    How to select the best sewing pattern size for your body size and shape
    Hi Everyone and Welcome Back To My Bucolic Life Channel. Meet my new sewing tutorial.
    A fairly quick video explaining the theory of using front bust measurement to choose pattern size. A little different than the average method but I have used it for many years and it gives a good result.
    Thanks for watching!

    I just love listening and watching your videos when I wake the early morning to sew. I'm so glad some else follows Nancy zieman. I totally discovered her small shoulder adjustment that has been a game changer for me. I don't think I have that pattern but really excited to see it made up. And I'm stopping at Joann's for other stuff today, I think they are on sale. Yes, the video was helpful, that's for the effort. Happy Sewing and can't wait to see the dress pattern made up.

    Good Day, Marie. This video is awesome and packed with information. I miss Nancy Zieman and always watched her shows and those books are very helpful. Thank you for sharing. I smiled when seeing this video pop up because, I too, have grown body-wise. Oh well😂. I made the top in this pattern and absolutely love it. Can’t wait to see your make.

    It is amazing just how complicated fitting SEEMS, but once you explain it, it seems so obvious. You are such a good instructor. It helps soooooo much that you continue to explain things over and over, my brain needs to hear it a bunch of times before it goes, "oh yeah, of course it works like that!"

    Thank you for sharing this technique, because I did find it very helpful and got some confirmation about which shirt size I should be picking. I'll need to check out the books, because I'm wondering about pants, too!

    Beautiful cat, remained me of our fluffy, a cayote took her one night, she was outside and she never came back at night we heard a cayote singing (I called it singing) never herd if she was there but she never came back. My son was deeply upset, we still missed her, beautiful fluff. Now, this is the video I been waiting for, for a long time thanks, very well explained, now I now I been buying the wrong size pattern Have to get the right ones now or try to fix the ones I have. Now apparently have to find out how on earth I come to be a size 14, (according to this method) when I thought I was size 20( ready to wear), I buy size 20, always fits on my hips but not on the top, is always so big and buggy, and do not know how to fix this problem. I need to make my own clothes now. Thanks from the bottom of my heart.
    Now my question is How I go from a size 14 top to a size 24 bottom? (according to sizes on the pattern envelope)?

    • @mybucoliclife
      @mybucoliclife  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The sizing puzzle is really perplexing sometimes. I hope that you can add the additional ease into the hip area by taking the number of seams in the garment in that area, and taking the number of inches you need to add to that area, and dividing it out so that each seam is increased the same amount. I hope that helps because in general that's how I do it but of course it depends on the style of garment.

    Thanks! I’d learned Nancy’s technique in the 70s but let myself slip. I’m getting back on target. I’m a 12 above bust but 16 at bust and 18 at the hip. A real pear. I needed this.

    I appreciate this tutorial as I have a complicated body type. I am always thinking where do I begin lol. I know from experience to shorten length of sleeves and the body but never get the neckline and shoulders right. I’ve heard of this technique but not how it worked. I certainly appreciate your channel and have improved on my garment sewing. Will you be doing more work on knit fabric?

    I had forgotten Nancy's Book Which I got as a wedding present in PDF form...but I made the measurement and now know I am a Women's size 46 according to her chart. It is nice to have a target range for sure I know slopers or ready-to-sew patterns I will have to do the Normal adjustments but a Bodice closer to my best size is a great time saver and pocketbook saver no more buy-it-and-see or buy another cause!! Thank you, Marie!

    so if you need an extra 2" or 1" for the front pieces, are you adding that on by using the size 18 lines or you are using the 18 lines and then going to add those inches on? what if i'm a size 8 based on the front measurement, but my bust needs the size 14, is that where i cut out the size 8 pattern and then what? do i do a large bust adjustment?

    • @mybucoliclife
      @mybucoliclife  2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Technically for a fitted garment I would use a size 8 with a large bust adjustment in that case, but every body is different. This is just a guide for a place to start.

    Very informative and well explained Marie. My question is why did you measure down 2 inches from the patterns hip line when you were working out what the hip measurement was? I might need to watch that part again to see if you said why. I really like to see these sorts of techique tutorials, I thankyou for that and it would be so good to see more in the future.

    • @mybucoliclife
      @mybucoliclife  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I don't remember measuring 2 in I might have but I don't remember. Usually I measure 9 in down from the waistline. I'm wondering if the cutting line for the blouse version is what you were looking at? I would have to rewatch it to see

    You explained very clear❤ Hope to see more videos in how to manage patterns. Indeed a must see. In my case more important and a challenge because I'm a curvy and big size 30 and in general is difficult to find patterns for my figure. But this class help a lot to understand basics of fitting patterns. Thank you.

    I’m confushed if you can help, my across front is 14 but my bust is 43 waist is 45 hip is 46 and size 16 is way of what do I do then please help ?

    • @mybucoliclife
      @mybucoliclife  ปีที่แล้ว

      Hmm. It sounds like you have a smaller shoulder frame but then you are a rectangle shape pretty much from your bust to your hips, right?
      This is tricky, but I would start cutting out the shoulders and top of the armhole area in the size 14, then ease the cutting to a size 18 under the armhole. From there just go straight down to the hips without curving into a fitted waist. Maybe try it on a simple dress and see how that works before going to a trickier one. Good luck.

    • @ExoticTS
      @ExoticTS ปีที่แล้ว

      @@mybucoliclife yes, 15.5 shoulder width, 43 bust 45 waist 46 inch waist ,so is the rule of thumb to pick the pattern size from how much you measure from across front measurement so the fit is fine on top and then increase rest of lower measurments
