I work at Google. I agree with all that has been said in this video, but I would like to add. Make sure you like the people and the company you work for. Once you are satisfied with that, then all the things mentioned in the video will either come effortlessly to you or you won't mind making the effort to follow these pointers in order to help your team and ultimately the company.

I agree with the tips in the video. In my work I automated a repetitive process that at least consumed 6-10 hours every week. The problem was I don't measure the impact for my automation and don't show the impact to the company, only was a personal goal. Thank you for the advices.

Every single point here all depends on the type of company and the culture. As positive as the points in this video sounds if you attempt any of them at a bad company you will get mentally abused and shown the exit by incompetent managers with all the power at that company. You’d get excluded from projects, valuable information and even labeled as difficult to work with.
If you find yourself in such a company play the long game where you do enough to get paid and find another job and if that new job is a company that strives to create a good work environment then all the points mentioned in this video will help.

What if there's no cross-organizational projects available. Even the VP isn't doing cross-organizational projects. Time to do a start up.

What about the idea that getting promoted does not mean you're great , it just means you can handle more work? When money is not the sole motivator what is great about getting more work?

Very insightful video! I'm currently doing a 1 year internship and have been told that my manager will discuss with me about writing a personal development plan for the internship. As I'm still at university and this is my first swe role what would be good things to work aka goals for my internship?

Find an improvement and get buy in. Don't assume your coworkers know what they are doing. Posh back on the product manager if their story is unclear or it has a unnecessary requirement. Chat about fun things to bond with you coworkers. And be confident.

Thank you for this video. I work in FAANG and listening to you has been very helpful. Could you please make a video on what things we should consider when selecting a team?

Don't really know where this ideia that you cannot stay in a given position for a long period. You might be happy, maybe it makes sense to you not moving up because you have personal things that are more important (like a kid). In any case, I think this needs to change. This is a corporate excuse to squeeze everything from you.

It’s usually driven by the compensation inequalities that staying in position can cause. For example, if you stay happy in the same position and keep getting raises and bonuses for a decade, you comp in that level will be significantly larger than anyone else in the band. It’s much easier to maintain and move people along various bands to keep a decent comp range.

@@EngineeringwithUtsavso the employer doesn't want you grow in the same position, when you grow things get easier. They rather push you out of the company when you cannot move up or up in the ranks if you still have some juice. Pretty awful if you ask me. We must push back these things instead of saying that is fine. This mentally needs to change. Just my opinion
