specific tool they’re using. You’re not suppose to use a drill or anything on that specific type of pipe

I'd be worried about a water main that is only rated for 150 psi.

agreed, I would never use anything less than DR 18, this is just scary lol

In the UK our low pressure water mains only have 3-4bar which is about 75psi so 150 is more than enough.

What stops the water from leaking out the edges of that valve strapped to the mains pipe? Is there a sealant or glue involved?

There is an o-ring or gasket between the saddle and the pipe.

Awesome man! That line had pressure on it right, or did you get permission to cut the supply for a little bit? Also what do y’all do when you tie into ductal?

I always understood the definition of "hot tap" being that the line is under pressure when it's tapped. Also the video description says the main is "live", meaning it is currently pressurized while being tapped.

Yes that main is live which is what a hot tap is. It’s not very hard but things can go very very wrong lol. Especially if your pipe is in a bind.

Good job 👏.. I tap my mains in 30 seconds average.. 25s every now and then.. tapping tool looks a lot different but same mechanics didn’t test the chlorine 🤷🏽‍♂️
