That’s good advice on the belt swap! I’m going to start doing that now. I had been keeping a log and swapping every 50 hours or so; but doing it every blade change makes much more sense. Kind of like flipping the chainsaw bar every time you sharpen the chain. Thanks!!

I've seen a couple guys with these type sawmills under or in a building like yours and they have hung a 5 gallon bucket on the chute that discharges the sawdust to catch it so it doesn't make a mess. Have you ever thought about doing that? You could just empty after each log or ever how often the bucket is full into the dump trailer and you wouldn't have the mess to clean up off the floor. Wanted to tell you about this incase you've not thought about it before. 👍

Evaporust works really good to take rust off. I watch a channel that restores old tools and he's got a plastic 55 gallon drum of the stuff he submerges parts in for a period of time ,12 hours I think or overnight; to clean them when they have sever rust and it will take it off. That's when they are bad, bad rusty but just dunks them for a short period if they are cleaned off like what you did with the anvil and it cleans the rust off good.

I just started watching your videos not so long ago. You have an easy going, welcoming manner about you. I would note however, I believe most people call the rubber around the band-saw wheels, the tires. It's a minor distinction, but some may get confused. Keep putting out those great videos. Nathan, I have to tell you a story of a good friend who was a machinest for 30 years working with on a lathe in a tool and die shop. When turning metal, there is a constant stream of coolant over the high-speed spindle. It's pretty common, right? Well, after 30 years, the doctor told him his lungs were full of liquid. Aka the coolant. Please make sure there's a constant air flow away from you when operating the mill.

Take some old towels soaked with white vinegar and wrap around your anvil then wrap it all tightly with plastic. The vinegar will convert the red rust to black oxide which will be a protective coating from future rust.

    Out of curiosity -
When making the first two top and side cuts, I notice you may or may not raise one end to keep the center level despite any swells on one end.
I'd suspect these two cuts would level the log to maximize the output of boards. Is this the case or does it not matter?

Nathan, the mixture you spray on logs with ants. Can it be sprayed on living trees. My daughter and son in law have probably 30 pecan trees in their yard and one blew down yesterday in a storm. On looking at it, there is ants all over it. And looking at other ones there are ants on them as well. Was wondering if you can spray that on standing trees as well as logs. Thank you for running a great channel, keep up the fantastic work.

I'm just curious...you call them belts, but it looks like their primary function is more like a tire.
I have zero experience with these machines, so I defer to the experts, but it just seems their function is to provide cushioning so the blade doesn't ride purely on metal, and added friction since rubber is a lot more grippy than metal.
So I'm wondering if the manual literally refers to them as belts? And if so, why do you think that is?
